Dus geen NH-90 of seahawks, maar AW139

Italie heeft recentelijk ook AW139 aangekocht voor (C)SAR  search and rescue operaties, wel in de versie HH-139 (miliare aanduiding) , 10 stuks totaal.

The multipurpose chopper, one of the 10 the Italian Air Force has bought, is equipped with a brand new heavy duty landing gear, secure communications suite, integrated defensive aids suite, hoist, search light, wire cutters, nose mounted FLIR, cargo hook, loudspeaker system and emergency floatation gear and any other oddity required to perform "convetional" search and rescue, as well as Combat SAR missions

It can be equipped with two wing-mounted pods for 70 mm unguided rockets (12+3 in total), as the one used by the HH-139 CSX81798/15-42, an experimental machine in the colors of the 15° Stormo (Wing) based at Cervia.

Deze kist zit ook wel in een andere klasse dan de twee waar je hem mee vergelijkt.
Met 3,6 ton is de AW139 een heel wat lichtere heli dan de seahawk (6,9 ton) of NH90 (6,4 ton).

Sjöfartsverket, the Swedish Maritime Administration, has signed an agreement with the Anglo-Italian helicopter manufacturer AgustaWestland S.p.A to acquire seven new search and rescue helicopters (AW139 model). The AW139 is a well-tested rescue helicopter optimal for Swedish conditions and is certified according to international standards.

The Swedish Maritime Administration is responsible authority for Maritime and Aeronautical Search and Rescue Services in Sweden. A key part of this operation is the helicopter service. The rescue helicopters shall be available for search and rescue operations both at sea and over land.

There are five stations in Sweden (in Ronneby, Visby, Göteborg, Norrtälje and Umeå). They are on duty around the clock all year, and the crew must be able to set off a rescue operation within 15 minutes after they have been alerted.

The acquisition of new rescue helicopters means an increased capacity and capability in maritime and aeronautical search and rescue operations. This will ensure that the organisation's needs as well as the current set of requirements are met with. The acquisition is part of an ongoing commitment to ensure a sustainable maritime an aeronautical search and rescue service. The new helicopters will gradually replace the existing from mid-2013 until the end of 2014.

"It is very satisfying that in the future we will have an improved capacity and ability to save lives without increasing the total cost of operations," says Noomi Eriksson, Deputy Director General and Head of Maritime and Aeronautical Search and Rescue Department at Swedish Maritime Administration.
