Altijd al vreemd gevonden dat hier nog niets voor was bedacht.

De eerste versies van MK41 VLS hadden een klein kraantje maar dat nam de ruimte van 3 VLS cellen in.

At-Sea Rearming Deemed A ?Main Priority? By SECNAV

Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) Carlos Del Toro once again emphasized the need for at-sea reloading at this year?s Combat Systems Symposium.

At-sea rearming has been a capability brought time and time again by Del Toro in the past. With the challenges, the U.S. Navy faces against adversaries, such as China, ports and other facilities traditionally used for the rearming of the fleet?s vessels have come under threat.

The Indo-Pacific was noted specifically for these challenges, with Del Toro stating ?We must pay attention to the logistics side for our fleet in the Pacific in particular.?

In a wartime scenario, ports may not be accessible or safe to permit the reloading of vertical launch system (VLS) cells, leaving Navy warships empty in a high-end fight. This is of concern in the Western Pacific, where key installations for keeping vessels supplied and maintained are few and within adversary striking range. With these challenges in mind, SECNAV is pursuing new practices and the technologies needed to keep warships firing.

Systematic & Odense Maritime Technology join forces to create a big Danish joint venture

According to a PR published on February 1, 2023, Cubedin A/S is a joint venture between Systematic and Odense Maritime Technology (OMT) aimed at creating multi-purpose vessels (MPVs) for the global market: flexible, modular naval vessels that can be transformed from environmental protection craft to mine-sweepers in no time at all.

In future, it will be possible to configure ships in a matter of hours, and thus transform an inspection ship into a patrol vessel, or a mine-sweeper into an environmental protection craft.

At least if you ask the newly established company CUBEDIN A/S, which is a joint venture between two Danish companies, Systematic A/S and Odense Maritime Technology (OMT).

Both companies have made their name on the global market, in Systematic?s case within software development while OMT specialises in ship design. These competencies have now been brought together in CUBEDIN A/S, and will help to create the naval vessels of the future in the form of modular and flexible ships.

OMT, whose roots stretch back to A.P. Moller - Maersk and Odense Shipyard, is delivering expertise within modern ship design, while the second half of the maritime partnership is the software company Systematic, which is behind IT solutions that are used worldwide within defence, health, the police and wind turbine operations.

Together, the two companies have created a concept for building a brand new type of modular, flexible naval vessel. In a nutshell, the ships are designed and built to accommodate different modules ? the so-called ?cubes? ? which are delivered by the Danish company SH Defence.

The cubes are containers which can accommodate different loads, and which can quickly be loaded/unloaded depending on the ship?s forthcoming missions. The loads can come from a wide range of suppliers, just as long as they fit within the cube.

The modules for the ships can be supplied by many different companies, and the new joint venture has already caught the attention of the maritime industry.

At the world naval defence exhibition Euronaval in Paris in October 2022, CUBEDIN A/S signed, for example, a partnership agreement with the French technology giant Thales which, like several other companies around the world, has expressed a desire to deliver content for the cubes on the ships.

As part of the new joint venture, OMT is delivering flexible ship design, while Systematic is responsible for developing and supplying the software which integrates the various modules that transform the vessel for the relevant mission.

Brazil might sink aircraft carrier Sao Paulo

Brazilian aircraft carrier Sao Paulo might be sunk off the coast of Brazil despite protests from the country?s Minister for Environment, Folha de S?o Paulo newspaper has reported.

The former warship, now under tow 20 nautical miles from the Port of Suape, in Pernambuco, was found to be in poor condition by a team of technical experts on Jan. 13. The inspection found a new breach in the vessel, an increase in the flooding level, and corrosion compared to the inspection conducted four months earlier.

The navy now intends to send the vessel to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean by using explosives to open breaches in the ship. This has raised environmental concerns as the former aircraft carrier still have tons of asbestos materials on board.

The aircraft carrier was sold by the Navy to the Turkish shipyard S?k Denizcilik and Ticaret Limited and left Brazil in August last year to be broken up in Turkey. But the ship was turned around in late August after the Turkish government revoked permission for the ship to enter. Since September, with the return of the aircraft carrier, various ports along the Brazilian coast have obtained judicial decisions to prevent the hull from anchoring in their vicinity.
