Nu is mijn volgende vraag waarschijnlijk een hele domme vraag maar;

Ik heb nog nooit gezien bij een leopard tank of iets van dit kaliber dat de shells zo naar buiten gegooid worden. Is dat gebruikelijk ?

Dat luik is op de Leo dicht gelast.

Pindad Demonstrates Medium Tank to PHL

Indonesia's PT Pindad recently hosted members of the Philippines Army's Technical Working Group for the Light Tank acquisition Project, which are mostly members from the Mechanized Infantry Division, as PT Pindad provided a product demonstration for it's Harimau Hitam (Kaplan MT) medium tank in Indonesia.

MaxDefense previously mentioned that PT Pindad has allocated a schedule somewhere between 19-25 November 2018 for such demonstration. Based on the photos, it appears the demo did happen on 22 November.

PT Pindad is among the frontrunners for the Light Tank project, which looks at acquiring between 30 to 44 units of tracked light or medium tanks armed with a 105mm tank gun, enough to equip a battalion. The numbers still carry due to the possibility of dividing the numbers into tracked and wheeled platforms, depending on the PA MID's final decision.

Vergeleken met de Boxer is dit echt een gedrocht. En dat zegt wel wat over het ontworp, alles behalve geïntegreerd, voorzijde laat al zien dat er veel concessies zijn gemaakt.

Puma IFV 'no bid' for Land 400 Phase 3

PSM, the company managing the Puma Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) joint venture project between Rheinmetall and Kraus-Maffei Wegmann, has announced that the vehicle will not contend for Land 400 Phase 3 - the M113 replacement. PSM cited the remote controlled turret on the Puma as the reason behind the decision.

"The Australian Army has explicitely expressed the preference for a manned turret and has stated that vehicles featuring unmanned turrets will most likely be unsuccessful," PSM said in a statement.

"The Australian Army relinguishes with this decision the advantages of remote controlled turret technologies offering maximum protection with highest firepower and accuracy while maintaing mobilty comparabable to main battle tanks.

"This decision by the Australian Army is the reason why PSM has decided not to offer the Puma IFV in the Australian procurement project Land 400 Phase 3."

Rheinmetall is also offering the Lynx IFV as the M113 replacement, which has significant commonalities with the Boxer vehicles selected under Land 400 Phase 2. "Commonality does not mean identicality," BRIG Greg McGlone, head of the Land 400 program, has said to ADM in the past. This needs to be kept front of mind as Army progresses its largest ever program. But as with Phase 2, Phase 3 will see a number of variants in play, some turreted and some not. It also remains to be seen what role local RWS designer and manufacturer EOS will play in this space as bids come together with bids due in the box March 1, 2019.

ADM Comment: A turret makes up roughly a third of the per platform cost when it comes to these large armoured vehicles, and a similiar amount when it comes to sustainment over the life of type. At first glance, it would make sense to have commonality between the phases in this regard.

Zowiezo een kansloos voertuig voor de export. Zit geen greintje flexibiliteit in vwbt het ontwerp. De fabrikant wenste in het verleden geen aanpassingen te doen aan het ontwerp voor geïnteresseerden. Dus zal het altijd enkel en alleen voor de Bundeswher zijn gebouwd.
De Lynx van Rheinmetal daarentegen gooit wel hoge ogen.

er is nog wel meer aan de hand... zie onderstaande posting van "Willy Brandt"... kinderziektes ?

On the point of the Puma not being deployable:
Yeah heck it isnt.
It takes Months to get one back from Maintenance and it breaksdown again the same day you got it back.
The turret crashes often randomly sometimes while shooting.
The whole thing sometimes freezes and you have to reboot it.
The same with the rear hatch not working so you have to pump it shut.
The Computer always gives you millions of error messages that you just have to ignore if you want to use the tank.
And you always have KMW and Rheinmetall Service on speed dial if something happens.

But when it works when you need it too its great but that doesnt happen often.
It has potential but going from the Marder which is reliable as heck to the Puma is very frustrating.
