Turkey Plans Battle Tank Altay's Mass Production in May

After years of development and evaluation, Turkey has finally decided to launch its Altay main battle tank into full-rate production, although uncertainties persist about the provenance of its engine


SAKARYA, Turkey --- Defense Minister Fikri Isik has said Turkey will start mass production of its main battle tank in May this year.

Speaking at an opening ceremony of a hospital in northwestern Sakarya province Tuesday, Isik said the Altay battle tank had passed all its tests successfully by the end of February.

"We will push the button on mass production in May. We will have a decision about Altay tank's mass production in May if nothing goes wrong," he said.

Referring to the Turkey-made helicopter Atak, the minister said: "We gave the 20th Atak helicopter to the Turkish Armed Forces in central Konya province.

"The weapons on the helicopter are also largely made in the country. We have watched it shooting", adding the ability to manufacture your own helicopters is a source of pride for Turkey.

Isik said Turkey is also producing its own infantry rifle that had passed NATO's 42 tests successfully. He added that Turkey makes its own drones, ships and satellites, and the country will maintain its path to progress.

Volgens twitter bronnen (niet altijd de meest betrouwbare) is dit een nieuwe Turkse anti ship missile. De bron vermeld 200km+ range, lijkt erg op een kruising tussen een harpoon en een exocet MM40

Nu jij het zegt lijkt mij 550 x 2 = 1100 RPM ook aannemelijker. Dus het Turkse systeem haalt met dubbel canon nagenoeg de RPM van een millennium canon.

Ik heb de Goalkeeper topic snel doorgenomen maar weet nog steeds niet welk systeem beter is. Met educated guess op gevoel zou ik haast zeggen dat een 35mm AHEAD munitie systeem beter is.

Het is gewoon een Turkse Pruttel.

Heb je niet goed gelezen  nee grapje. Groot deel is persoonlijke voorkeur. Het zijn twee verschillende systemen met twee verschillende werkingsprincipes en manieren om het doel uit te schakelen.  Zeggen of de een beter is dan de ander kan eigenlijk niemand, totdat je de twee aan dezelfde dreigingen onderwerpt en kijkt/meet welke het effectiefst is. En laten dat soort gegevens nou gerubriceerd zijn. Op internet kun je er in  ieder geval onvoldoende over vinden om een betrouwbaar oordeel te vellen.
Mijn persoonlijke voorkeur gaat uit naar Goalkeeper, waarom? Autonoom dmv eigen sensoren, geavanceerde algoritmen gekoppeld aan een database waarin de eigenschappen van veelvoorkomende anti-schipraketten staan, waarop de GK kan anticiperen door 'vooruit te denken', en warhead-kill (het doel vernietigd zichzelf dmv warhead detonatie) vs system-kill (het doel vliegt door een wolk van kleine wolfraam blokjes die de zoekkop, motor en stuurvlakken beschadigen).

Volgens mij klopt dat niet. Volgens diezelfde bron gebruikt Korkut een in licentie gebouwde Oerlikon GDF/KDA, hetzelfde wat op de PRTL staat, en laat die nou een vuursnelheid hebben van rond de 550...2x = 1100 

Dan zouden ze dus het revolver kanon moeten gebruiken, wat ik betwijfel gezien de filmpjes, want die laten meer 2x 550 zien zoals de pruttel.

KORKUT Serial Production Begins

Turkey has launched full-scale production of the Korkut short-range anti-aircraft system, which comprises a twin 35mm self-propelled gun vehicle (pictured) and a 3-D search radar mounted on a separate vehicle.



Following the successful completion of the design and pre-production phase of the Self-Propelled Low Altitude Air Defence Gun System (KORKUT) project conducted by the Undersecretariat for Defence Industries (SSM) together with ASELSAN as the prime contractor and FNSS as the subcontractor, to meet the need of Turkish Land Forces, serial production phase has commenced.

Work on the Serial Production Phase of the KORKUT Project started after the serial production agreement was signed between SSM and ASELSAN, and subsequently a sub-contract agreement was signed between ASELSAN and FNSS on December 2, 2016 for the delivery of the tracked platforms.

The KORKUT System is comprised of a Command and Control Vehicle and Weapon System Vehicle to complete air defence operations. The Command and Control Vehicle detects and tracks targets with its 3D search radar and while developing a local air picture, evaluates threats and assigns targets to the Weapon System Vehicles. Meanwhile, the Weapon System Vehicles trace the target with fire control radar and generates firepower with two 35 mm guns using fragmentation ammunition.

Both the Weapon System Vehicles and the Command and Control Vehicles were built on the ACV-30 chassis, the tracked carrying platform specially developed by FNSS to carry the command and control, large scale mobile radar, gunfire support, self-propelled artillery and missile systems. The ACV-30 is also used in the Low Altitude Air Defence Missile System (HİSAR-A) project.

The most remarkable feature of the ACV-30 is its amphibious capability while maintaining high payload capacity, superior mobility performance and a large internal volume. This amphibious feature distinguishes KORKUT from all other existing medium calibre self-propelled air defence systems in the market today. The KORKUT system is able to carry out missions with heavy armoured platforms such as the main battle tank and armoured combat vehicles, including the ability to fire on the move, and manoeuvre natural obstacles such as river crossings, offering a significant tactical advantage.

In the context of the development phase of the KORKUT Project, the contract for the development of tracked carrying platform was signed between ASELSAN and FNSS on June 25, 2011. One Command and Control Vehicle and two Weapon System Vehicles developed and tests were successfully completed, with final acceptance occurring October 31, 2016.

Production line qualification and serial production activities will be carried out in accordance with the Serial Production Phase of the KORKUT Project that started on May 19, 2016 with the signing of the related agreement between SSM and ASELSAN. The systems will be delivered in groups consisting of one Command and Control Vehicle and three Weapon System Vehicles. The first group of ACV-30 vehicles to be manufactured by FNSS are planned to be delivered to ASELSAN in May 2018.

Following the Pedestal Mounted Stinger system, the KORKUT Project will be the second air defence system indigenously developed by the Turkish defence industry to be delivered to the Turkish Armed Forces. The fact that both air defence systems and the vehicle to carry these systems were developed by the Turkish defence industry attracts attention, as it shows progress by industry since the Pedestal Mounted Stinger system.

De Turken willen wel serieus werk maken van hun wapenindustrie, het heeft nu wel (vind ik) een groot "Copy & Paste" gehalte zoals ook de Chinezen doen. Dus een bestaand goed werkend "wapen" kopiëren en veranderen naar je eigen eisen/wensen.
En ook dat ze (bijna) alles nu zelf willen (verder) ontwikkelen en bouwen, worden ze minder afhankelijk van andere landen, zoals de VS, Rusland e.d.   

The new ship was named TCG Anadolu (Anatolia  in Turkish) and developed by the Sedef–Navantia consortium.

The TCG Anadolu will use the same design as that of the Spanish ship Juan Carlos I. All of the ship's weapons system will be procured by Turkish firms Havelsan and ASELSAN. Expected launch in year 2021
