Navantia?s S-81 ?Isaac Peral? Submarine Successfully Performs Its First Dive Tests

Navantia?s S-81 submarine 'Isaac Peral' made its first dive tests yesterday, as part of the test schedule agreed upon between Navantia, the Spanish Navy, and the Spanish Ministry of Defence.

This is the static dive which has allowed the submarine?s displacement to be verified, the transverse and longitudinal stability to be determined and the resulting draughts.

The test was carried out in the waters of the La Algameca naval station, opposite the Navy?s Diving Centre. It forms part of the safety milestones in the construction and testing of the S-80 submarine programme and is carried out after surface navigation and prior to submerged navigations.

The test, which lasted eight hours, was divided into three phases. During the first and last phases, the draughts were measured at Navantia?s armament dock, while the central phase took place in the open sea, close to the 50-metre buoy located in front of the Navy?s Diving Centre in La Algameca. Once the location was reached, the displacement, transverse stability and longitudinal stability measurement tests were carried out. Tests on the Isaac Peral S-81 submarine will continue until it is delivered to the Navy.

?With its first static dive, the S-81 has passed a key milestone on the way to its full operational capability. The close collaboration between Navantia, the Navy and the Ministry of Defence is making it possible to make steady progress in the greatest challenge ever faced by Spanish industry. The first dive we have witnessed today is the result of the efforts of many professionals, so I would like to thank all the people involved in the programme for their dedication and commitment to ensure its success and congratulate them on this important step.?

Australische media noemden het, met recht, de grootste aankondiging in de Australische defensiegeschiedenis. Maandagavond (Nederlandse tijd) maakten de Amerikaanse prosident Joe Biden, Australische premier Anthony Albanese en de Britse premier Rishi Sunak de details van het Australisch-Brits-Amerikaanse onderzeebootprogramma AUKUS bekend. Vanaf de jaren veertig zullen de Britse en Australische marines met deze boten gaan varen.

Vanavond belangrijke AUKUS-aankondiging, UK verhoogt budgetten alvast

Vanuit San Diego, VS, zullen vanavond (Nederlandse tijd) de Amerikaanse president Biden, de Britse prime-minister Sunak en de Australische premier een gezamenlijke aankondiging doen over onderzeebootprogramma AUKUS. Zo'n anderhalf jaar na de start van AUKUS, worden de plannen concreter. Het Verenigd Koninkrijk gaat de budgetten voor de eigen onderzeeboten en AUKUS flink verhogen.

De Amerikaanse boten die nu van de stapel komen zijn al in 2014 besteld. Dat betekent een levertermijn van 12 jaar.

Het schijnt dat de Noorse marine naast de 4 Type 212CD's nog een optie heeft voor 4 extra boten.

Interessant en 6 zijn goed verdedigbaar.

Voor NL zou ik willen pleiten, los van de pax uitdaging, voor een 6-slag van de aanstaande fregatten, onderzeeboten en LPX-en, al zal dat er vermoedelijk niet inzitten.

De bron van deze twitter draad is de Noorse defensie website forsvaretsforum.no met HIER de link naar het artikel. In het artikel gaat men in op de vraag of 4 boten voldoende is, maar het antwoord is simpel : Nee. De Noren zouden minimaal 5 boten moeten hebben, en met 6 boten kan men er altijd 2 paraat hebben, ideaal gezien willen ze 8 boten. De bouw start in Oktober van dit jaar met de 1e Noorse boot van de Type 212CD klasse, de optie voor extra boten moet uiterlijk in het najaar van 2024 ingediend worden.

The CDR concludes an exciting design route representing the formal assessment of the system?s final design as outlined in product specifications for each Configuration Items.

Further to intensive, challenging yet collaborative activities, the CDR has demonstrated that the design is mature and fully compliant to mission performance requirements. The system can now proceed with the manufacturing, system installation, integration and trial test phase.

Given the extremely harsh underwater environment and latest quieting technology advancements in the field, a key output of the CDR focused towards the definition of safety, maintainability and reliability of the Programme. According to OCCAR rules and high technological underwater military standards, these features have been fully addressed whilst considering budget, schedule and risk constraints.

The CDR has been achieved through joint and cooperative efforts by all stakeholders; namely, OCCAR-EA U212 NFS Programme Division, Italian Navy Submarine experts and industrial partners led by FINCANTIERI, to include small and medium-sized enterprises.

About U212 NFS



The U212 NFS is for the Italian Navy. Its design is driven by the requirements to improve endurance, operational flexibility, and capabilities. Thanks to the new combat system, sensors, and planned weapon systems, namely the long-range deep strike cruise missiles, the U212NFS will play a key role from beneath the surface, in the multi-domain and joint-multinational operational scenarios.

Based on an evolved U212A design by Fincantieri, the U212 NFS is characterized by a 1.2 meters longer pressure hull and a hydrodynamically enhanced and further quieter platform with an overall length of approximately 59 meters and a surface displacement of approximately 1,600 tons.

The new platform features a new design sail capable to accommodate up to seven electric masts (with space for an additional optional mast), allowing for future development in the direction of a full electric submarine. Moreover, human factor studies are ongoing to provide more comfortable accommodations for new generation crew members.

The U212 NFS will also include a new-generation combat system with a Leonardo-developed command management system and weapon control, both including significant industrial and technological content provided by Italian industry, R&D, and academia. The new platform will have an extended pressure hull, CIC re-designed for additional consoles, tropicalization (operability in seawater with tropical temperatures), electric hoistable masts instead of hydraulic ones, new engineering control monitoring system, and lithium-ion batteries for the propulsion system. Moreover, U212 NFS will be fitted for the deployment of long-range deep-strike cruise missiles and Leonardo national Black Shark Advanced heavyweight torpedoes. These innovative systems will also be tailored with a view to retrofitting previous units.

Ik denk eerder dat men de Type 218SG als basis gebruikt en daar dan een 218IN van ontwikkeld.

Ook dat is een optie, en wellicht financieel aantrekkelijker dan op te draaien voor de ontwikkelingskosten van de U-212CDE

Precies, daarom ben ik ook benieuwd... wordt de NG sub een doorontwikkeling van bestaand model of compleet nieuw ?
De doorontwikkelde en aangepaste versie voor NL van de 212CD door Duitsland, wordt deze ook aangeboden aan India bijboorbeeld ?

De U-212CDE  zou natuurlijk een optie kunnen zijn, al is dit (nu nog) niet meer dan een schets.
