Zover ik weet worden er nu 3 prototypes aangeschaft voor testen, waaruit 1 leverancier gekozen wordt. Sig Sauer ontwerp ligt het dichtst bij
wat nu in gebruik is. Zie de bijlagen voor de verschillende types.

Inderdaad, ik vond die Colts prima, goede verbetering t.o.v de C7, maar zodra je met een HK416 knalt denk je wel hmmm  .
Het plan was ook dat de hele landmacht de HK416 zou krijgen, maarja monies. De crisis van 2008 was daar debet aan.

De HK416 is ook het beste gecombineerd: ergonomie van het AR-15 platform en het zuigersysteem. Wie weet komt de HK416 of een afgeleide ooit nog als opvolger van de C7NLD/C8NLD/LOAWNLD.

Colt Canada v/h Diemaco had ten tijde van de upgrade de keuze tussen groen en zandkleurige delen. De M16 werd in het begin ook als speelgoed geweer gezien.

Overigens kan Heckler & Koch de HK416/417 in zandkleurig leveren. Hetzelfde met  de FN SCAR-L en SCAR-H.

Maar als je zo'n grote order plaatst als de Landmacht kan je toch zelf je kleur bepalen ? al wil je roze....

Australian Defence Force to acquire 8,500 additional EF88 Austeyr rifles

The Department of Defence (DoD) in Canberra announced on 13 July that it will procure an additional 8,500 Enhanced F88 (EF88) Austeyr 5.56 mm rifles to supplement the 30,000 rifles of the same type Thales Australia has been delivering to the Australian Defence Force (ADF) under an August 2015 contract.

Minister for Defence Linda Reynolds said in a statement that the acquisition of the additional EF88s will not only improve the overall capability of the ADF but will also provide a "welcome boost to the workforce in regional Australia", pointing out that the rifles will be manufactured at the Thales Australia site in Lithgow, New South Wales.

"This acquisition will allow the retirement of older weapons, reducing the cost of sustainment, maintenance and training," said the minister, adding that, compared with previous rifles, the EF88 "has significantly improved the capability of the soldier through improved range, accuracy, ergonomics and reduced system weight".

The additional rifles, which are being delivered under the lethality element of the 'Soldier Modernisation Programme', will enable increased access to the EF88 across the full and part-time force, particularly the army's 2nd Division, said the minister.

The announcement comes after the DoD awarded Thales Australia an AUD100 million (USD70 million) contract in August 2015 for the production of 30,000 units of the F90 bullpup assault rifle – which is known as the EF88 rifle in ADF service – and approximately 2,500 units of the Steyr Mannlicher SL40 integrated grenade launcher, both of which would be supplied over a period of six years.

Bundeswehr's G36 rifle replacement reportedly delayed, MG4 A3 LMG to be delivered in 2021

Parliamentary approval of the replacement of the Bundeswehr's G36 assault rifle has been delayed again, the Bild am Sonntag newspaper reported on 7 June. The newspaper quoted a German Ministry of Defence (MoD) spokesperson as saying parliament was to consider the issue in October, as opposed to at the end of June as previously planned. Bild am Sonntag blamed a legal complaint filed by an unnamed arms producer.

An MoD spokesperson confirmed to Janes on 10 June that parliament would consider the G36 replacement this year, while refusing to give further details. "The choice of a replacement system will be reached through a fair process with clear and transparent requirements," she said. "The Bundeswehr plans to replace the G36 assault rifle with a new weapon. Until the completion of this process, the G36 assault rifle is operational without restrictions."

Meanwhile, German paratroopers have tested the MG4 A3 light machine gun (LMG) for three weeks on a shooting range in Baumholder, the German Army reported on its website on 3 June.

The MG4 A3 was tested by soldiers led by Staff Sergeant C Meier, a squad leader in Fallschirmjägerregiment (Parachute Regiment) 26, who was quoted as saying, "The light machine gun fills the gap between the G36 rifle and the MG5 machine gun. In operations we use the MG4 for covering [fire] or as an assault element to combat individual or group targets. A rifleman can use the weapon for various attacks: lying, kneeling or even standing. It is an ideal weapon to react to a suddenly appearing enemy."
