De Italianen hebben ooit (1988) een prototype CIWS ontwikkeld genaamd de ''Myriad'' op basis van 2 25 mm Gatlinguns ontwikkeld door Oerlikon. Het is zonde dat Signaal en/of Thales de Goalkeeper nooit heeft door ontwikkeld, bijvoorbeeld een variant met in het midden een SEARAM lanceer inrichting (11 schots) + 2 kanons (Gau-8 of een ander kanon).

According to information published by the Russian press agency TASS on October 29, 2020, the latest Pantsir-M air defense missile system onboard the Odintsovo corvette of project 22800 successfully repelled a massive air and cruise missile strike. It downed all targets at various distances. Experts believe the launchers will make Russian warships a difficult target for airstrikes, the Izvestia daily writes.

Pantsir-M test-fired in mid-October 2020. The Defense Ministry said M-6 small aircraft targets were launched by Su-27 jets of the Baltic fleet. Russian Defense Ministry and industry sources said the trials were successful. The targets imitated a massive air raid and strikes at the Odintsovo with anti-ship cruise missiles.

Pantsir-M successfully destroyed the targets at a major distance and downed the remaining targets by gunfire close to the warship. The analysis showed that the launcher fully coped with the mission.

The Odintsovo is the third Karakurt-class corvette of project 22800. Pantsir-M is the main difference from predecessors. In future, all corvettes will be armed with the launcher, although there were doubts about whether the small warship could carry such a sophisticated weapon.

"Sea operation has to take numerous factors into account, such as a rough sea. It demands different equipment. Successful live-fire opens a way to batch production of Pantsir-M. The Odintsovo is the first warship to be armed with it," expert Dmitry Boltenkov said. Pantsir-M will make Russian warships practically invulnerable to airstrikes, he added.

The Odintsovo is to operate in the 1st battalion of the 36th brigade of missile boats of the Baltic fleet based in Baltiisk in Kaliningrad region. The Mytischi and the Sovetsk first corvettes already operate there.

Pantsir-M comprises eight launchers with guided antiaircraft missiles and two six-barrel 30mm speed guns. It can down cruise and anti-ship missiles, drones, airplanes and helicopters. The weapon operates by two-line air defense principle capable of protecting the warship from any airstrike. Antiaircraft missiles are the first to attack the adversary at a distance of 20 km. The remaining targets are attacked by 30mm speed guns at a distance of 4 km. The guns can fire armor-piercing and fragmentation projectiles at a speed of ten thousand shots per minute.

Pantsir-M can destroy sea and coastal targets. It can repel an attack of small warships or boats in the destruction range of its missiles and guns.

The ground Pantsir properly operated in Syria. The first launchers were deployed at Humaymim airbase in 2015. The Defense Ministry said they downed 54 MLRS missiles and 16 terrorist drones in two years.

Project 22800 corvettes have a displacement of 800 tons and carry Kalibr missiles and 76.2mm AK-176MA gun.

The Odintsovo was on Arctic trials from early August to late September 2020. It was previously unknown whether the small corvettes can operate in bitter cold and bad weather. The Odintsovo fulfilled all missions in the Barents and the White Seas in the two-month sortie, fired missiles and returned to the Baltic Sea by internal waterways, the Izvestia said.

Sovraponte gekoppeld aan Pharos is één van de kandidaten. Maar ik denk niet dat het systeem z'n eigen onafhankelijke radars gaat krijgen.

Maar goed de Pharos kan eventueel gekoppeld worden aan alle kandidaten als deze maar voldoen aan de eisen van de Pharos 30 tot 76 mm. Daarnaast moet er voor het wapen systeem ook nog geleide munitie bestaan en die ontwikkelingen zijn bij 76 mm veel verder dan bij andere kleinere kalibers.

Zou het een mogelijkheid zijn als Thales Nederland (en/of andere BV NL bedrijven) een ''goalkeeper 2.0'' gaan ontwikkelen?

Als ik het zo hoor is een van de belangrijkste dingen voor een nieuw kanon niet het zeer hoge aantal patronen per minuut maar juist de geleide munitie i.c.m. airburst?

Eigenlijk zou het niet zo ingewikkeld moeten zijn ;
- Een operationeel kanon waarvan de vuursnelheid en de munitie aan de eisen voldoet
- Een nieuw set vuurleiding (op basis van bv. Pharos?)

Of denk ik hier te simpel?

De oude GK is inderdaad beter, maar niet meer in productie! Dus Phalanx en RAM erop, als interim oplossing ik zie op korte termijn geen alternatief!

Ja, sorry, maar op een CIWS moet je niet te zuinig (willen) zijn m.i.. Dus dat de Phalanx relatief niet zo duur is vind ik eigenlijk niet zo heel interessant.

Als het het beste systeem is, prima. Maar ik vraag me echt af of dat het geval is.

Voorts nogmaals de vraag:
Hoeveel schoten kan zo'n Sovraponte na het eerste schot nog lossen op een hypersonische raket? Of is het nog maar 1 schot? Geen schot? Zelfde voor die andere systemen v.w.b. salvo's?

In principe kun je elk kanon z'n eigen vuurleiding geven maar wie gaat er betalen voor die ontwikkelings en integratie kosten?

Idealiter wil je met lagen werken dus ESSM+76mm+RAM+Goalkeeper/laser/Milennium

Als we dan toch ontwikkelings en integratiekosten moeten betalen om een systeem aan onze wensen te laten voldoen, dan ben ik een voorstander van het in eigen hand houden en het geheel vernieuwen van de Goalkeepers naar versie NG 2.0 in samenwerking met Thales Hengelo. Een nieuw project ; Ajax II.
Als basis zouden dan er (voor mij) 2 opties zijn :
1) 30mm, hetzelfde kaliber en kanon als de huidige Goalkeepers, de GAU-8/A
2) 35mm, millennium kanon van Rheinmetall en eventueel in samenwerking met Rheinmetall

Het kanon dat in de Goalkeeper zit, is toch dezelfde/ variant van het kanon van een A-10 Thunderbolt? De Amerikanen blijven door ook nog even mee vliegen, en er zullen wel legio van die dingen in de Mojave woestijn staan.

Als een leek op dit gebied; kunnen daar geen reserve onderdelen vandaan worden gehaald?
En zijn de Amerikanen niet bezig met een opvolger van dit kanon?

Dat is inderdaad de GAU-8 en daarom ook mijn vraag of GD-OTS nog steeds leverancier is of dat USAF/ANG afhankelijk is van de eigen voorraad onderdelen.

Het is onbekend of USAF een opvolger voor de GAU-8 wil en ook aan de kant van GD-OTS is het stil.
