Ik had toch even 2 seconden storing  ;D

Spain unveils the 105mm Ascod light tank with Elbit turret

PARIS  — A version of the light tank will be presented by General Dynamics European Land Systems, through the acquired Spanish company Santa Bárbara Sistemas [SBS] during the upcoming exhibition in Paris Eurosatory 2022, which takes place this year and this year is from 13 to 17 June. The tank is called Ascod LT [LT is an acronym for a light tank] but is more popular as Pizarro [Pizarro is the Spanish version, Ascod is the export version].

Ascod LT can be seen on the stand of the Israeli company Elbit Systems, like the turret, weapon system, 105mm gun, and various subsystems to the turret are manufactured and integrated by the Israeli company.

Ascod is actually a platform for an armored vehicle. Austrian Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG and Spanish General Dynamics Santa Bárbara Sistemas are involved in its creation. The platform is already entering service in various countries. In Spain, 261 105mm Ascod LT units have been ordered, in the UK the Ascod platform is participating in the Ajax project, and in Austria, it is participating with an order of 12 units, but under the name Ulan. Ascod is used to build armored vehicles, such as light tanks, surface-to-air missile [SAM] launchers, anti-tank missile launchers, mortar carriers, R&R vehicles, command & control vehicles, ambulances, artillery observers, and the AIFV model.

Ascod is gradually breaking the competition in international markets. Apart from Spain, Austria, and the United Kingdom, the Philippines is the other country to have a light tank built on Ascod's customer configuration. The United States and the Czech Republic are potential customers: in the United States, Ascod is competing for a new light tank for the US Army, while in the Czech Republic it is being offered as an amphibious infantry fighting vehicle to replace the obsolete Soviet BMP-2s.

Specifically for the light Spanish tank, which will be shown in Paris, it will be presented with a 105mm cannon, but the turret allows the integration of a 120mm cannon, too. In addition to the Elbit Systems turret, this tank allows the integration of several different turrets from different manufacturers, such as Oto Melara, Cockerill, General Dynamics, and Denel Land Systems.

The Ascod armor is made of rolled steel armor options for explosive reactive armor and composite armor. It is powered by a diesel engine, which according to the chosen configuration and purpose can provide from 600 to 720 horsepower. The suspension is a torsion bar and Piedrafita rotary dampers models AR01 and AR02. Different engines provide different top speeds, but the average is up to 72 km / h.

In addition to the 105mm gun, the turret of the Ascod LT can be equipped with additional weapons such as MG3 7.62 × 51mm NATO [Pizarro] or FN MAG 7.62 × 51mm NATO.

Ik had dezelfde vragen rondom dit onderwerp, las onderstaand artikel hoe men het apparaat wil inzetten, tijd terug.

https://www.ausa.org/publications/mobile-protected-firepower-opportunity

Hoeft niet sexy te zijn, maar moet gewoon werken met .50, 7,62 en 105mm. 105mm was een eis en men ontwikkelt daar specifieke munitie voor. (info via twitter Ron Kainnen). Add-on bepantsering flexibel 25-40 Ton, moeten er 2 in een C17 passen.

105mm is echt uitintwikkeld.

US Army to receive intial production of 24 Mobile Protected Firepower Vehicles in Q1 of 2024

Following the announcement of the U.S. Army on June 29, 2022, that General Dynamics Land Systems was selected to provide its Mobile Protected Firepower (MPF), initial production of 24 MPFs will be delivered to the U.S. Army in the first quarter of 2024 as part of the $1.14bn contract to supply 96 vehicles.

.../...

The MPF is a 38-ton tracked armored vehicle capable to provide soldiers with speed, protection, lethality and the ability to wage a multi-domain battle, working in concert with other ground forces to overwhelm the enemy with multiple simultaneous challenges. It is based on a light tank conventional layout with the driver and engine at the front, and the turret located at the rear of the hull. The turret has a crew of three including a commander, gunner, and loader.

The turret architecture of the General Dynamics MPF is based on the M1 Abrams tank using the M1A2 Sep V3 fire control system and CITV (Commander's Independent Thermal Viewer) armed with one 105 mm cannon. One 12.7mm heavy machine gun is mounted on the commander hatch.

The General Dynamics MPF is based on a tracked chassis with six road wheels, with the drive sprocket at the front and the idler at the rear. It is motorized with a Diesel engine. The turbine solution used on the Abrams MBT hasn't been retained.

The US Army has selected General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) to supply 96 vehicles under a $1.14 billion contract for the Mobile Protected Firepower (MPF) programme. The award was announced on 28 June, and deliveries for the first phase of low-rate initial production (LRIP) are scheduled for Q4 2023.

Speaking to Shephard, an official spokesperson for GDLS noted that the MPF is an innovative, purpose-built vehicle designed to meet US Army requirements.

It will support infantry brigade combat teams (IBCT), which are intended to be lighter and easier to deploy around the world.

The Army Just Selected Its First Light Tank In Decades

The light tanks, known as as Mobile Protected Firepower Vehicles, will provide armored fire support for light infantry.

or the first time since the Cold War, the U.S. Army is set to acquire and field a new light tank. The service announced today that General Dynamics Land Systems has won its Mobile Protected Firepower program competition and has been awarded a contract worth up to $1.14 billion.

The initial Mobile Protected Firepower (MPF) contract award will cover an initial low-rate production order of 96 vehicles. The Army expects to take delivery of the first examples, from an initial lot of 26 MPFs, in December 2023 and have its first unit fully equipped with them by 2025. The service presently plans to buy a total of 504 new light tanks, with most of them arriving by the end of 2035. It's not immediately clear if this figure includes any of the preproduction examples that General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) already supplied for testing.
