toch denk ik dat dat het niet is, de ontwikkelingen in luchtvaart gaan sneller dan maritiem en al helemaal maritieme luchtvaart.
Dit is nog steeds een gigant en dat is allemaal gebaseerd op de grootte van de vliegtuigen en de bemande status.

Is zo'n lang stuk varend asfalt op zee iets wat je nog moet willen is de hoofdvraag. Lijkt me helemaal niet deze kant op te gaan met de STVL ontwikkelingen. Daarnaast lijkt een open dek me ook iets ongewilds tegenwoordig. Ik zie meer in een soort onderwater carrier, die boven komt poppen, of misschien helemaal niet, en drones lanceert die misschien de helft of een kwart zijn van een huidige fighter. Moet je daarnaast nog wel zo veel willen stoppen in maritiem als je overal over kunt vliegen.

Alsof het zo uit een sci-fi en/of anime film komt.

Vraag mij wel serieus af of beide catapults op de flanken (en op een lager niveau) handig qua operatie zijn. De vliegtuigen moeten vanuit de hangaar komen om vervolgens 180 graden te moeten keren.

Acting US navy secretary wants "clean sheet" carrier study

US Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly is looking for his Future Carrier Task Force Study to provide a "clean sheet" of alternative aircraft carrier choices after Ford-class ships to include smaller and even conventionally powered vessels.

Acknowledging the current Ford-class carriers provide greater capabilities than the predecessor Nimitz-class vessels – and will be plying the seas for another half century or more – Modly wants the six-month study launched this week to determine to best carrier design and force makeup for the succeeding decades, he said on 10 March during a media briefing.

"Do we continue to build those (next-generation large-deck carriers), or something different?" Modly said.

Die vier Korvetten der Tamandaré-Klasse sollen zwischen 2025 und 2028 an die brasilianische Marine ausgeliefert werden

Lange wurde verhandelt, nun steht es fest: die Kieler Werft Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) wird vier neue Schiffe für die brasilianische Marine bauen. Das gab TKMS am Donnerstagabend bekannt. Der milliardenschwere Auftrag zum Bau der Korvetten der Tamandaré-Klasse wurde in Rio de Janeiro unterzeichnet. Doch statt in der schleswig-holsteinischen Landeshauptstadt werden die Schiffe im brasilianischen Itajaí, im Bundesstaat Santa Catarina, gebaut. Die Kieler Werft liefert dafür das technische Know-How. Die Kosten sollen sich auf insgesamt 1,8 Milliarden Euro belaufen.

Doen die Spanjaarden goed, die weten schijnbaar beter een joint ontwerp aan de man te brengen dan wij Nederlanders. Ze kunnen er nog net niet van de plank op plakken maar scheelt niet veel.

Dit is niets meer dan een schip dat vanuit Navantia Australië ontwikkeld is op papier, volgens de werf moet het voldoen aan de wensen van de RAN. Er is nog geen contract getekend of überhaupt een aanbesteding uitgeschreven.

En ook Damen kan een vergelijkbaar schip vrij simpel ontwerpen;

Verleng de opbouw waardoor de 3e helispot verloren gaat, bouw de hangaar zo dat er ruimte is voor 2 NH90's. Plaats 2 RAS masten midscheeps en i.p.v. een deel van de Ro-Ro ruimte bouwen ze er tanks in voor brandstof.

Ontwerpje binnen 5 minuten in elkaar geknutseld 



Ook moet ik zeggen dat de capaciteiten van het Navantia voorstel zeer teleurstellend vind:
F76 Diesel = 3600 ton (JSS KD & CSS = 6500 ton / 7700 m3)
F44 Kerosine = 600 ton (800 ton / 1000 m3)
FW = 400 ton (400 ton / 400 m3)

Ook het bereik van het schip is zeer beperkt met slechts 6000 zeemijl (JSS KD zit op 10000 zeemijl )

'k Meen me te herinneren dat de Fransen het ook geprobeerd hebben met hun GoWinds.

Echter, landen als Bulgarije en Roemenie hebben echt nood aan vernieuwing van hun vloot. En uit eigen budget zal het niet komen, vrees ik...

Germany-based Lürssen is set to be awarded a contract to supply two multifunctional modular patrol vessels to the Bulgarian Navy, following the recommendation of a government working group.

A statement on 27 February from the Bulgarian government noted that the bid from Lürssen falls within the financial limits of the project (BGN984 million, or $551 million).

Each vessel will be armed with a 76mm main gun, CIWS, anti-ship missiles, SAMs, and lightweight torpedoes. The ships will also include a 3D radar, Link 11 equipment, hull-mounted sonar, a baseline EW system and the capability to accommodate one AS565MB Panther helicopter.

The tender stipulates that at least one of the two ships shall be built in Bulgaria. According to the project schedule, the first hull should be launched in 2021 and the second in 2022.

GE & Hanwha Sign MOU for ROK Navy KDDX Program

GE's Power Conversion business and Hanwha Aerospace signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) whereby the parties will work together to bring electric propulsion solutions to the Republic of Korea (ROK) Navy for its new, six-ship KDDX destroyer program.

Under the MOU, GE's Power Conversion business offers its proven and low-risk naval electric drive propulsion solutions including Integrated Full Electric Propulsion (IFEP) or Hybrid Electric Drive (HED) as well as propulsion integration capabilities

Second Portuguese Type M frigate to undergo MLU

The Portuguese Navy's second Bartolomeu Dias (M)-class frigate, NRP D Francisco de Almeida (F 334), is scheduled to begin its mid-life upgrade (MLU) in Den Helder, the Netherlands, on 6 July, the service has told Jane's.

Upgrade work, which will be carried out at the Royal Netherlands Navy's Marinebedrijf shipyard, is scheduled to be completed in April 2022.

First-of-class NRP Bartolomeu Dias (F 333) entered its MLU in May 2018 and work is expected to be completed in late 2020.

The modernisation of Portugal's two M-class ships in the Netherlands was approved in 2016 and aims to extend their service lives until 2035 as well as delivering capabilities to support the continued participation in higher-intensity national and multinational operations.

De FREMM.. die status. Komt vooral door gewalhalla van de gebruiker/bouwer die in hetzelfde potje zitten. En geent op export, komt er door de controle geen slecht woord over naar buiten.

Met de aap-uit-de-mouw:
Guillou added that Naval Group will be the core around which a future "Naval Airbus" would be built "because we have the means and the desire to do so ... and other companies don't."

De kosten zijn idd een probleem voor werven... FREMM is/was een goed programma maar indien de staat zich al niet aan het programma wil houden, dan ben je als werf de pineut.
Met de FTI/FdI hoopt Naval Group alsnog export orders binnen te halen met de export-versie Belh@rra.

Op een 'consolidatie' in Europa zit ik al lang te wachten... die komt er zeker aan.
Echter... De verscheidene bedrijven zullen niet zonder slag of stoot in die richting gaan...
