Only 5 of 27 'critical issues' preventing the Ajax armoured vehicle from entering service have been resolved.

The MoD has a £5.522 billion contract with General Dynamics Land Systems UK (GDLS-UK) for the design, manufacture and initial in-service support of 589 Ajax armoured vehicles.

Nexter teams with Greek partner to propose IFV for Hellenic Army

Nexter has signed a strategic partnership with state-run Hellenic Defence Systems (HDS) to meet a Hellenic Army requirement for modernised IFVs, in the latest manifestation of the close Franco-Greek defence relationship.

The two firms are proposing a solution called Philoctetes, which was first unveiled in July 2021 at the DEFEA exhibition in Athens.

Philoctetes is a VBCI-2 8x8 vehicle with a two-person Nexter T40 turret featuring a 40mm CTAS cannon and MBDA medium-range missile launcher.

The 32t VBCI-2 includes multiple variants (APC, command post, 120mm mortar, medevac and vehicle recovery), and Nexter stated that it is applying feedback from the French Army in the design of the Philoctetes IFV.



For example, the new IFV envisaged for the Hellenic Army will include a 600hp engine to ensure 'very high tactical, strategic and operational mobility', Nexter claimed. Previous versions of VBCI-2 feature a Volvo D13 diesel engine generating up to 500hp.

The Greek Army operates a fleet of tracked APCs numbering more than 2,600 vehicles. Types include Cold War-era designs such as the BMP-1A1 Ost, the Leonidas I and II (locally-produced versions of the Steyr 4K-7FA-G17) and various versions of the M113, all of which fall short in their lethality, mobility and protection when compared with modern designs.

Shephard Defence Insight forecasts a Hellenic Army requirement for 500 vehicles – at a modelled unit price of $5.5 million, this would the overall cost of procuring Philoctetes at $2.8 billion.

De Lynx is recentelijk als voorkeur voertuig naar buiten gekomen (onofficieel) die kans is dus redelijk aanwezig dat de Duitsers weer dit contract binnen halen.

Ik lees in berichten op Twitter dat de AUS defensie de AS21 prefereert, de politiek de Lynx. Afwachten maar.

De Lynx is recentelijk als voorkeur voertuig naar buiten gekomen (onofficieel) die kans is dus redelijk aanwezig dat de Duitsers weer dit contract binnen halen.

GDELS and ROMARM sign Industrial Consortium Agreement for local Production of Wheeled Armored Vehicles in Romania
On March 15th, General Dynamics European Land Systems` local company GDELS-Romania (GDELS-RO) signed an agreement for the creation of an industrial consortium with its strategic Romanian partner, C.N. ROMARM Uzina Mecanica Bucuresti (UMB), which marks a key milestone for the establishment of a national production capability for wheeled armored vehicles in Romania.

In January 2018, and as part of the Romanian Army's plans to modernize its legacy wheeled armoured vehicle fleet, GDELS signed a contract with the Romanian Ministry of Defence to deliver up to 227 PIRANHA 5 wheeled armoured vehicles in six different configurations. With production progressing as planned, over 60 locally produced PIRANHA 5 vehicles have been delivered by GDELS to the Romanian Army since the program was launched. The signature of an industrial consortium between GDELS-RO and UMB will bring this strategic cooperation between General Dynamics and Romania to a next level and is intended to assure the security of supply of PIRANHA 5 vehicles in the country.

Als ze echt niet happy waren zouden ze de K41 moeten overwegen lijkt me.

Ik moet zeggen dat ik het eigenlijk wel opmerkelijk vind dat de KF41 Lynx nog niet naar voren is geschoven en men nog gaat voor extra Puma's

De KF41 maakt ook goed kans in Australie en in de VS denk ik ook een serieuze kanshebber in het Next-Generation Combat Vehicle program. Daarbij is hij al in productie voor Hongarije in meerdere varianten.
Net als de Boxer is het een modulair concept.

De Puma wprdt alleen door de Duitsers gebruikt, maar Rheinmetall-KMW heeft net vorig jaar een flinke order gekregen om de Puma's te upgraden, upgrade programma zou tot 2029 nog duren, voor mijn gevoel zullen de Puma's zeker tot 2040 in dienst blijven.

Laten we hopen dat alle mankementen waar de Puma tot heden last van heeft gehad inmiddels verholpen zijn. Mooi dat alle oude Marder meuk nu vervangen gaat worden.

De marders worden niet allemaal vervangen, er worden 260 stuks van de Marder gemoderniseerd, en 71 Marders krijgen een nieuwe motor.

Zweites Los Schützenpanzer Puma kommt
So werden die deutschen Landstreitkräfte aller Voraussicht nach ein zweites Los des Schützenpanzers Puma erhalten, wie aus einer Kabinettsvorlage hervorgeht, die am Mittwoch der Regierung zugeleitet werden soll. In der Vorlage sind Verpflichtungsermächtigungen zur Beschaffung des Panzers in Höhe von 3,96 Milliarden Euro vorgesehen. Damit dürfte die Einführung von 229 Exemplaren des neuen Schützenpanzers gesichert sein und der über 50 Jahre im Einsatz stehende Marder endgültig ins Museum fahren.

Vor einigen Wochen – vor dem Überfall auf die Ukraine – hatte das Anbieterkonsortium von Krauss-Maffei Wegmann und Rheinmetall aus eigener Initiative und unaufgefordert ein Angebot für den Puma in der Version S1 in Höhe von 3,67 Milliarden Euro an das Verteidigungsministerium geschickt. Beobachter hatten seinerzeit befürchtet, dass im Einzelplan 14 nicht ausreichend Mittel für die neuen Pumas vorhanden sein könnten.

Aus eben diesem Einzelplan soll nun das zweite Los bezahlt werden und nicht aus dem Sondervermögen für die Bundeswehr in Höhe von 100 Milliarden Euro. Bundeskanzler Olaf Scholz hatte schließlich in seiner Regierungserklärung Ende Februar angekündigt, dass jährlich mehr als zwei Prozent des Bruttoinlandsproduktes für Verteidigung aufgewendet werden soll.

Ja en nog succes aan de eenheden die met de ajax worden uitgerust t.o.v het bereiken van materiële gereedheid, laat staan OG.

Zoals zo vaak bij de Britten zijn de problemen voor de eenheden. Die dan rapporten gaan schrijven over ontwerp en constructie fouten. En dan volgen er weer aanpassingprogrammas. Die gaan weer uit de pas lopen qua budget en tijd. En ondertussen is er geen functioneel voertuig. Etc. Etc.
