Dutch shipbuilder Damen recently hosted a keel-laying ceremony for the first of two Pakistan Navy offshore patrol vessels at its shipyard in Galati, Romania.

The ceremony was attended by Pakistan Navy Rear Admiral Farrokh Ahmad, Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff (Projects), other navy officials and Damen representatives.

Pakistan and Damen signed a contract for the construction of two OPVs in June 2017.

Contrary to earlier announcements which said Pakistani shipbuilder Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works Ltd. would be involved in OPV construction, both vessels will be built in Romania.

The OPVs built for Pakistan will have a displacement of around 1900 tons and an overall length of 90 meters. Pakistan Navy OPV specifications do not precisely match those found on OPV models offered by Damen. The Dutch company's official offering includes the larger OPV 2400 and a slightly smaller OPV 1800.

According to photos shared by the Pakistan Navy, offshore patrol vessels built for Pakistan are designated as OPV 1900. The vessels will be suited for anti surface, anti air operations, maritime security operations (MSO), day & night helicopter operations, combat search and rescue (CSAR) and surveillance and intelligence gathering.

Apart dat het geen sigma is, heeft ongeveer dezelfde grote en gewicht.

Vliegbasis Leeuwarden ontvangt Europese UAV-simulator



Het 306 squadron op Vliegbasis Leeuwarden ontving afgelopen week een Europese simulator voor Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, onbemande vliegtuigen.
Deze simulator maakt deel uit van een project van het Europees Defensieagentschap (EDA) en is onderdeel van een netwerk van trainingssimulatoren voor onbemande vliegtuigen.
Deelnemende landen kunnen hiermee direct informatie en ervaringen met elkaar delen. Het 306 Squadron is momenteel in oprichting op Vliegbasis Leeuwarden en gaat in de toekomst met de MQ-9 Reaper opereren.

Realistische scenarios
Begin 2016 spraken de EDA en de European Air Group (EAG) af om de samenwerking op trainingsgebied te vergroten. EDA nam het verbeteren van de onderlinge communicatie en gezamenlijke oefeningen voor zijn rekening. Dit gebeurde met de EAG dat zich toelegde op het daadwerkelijk koppelen van de simulatoren in de verschillende landen. Ook werden er realistische operationele scenarios ontwikkeld. De zogenoemde MALE RPAS-gemeenschap (medium altitude long endurance, remotely piloted aircraft system) bestaat uit Duitsland, Frankrijk, Griekenland, Italië, Nederland, Polen en Spanje. België en Groot-Brittannië hebben zich voor deze gelegenheid ook bij het collectief aangesloten en brengen het aantal op 9 gekoppelde trainingssystemen.

Samenwerking
Naast het netwerk van 9 proceduretrainers hebben de deelnemers afspraken gemaakt over het delen van informatie over onderhoud, logistiek, trainingen en concepten en procedures. Zo is onder andere studiemateriaal van de verschillende Europese opleidingsscholen gelijkgeschakeld.

Senegal orders Thales air surveillance radars

Senegal has ordered an unspecified number of Ground Master 400 long-range air surveillance radars, Thales announced on 19 April.

The company said the West African country will receive its radars in 2019 and they will be connected to its SkyView command-and-control system set up at Ouakam Air Base in Dakar. "The Senegalese armed forces are to deploy a state-of-the-art airspace surveillance and control capability," it said.

A second Thales press release announced that the Senegalese Air Force would use its helicopter mission trainer to train its Mi-35 and Mi-17 pilots.

"Mexican Navy long-range OPV getting Indra's RIGEL electronic defense system"

Dutch shipbuilder Damen has contracted Spanish defense technology company Indra to equip the Mexican Navy's new long-range offshore patrol vessel (POLA) with its RIGEL electronic defense system.

The system will allow the vessel, which is currently under construction, to detect the presence of other platforms.

Indra's system detects and analyzes radar signals in the vessel's mission environment, identifying their corresponding radar type, which is useful for ascertaining the platform type and its level of threat. The system provides command officials with information on the environment, alerting them of the risk of being detected by another vessel, aircraft or coastal radar.

According to Indra, the RIGEL system can additionally strengthen ship protection with simultaneous jamming and deception countermeasures for multiple active threats.

The long-range patrol vessel Damen is building for Mexico is based on the company's SIGMA 10514 design. The vessel is scheduled to be delivered to the Mexican Navy in early 2020. It will be used by the navy in international exercises, humanitarian missions and territorial water protection.

Waarschijnlijk bedoeld hij de opbouw, die is vrij smal en hoog, en er zit ook nog eens een hangaar in. Er zal niet veel ruimte voor de bemanning zijn als ik het zo bekijk.
Het schip is trouwens ontworpen door het Turkse STM maar lokaal geproduceerd in Pakistan. Er zou ook ruimte zijn voor een phalanx op de boeg en boven op de hangaar.

Niet 100% Nederlands maar wel de vervanger van een 100% Nederlands schip, onze ex-poolster is na nog eens 24 jaar dienst bij de Pakistaanse marine ook daar vervangen door een nieuwe tanker. Toch al een oude dame met 54 jaar trouwe dienst bij 2 marines.

Pakistan Navy's new fleet tanker completes first sea trials



A new fleet tanker on order for the Pakistan Navy has completed its first sea trials.

The 158 m vessel sailed towards the Indian Ocean from the Port of Karachi under its own power in late-March 2018 as part of the trials, and the ship is undergoing further tests to validate its performance parameters ahead of an expected delivery in 2018.

Keel for the tanker was laid down in March 2014 and the platform was subsequently launched by Pakistan's state-owned company, Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works (KSEW), in August 2016.

The project is a collaboration between the Pakistani Ministry of Defence Production, which has appointed KSEW as the country's build partner, and Turkish technology and systems engineering house Savunma Teknolojileri Mühendislik ve Ticaret (STM).

The vessel, which will be in service as PNS Moawin with pennant number 39 once commissioned, has an overall length of 158.4 m and displaces approximately 16,400 tonnes at full load. Moawin has a top speed of 20 kt and will be in service as Pakistan's largest-ever indigenously built naval ship.

The platform has two deck cranes and two replenishment-at-sea (RAS) masts, one each on the port and starboard sides, which allows it to refuel two vessels simultaneously via the alongside connected replenishment (CONREP) method.

The vessel also features a flight deck to support vertical replenishment (VERTREP) operations, and this can accommodate a single aircraft such as the Sea King helicopter to facilitate the transfer of stores between ships. For improved visibility, at-sea replenishment operations can be co-ordinated from a separate superstructure built amidships.

Dat lijkt mij gewoon een CB90, zoals je zelf al aangeeft heeft Maleisië die al in gebruik, dus Damen heeft er weinig aan om er iets nieuws in te hangen.

Misschien heeft Damen wel de licentie voor de CB90 gekocht, waarom iets nieuws ontwikkelen als het al op de markt is....

Dat zou zomaar kunnen, maar omdat ik weinig tot geen info heb over de FAC 1604 (1611 was mijn fout) zou het inderdaad nog gewoon een aangepaste CB-90 kunnen zijn.
Het komt wel zeer overeen met de CB-90:

Info die ik kreeg van Damen over de FAC 1604 : landings i.c.m. patrouille vaartuig / 15 Mariniers of SOF troepen / optioneel tot lvl 3 pantser/ 12,7 mm hitrole (optioneel?) / circa 50 knopen.

Wel lijkt de achterkant meer gesloten bij dit model dan bij de standaard CB-90.
