Is al bekend wat het resultaat is van de Nederlandse aanbesteding voor Designated Marksman Riffles met .260 Remington kogels?
Zou de FN Evolys 7.62 hiervoor geschikt kunnen zijn?

Net zoals onze mariniers de LOAW gebruiken.

Dat en daarvoor met de FALO en de Browning BAR.

Armalite probeerde al in de jaren 50 een band gevoede versie van de AR-10 en Colt probeerde in de jaren 60 hetzelfde met de AR-15. Beide hadden daarin geen succes. De magazijn gevoede Colt HBAR uit de jaren 80 had uiteindelijk wel succes. Via de Diemaco LSW naar de Colt Canada LOAW.

Het is meer een aanvulling. Als gewicht belangrijk is en een verwisselbare loop is onbelangrijk, dan is deze Evolys een optie. Wat dat betreft past de Evolys in het rijtje dat pz al noemde. De USMC gebruikt al enige tijd de Heckler & Koch M27 (afgeleide van HK416) in de rol van Infantry Automatic Rifle (IAR).

Net zoals onze mariniers de LOAW gebruiken.

The new machine guns are not fitted with a quick barrel change system, the solution adopted being derived from that of the FN SCAR rifle. You must therefore disassemble the machine gun and then remove the four screws that fix the barrel to the receiver, an operation that takes only a couple of minutes.

Alleen de loop is van staal, de rest is van kevlar of koolstofvezel.

Zo als ik het zie lijkt het op een mix van de FN Minimi en de FN SCAR, de poten kunnen van kevlar of koolstofvezel zijn? Ik kan me natuurlijk vergissen.

Toen ik dit bericht las moest ik denken aan de FALO en Diemaco (verzwaarde loop) die de Mariniers gebruiken en hebben gebruikt.

Belgian arms manufacturer FN Herstal launched a new light machinegun today, the FN Evolys tm. The company showed the new weapon in a digital event on the FN Herstal website. Available in both 5.56 and 7.62 versions, FN's new creation is what they call 'ultralight'. The FN Evolys weights between 5,5 and 6 kilograms, depending on the caliber. That brings it close to the weight of an assault-rifle.

lateral feed

The weapon has an integrated rail running the whole upper section. That meant that FN had to design a patented lateral feed system. A real innovation. The long rail makes it easier to mount a wide array of optics, or combination of optics to the FN Evolys. Loading the weapon can be done with one hand, by right – and lefthanded operators. An incorrectly placed belt will automatically pushed into the correct position when the feedcover is closed. After firing the last round, from a freed belt or the same magazine pouches used with the FN Minimi, the last link is ejected, making reloading faster and reliable.

The firing selector is ambidextrous and the stock looks like the one from the company's FN SCAR and can be positioned to suit the gunners liking. According to FN Herstal, this new weapon will close the gap to assault rifles, making it no longer an issue to choose between the two.

Portuguese Army advances its soldier modernisation effort

The Portuguese Army has given a significant boost to its dismounted soldier system programme SCS (Sistemas de Combate do Soldado) following a EUR42.8 million (USD56.9 million) contract that was awarded by the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) to FN Herstal in October 2019.

In total 15,000 5.56 × 45 mm SCAR-L STD assault rifles, 940 7.62 × 51 mm SCAR-H STD assault rifles (550 of which incorporate the Trijicon VCOG 1-6 × 24 riflescope and bipod), 1,000 5.56 × 45 mm MINIMI Mk3 Tactical SB and 400 7.62 × 51 mm MINIMI Mk3 Tactical machine guns, and 2,000 40 × 46 mm FN40GL-S stand-alone grenade launchers are being received through 2022, Major Ricardo Jorge Parcelas Araújo e Silva, an area coordinator at the Forces Planning Division, told Janes on 17 March.

Aimpoint CompM4 red dot sights for the SCAR-L STDs and 5.56 x 45 mm MINIMI Mk3s,Trijicon ACOG 3.5 × 35 riflescopes for 7.62 × 51 mm MINIMI Mk3s, Extrema Ratio Fulcrum bayonets, and a ten-year tools and gauges package were part of the contract.

Moreover, 380 Benelli SuperNova TS 12-gauge shotguns and 3,910 Glock G17 Gen5 9 ×19 mm pistols were separately acquired through the NSPA, and received between 2019 and 2021. The shotguns also are used in the counter unmanned aerial system (C-UAS) role.

Testing done by HKPro in 2000 indicated that the 4.6×30mm cartridge penetrated deeper in 20% ballistic gelatin and transferred slightly more energy than the 5.7×28mm cartridge fired from the FN P90.[4] However, a more recent series of tests performed by NATO in the United Kingdom and France indicated that 5.7×28mm was the superior cartridge.[9] The results of the NATO tests were analyzed by a group formed of experts from France, the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom and the group's conclusion was that the 5.7×28mm was "undoubtedly" the more efficient cartridge.[9]

Among other points, the NATO group cited superior effectiveness (27% greater) for the 5.7×28mm against unprotected targets and equal effectiveness against protected targets.[9] It also cited less sensitivity to extreme temperatures for the 5.7×28mm and cited a greater potential risk of barrel erosion with the 4.6×30mm.[9] In addition, the group pointed out that 5.7×28mm is close to the 5.56×45mm NATO by its design and manufacture process, allowing it to be manufactured on existing production lines.[9] The group also pointed out that 5.7×28mm weapons are more mature than 4.6×30mm weapons, and the 5.7×28mm FN Five-seven pistol was already in production at that time, while the 4.6×30mm Heckler & Koch UCP pistol was still only an early concept.[9] However, the German delegation and others rejected the NATO recommendation that 5.7×28mm be standardized, and as a result, the standardization process was indefinitely halted.[1][9]

Ik ben niet onder de indruk van dat luchtbuks kaliber dus.
