#EXCLUSIVE: The delivery of 2 former Royal Netherlands Navy #Tripartite Class Minehunters to the Pakistan Navy is underway.
The ships, HNLMS Middelburg (M858) & HNLMS Haarlem (M853), were loaded onto the UHL FAME on the 21st of Sep at the Port of #Zeebrugge, Belgium.





De Pakistaanse marine breidt hiermee haar MCM vloot uit en ze gaan van 3 naar 5 MCM schepen. Volgens het twitter bericht komen de schepen eind Oktober aan in Pakistan en worden ze eind November in dienst genomen.

UK and Poland sign Statement of Intent for the three Arrowhead-140 frigates

According to information published by the UK Government on October 4, 2022, the Ministers signed the Arrowhead-140 Statement of Intent which provides a framework for the UK Government and The Government of Poland to collaborate on the procurement and operation of three Arrowhead-140 frigates.

The Type 31 frigate or Inspiration class, formerly known as the Type 31e frigate or General Purpose Frigate (GPF), is a planned class of frigate intended to enter service with the United Kingdom's Royal Navy in the 2020s alongside the submarine-hunting Type 26 frigate. Designed by Babcock International, it is also marketed under the name Arrowhead 140 and was based on the hull of the Iver Huitfeldt-class frigate.

On 4 March 2022, Babcock announced that it won the Polish frigate competition. The Polish Armaments Agency selected Babcock's Arrowhead 140 (AH140) from three different platform design proposals provided by the PGZ-MIECZNIK Consortium.

The design of Babcock's Arrowhead 140 frigate originates from an air defence frigate, but is able to change operational role rapidly depending upon capability needs and will meet naval requirements both now and in the future.

Arrowhead 140 is a multi-mission surface combatant capable of conducting AAW, ASuW, ASW and EW operations and is operationally proficient in both blue water and littoral areas.

Capitalising upon a mature and proven design, Arrowhead 140 will deliver an assured frigate capability which is best placed to serve multi-operational demands.

The Type 31 frigate will have a length of 138.7 m (455 ft 1 in), a displacement of 5,700 t (5600 long tons) and will be able to reach a top speed of 28 knots (52 km/h; 32 mph).

She will be powered by a combined diesel and diesel (CODAD) propulsion system including four diesel engines, two propellers, and two variable shaft lines.

The Type 31 will be equipped with innovative technology and will benefit from advanced capabilities fitted onboard, including MBDA's Sea Ceptor, a supersonic anti-air missile defence system, as well as a 57mm and two 40mm Bofors naval guns, a 4D radar system and able to house a Royal Navy helicopter.

Bij de Type 26 zal men voor het overgrote deel varen op de diesels (0 tot 20 knopen) maar op het moment dat men sneller moet varen schakelen ze over op de GT (20 - 28 knopen).

De RR SM1C Turbines van de LCF's leveren per stuk ongeveer 19,5 MW, de nieuwe MT-30 levert per stuk al 40 MW op. Daardoor kunnen fregatten/destroyers het af met 1 GT aangevuld door diesels.
De Britse vliegkampschepen (QE & PoW) hebben wel 2 MT-30's + 4 Diesels

Toen ik die schets zag vond ik het al raar dat twee diesels en de GT in dezelfde MK opgesteld waren.
Maar dan via de link de rest van de schematics gezien en de CODELOG-spec.

Babcock to drive forward Poland Navy frigate programme Miecznik

Babcock has secured two further contracts relating to Poland's frigate programme called Miecznik (Swordfish). The Class Design Contract and the Transfer of Knowledge & Skills (TOKAT) framework agreement respectively support the further development of the programme and the enhancement of shipbuilding capability in Poland to deliver Miecznik to schedule. The two contracts underpin the strong economic and trade relations between the United Kingdom and Poland.



Babcock was earlier this year chosen as the platform design provider and technology partner for Poland's new frigate programme. Babcock is supporting the PGZ-Miecznik Consortium for three Arrowhead 140 frigates to be built in Polish shipyards by a local workforce, drawing significantly from Polish suppliers and Babcock's global supply chain.

The Miecznik programme is an important addition to Babcock's established support to international defence customers across the globe and its continued international growth ambitions.

The Class Design contract is key to supporting the maturity of the Miecznik frigate and the provision of a design documentation package to Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ S.A) for submission to the Classification Authority. This critical and timely process in the contract will drive forward the next stage of the engineering process and support the programme to achieve cut steel of Ship 1 in 2023. Under the TOKAT framework contract, Babcock will share its technology, engineering expertise and industry know-how with PGZ S.A., PGZ SW and Remontowa Ship Building with the aim to transform their shipyards and deliver the Miecznik programme for the Polish Navy. The cooperation will include human resources development and staff training, support in infrastructure upgrades planning and the implementation of tools and technologies.

Babcock announced its Miecznik frigate programme contracts during MSPO 2022, the 30th International Defence Industry event held in Kielce, Poland.

Babcock CEO David Lockwood said: "I am delighted with the progress on the Polish Miecznik programme. Our work in Poland builds on the shared interests of the NATO countries. Babcock will deliver first-class frigates that will contribute significantly to the sovereign defence capability in Poland. We look forward to building on our close working relationship with the PGZ-Miecznik Consortium."

Earlier this year Babcock supported the opening of a new PGZ S.A Project Management Office in Gdynia, Poland, that will manage the in-country delivery of the country's Miecznik frigate programme.

Poland's Miecznik frigate programme is the second export contract for Arrowhead 140 following the first order of a design licence agreement with PT PAL in Indonesia for two frigates. Babcock was announced as the preferred bidder for the UK Type 31 frigate programme in 2019, with the contract confirmed in November of the same year.

Toch wel weer jammer, het waren mooie light carrier ontwerpen van de Koreanen. Ik begrijp de keuze voor met ballistische en kruisraketten uitgeruste onderzeeboten wel. Op dit moment heeft de ROK navy 1 onderzeeboot met ballistische raketten in dienst maar er zijn er nog eens 3 in aanbouw + 1 gepland. Deze 5 boten vallen onder de KSS-III serie onderzeeboten en zijn een doorontwikkeling van de Duitse Type 214 boten.  Verdeeld over 2 modellen ''Batch-1 & Batch-2'' waarbij de Batch 1 beschikken over 6x Hyunmoo 4.4 SLBM's hebben de 2 nieuwste batch-2 modellen al 10x Hyunmoo 4.4 SLBM's.

Het is algemeen bekend dat Zuid-Korea ook de opties bekijkt om de volgende serie (batch-3) te voorzien van nucleaire voorstuwing waarmee ze dus eigenlijk een eigen SSBN of SSN (zonder SLBMs) hebben ontwikkeld. En uiteraard is er ook de verwachting dat de SLBM's door ontwikkeld worden tot wapens met een (veel) groter bereik en/of de uitbreiding van het aantal VLS cellen tot 12 a 16 stuks vergelijkbaar met andere SSBN's in de wereld.
