Duidelijk, ISR is een van de taken van een MPA dus het had een optie kunnen zijn. Misschien jammer maar misschien ook niet nodig voor ons.

Ik verwacht dan eerder een soort van UAV om bijv. de windmolenparken e.d. in de gaten te kunnen houden of iets van die strekking?

Ik verwacht eerder dat het om een (grote) USV gaat eventueel in combinatie met een ander project ''Verwerving deployable ASW-barrier'' waarbij op basis van 1 USV romp meerdere modules geplaatst kunnen worden en deze USV's vanaf de wal of vanaf een ander schip (fregat/XO) kunnen worden aangestuurd.

Opvallend genoeg staat er in de defensie nota wel een project opgenomen ''Verwerving ISR-capaciteit Noordzee''. Aangezien dit slechts een klein project is van 25 a 100 miljoen euro verwacht ik ook niet dat dit project bestaat uit P-8 poseidons.

Al is het natuurlijk mogelijk dat we een x bedrag neerleggen voor een x aantal vlieguren per jaar net zoals bij de MRTT's. De Duitsers betalen ongeveer 140 miljoen euro per toestel zonder alle onderdelen en opleidingen.

Indien  we ooit weer MPA's aanschaffen: we hebben (nog steeds) velden genoeg in ons Koninkrijk om ze te stationeren; Voorkeur: VLB Leeuwarden of Woensdrecht met een FOL op HATO.

Maak er dan meteen (minimaal) 4 stuks van. DE/NL/NO/VK hebben in dat geval gezamenlijk 30 stuks.

Another seven maritime reconnaissance aircraft are coming

According to media reports, 16.6 billion euros from the 100 billion special fund for the Bundeswehr are earmarked for the army, 19.3 billion for the navy and 40.9 billion for the air force. The project list is still confidential, but CDU member of parliament Enak Ferlemann confirms to the NORDSEE-ZEITUNG that in addition to the already approved five P-8A "Poseidon" long-range maritime reconnaissance aircraft, another seven aircraft will be coming to Nordholz. On Friday, the Bundestag will vote on it. In June 2021, the budget committee of the Bundestag had approved a 1.5 billion deal with the USA. For this purpose, five Boeing aircraft of the type P-8A "Poseidon" are purchased. They replace the outdated "Orion" machines, whose marketing approval ends in 2025.

As the successor of the "Orion"

The Nordholz naval pilots have eight long-range reconnaissance aircraft that can detect and fight submarines from a great distance. In 2004, the Bundeswehr bought the "Orion" aircraft used from the Dutch Navy as a successor to the "Breguet Atlantic". From 2023, only two "Orions" would have been operational.

"This is great news for the soldiers in Nordholz and for our region. The Nordholz location is thus well positioned and secured for years to come," said the Cuxhaven politician, who was Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Transport from 2013 to 2021.

Delivery of final RNoAF Poseidon

On 27 May 2022, the fifth and final Boeing P-8A Poseidon was delivered to the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (NDMA). The aircraft, serial 9586 and named "Munin", is the third that arrived in Norway. The other two Poseidons currently reside at NAS Jacksonville (FL) and will be delivered to Norway at a later stage, with the final aircraft expected in 2023. All Poseidons will be operated by 333 skvadron at Evenes.

All Poseidons have been named with long historical roots. The name "Munin" comes from Norse mythology and will continue the legacy of the Luftforsvaret (RNoAF, Royal Norwegian Air Force) Falcon 20ECM "Hugin" and "Munin" which are still in operational service today with FEKS/717 skvadron. FEKS is the Forsvarets elektroniske krigføringssenter (Armed Forces Center for Electronic Warfare).

In March 2017, Norway ordered five P-8A Maritime Multimission Aircraft (MMA) in a USD 1,2 billion Foreign Military Sale (FMS) contract. The Poseidons are purchased as a replacement for the RNoAF veteran fleet of P-3C/N Orion Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) as well as the two Dassault Falcon 20ECM surveillance aircraft.

Boeing Begins Build on New Zealand's First P-8A Aircraft



WICHITA, Kan., March 17, 2022 –Boeing [NYSE: BA] P-8A team members and Spirit AeroSystems employees have laid the keel beam for New Zealand's first P-8A. This process, also called 'keeling,' was done at the Spirit AeroSystems facility where all Boeing 737 fuselages, nacelles and pylons are designed and built. Laying the keel is an important production milestone during the build of any ship or aircraft and represents the cornerstone of this latest P-8.

Rosemary Banks, New Zealand's ambassador to the United States, who was on hand to witness the keeling said, "Today's keeling ceremony is the beginning of a new era for New Zealand's maritime patrol and response capability. Our four P-8A Poseidons will better equip our defence forces to extend their reach into the Pacific and beyond, working with our partners and friends."

An aircraft keel runs the length of the fuselage belly. Due to the innovative in-line approach to the build of commercial derivative aircraft pioneered on the P-8A, the keel beam on a P-8 is different from the typical 737 keel beam. The P-8 keel includes unique aspects of the P-8 configuration, such as the integration of an internal weapons bay.   

"The excitement of seeing this come together was contagious," said Brian Stuart, P-8 program manager for New Zealand.  "Not only are we kicking off the journey to the first New Zealand P-8A delivery, but we are strengthening our relationships with suppliers like Spirit as well as our U.S. Navy and Royal New Zealand Air Force customers."

The panel and other fuselage components will be completed on Spirit's existing 737 production line.  Spirit will ship the P-8A fuselage to a Boeing Commercial Airplanes facility in Renton, Washington for final assembly. After that, Boeing Defense, Space & Security employees will install mission systems and complete testing prior to delivery to New Zealand later this year.

In total, four Boeing P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft will eventually replace New Zealand's current fleet of six aging P-3K2 Orion aircraft providing advanced capabilities to maintain situational awareness in neighboring waters on and below the surface of the ocean.

The New Zealand Defence Force is a P-8 foreign military sales customer and is one of eight global customers. Current P-8 operators include the U.S. Navy, the Royal Australian Air Force, the Indian Navy, United Kingdom's Royal Air Force and Norway's Royal Norwegian Air Force.

To date, the global operating P-8 fleet has amassed more than 400,000 mishap-free flight hours. The P-8 is a long-range anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft capable of broad-area, maritime and littoral operations. In addition, the P-8 performs humanitarian and search and rescue missions around the globe.
