NL ging voor trophy, DU niet toch?

Ach misschien een foutje in de communicatie en hebben de Duitsers per ongeluk iets vrijgegeven wat nog niet helemaal bekend mocht worden zoals sommigen hier al aanhaalden een 515 met Duitse inbreng, dan is het toch handig als je zelfde versie tank hebt, vond aantal wel typisch.

Rheinmetall to possibly modernize Greek Army Leopard 1A5 and Leopard 2A4 MBTs to Leopard 2A7 standard

According to DefenceReview.gr, on March 30, the Greek Minister of National Defense Nikos Panagiotopoulos had an extensive meeting with the German ambassador in Athens. The main topic of discussion was the proposal of KMW (Krauss-Maffei Wegmann) for the modernization of some components of the Greek armed forces.

The proposal made by KMW (Krauss-Maffei Wegmann) has a dual significance at the defense and industrial levels: it includes the radical modernization of the 183 Leopard 2A4 tanks to the Leopard 2A7 ..... tanks.

Defence Review recalls that, according to the contract for the installation of the APS Trophy systems for the German Army, the cost for this addition on 17 Leopard 2A7 tanks amounted to 45 million euros.

Aangezien ze zelf over productie faciliteiten voor leopard2 beschikken snap ik dit niet.

Maar wat is het alternatief? 190 nieuwe Leo's aanschaffen? Worden die nog gemaakt? En zo ja, wanneer zouden die dan geleverd worden en in dienst kunnen worden gesteld?

Aangezien ze zelf over productie faciliteiten voor leopard2 beschikken snap ik dit niet. Alsof de Grieken iets doen voor ons in NAVO verband.

The proposal made by KMW (Krauss-Maffei Wegmann) has a dual significance at the defense and industrial levels: it includes the radical modernization of the 183 Leopard 2A4 tanks to the Leopard 2A7 standard (alternatively the Rafael Trophy APS is proposed with an additional cost of around 600 million euros for the total number of tanks) and 190 Leopard 1A5 tanks with a new firing control system, as well as the creation of a factory in Greece.

The cost of the modernization based on what was requested by the Greek army of 183 Leopard 2A4s and 190 Leopard 1A5s to 1.3 billion euros, while if the Trophy is placed by Rafael in the 183 tanks, a cost of 600 million euros has been calculated to reach a total of 1.9 billion euros. The installation and completion of the APS Trophy in German Leopard 2A7 is made by KMW, which is also the manufacturer of the tanks.

Deze foto is toch echt al weer een paar maanden oud. Daarna zijn er nieuwe A7's ingestroomd  bij de Deu landmacht zonder deze puisten erop. Dus laten we hopen dat KMW inmiddels aan het kijken is naar integratie van die boxen.

2A4 was ook prachtig lomp. Maar inderdaad is de 2A6 de koning. Die lange pijp is geniaal. Indrukwekkend, iedere keer.

Maar dit ziet er inderdaad niet uit. Ik snap niet dat er simpelweg een fatsoenlijke integratie met front pantser platen zijn gekomen. Die Ijn redelijk eenvoudig te demonteren en aan te passen in een programma.

Zelfs die Altay is mooier. Zonde, want vanaf de 2a5 was het altijd wel een beauty, vond ik.

Het is een zeer, zeer belangrijke toevoeging voor de Leopard-2 en esthethisch is niet belangrijk, maar holy crap het ziet er echt Fugly uit en het went niet...

EuroTrophy GmbH, a new German-based company for Trophy APS (Active Protection System) has been established by KMW, GDELS and Rafael.

Press Release, Frankfurt, 29 March 2022: EuroTrophy GmbH, a new German-based company for the marketing, sales and production of the advanced Active Protection System (APS) for wheeled and tracked armoured vehicles 'Trophy' was incorporated on March 28th by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW), General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems (Rafael).

EuroTrophy GmbH focuses its business activities on NATO and EU customers in Europe. The company will also provide qualified vehicle integration services and related through-life support for the APS. A transfer of technology will allow for the local production of the Trophy APS in Germany. The transfer of state-of-the-art technology, local production, maintenance and services will significantly improve the security of supply of the Trophy APS in Europe.

Mr. Mark Stockfisch, Ms. Daniela Müller and Mr. Dan Kalfus are appointed management board members and will lead the newly established company.

Challenger 3: Turret upgrade milestone for incoming British tank

The finished vehicle will be fully digitised, including a new turret, improved engine and 120mm smoothbore gun.
The British Army's new battle tank project has seen the first steel cut for a new turret – a major part of the upgrade from the Challenger 2 to the Challenger 3 (C3).
Initial operating capability for the incoming C3 is expected in 2027, despite troubled heavy armour programmes putting defence procurement under the spotlight in recent years.

An upgrade to 148 Challenger 2 tanks – 79 will be retired – will see the new turrets swapped into the same hulls, offering greater targeting, surveillance and survivability for the C3s.

Dat het incasseringsvermogen een punt is.  Is te begrijpen, want een grotere romp, dus een groter doell.
En de dunne bepantsering van een infanterie gevechtsvoertuig.  Maar dat punt van tekortschietende autonomie snap ik niet.

Ergens gelezen dat er ook een KF51 onderstel in ontwikkeling zou zijn bij Rheinmettal. Dat zou een groter onderstel voor deze 120 mm toren. John Hawkes van Janes benoemde dit ergens in een tweet.
