Ik mikte vaak op een zwat/wit brandend 'vlekje' op m'n wbg. Dat ook nog eens een aantal beeldlijnen miste, uiteraard pcies in het midden. Feest.

Maar, ook al is dit voor ons hier vanaf onze lekkere stoel een heel verschil. Resolutie is voor een schutter vooral nice to have, niet need to have. Wat veel belangrijker is dat het actieve koeling WBG's betreft ( die de russen niet beschikbaar hebben) en je in staat stelt veel verder te kunnen kijken.

Spain targets significant modernization program for Leopard 2E tank fleet by 2032

According to Defense 360° on February 12, 2024, the Spanish Army plans to launch a significant modernization program for its Leopard 2E Main Battle Tank (MBT) fleet, comprising 219 units. This initiative forms a significant part of the broader Fuerza 35 project, aimed at enhancing the technological capabilities of the Spanish military to effectively address emerging threats. The modernization efforts will cover areas including command, control, and communication (C3), firepower, mobility, protection, and maintenance.

The modernization program builds upon a contract awarded to Santa Bárbara Sistemas for the maintenance of Leopard vehicles, valued at 200 million euros over three years. This contract includes provisions for platform improvements, laying the groundwork for subsequent modernization phases.

Presently, the Spanish Land Force operates 239 Leopard 2E tanks dispersed across various mechanized brigades. Additionally, a contingent of Leopard 2E tanks contributes to NATO's Reinforced Forward Presence mission in Latvia. Spain also maintains a fleet of 98 Leopard 2A4 battle tanks, following the dispatch of ten 2A4s to Ukraine.

The Leopard 2E tanks share similarities with the Leopard 2A6, but feature components such as the LINCE Battle Management System (BMS) and Indra license-built Thermal Imaging (TI) optics. Initially aimed at addressing obsolescence issues and reducing maintenance burdens, the upgrade plan has evolved into multiple phases due to increased funding.

According to military sources, the program is currently in the preliminary stages of exploration, with a focus on conducting a thorough overhaul of the aging Leopard 2E, also referred to as Leopardo 2E. The proposed modernization efforts aim to match or surpass existing upgrades implemented in other European countries for similar battle tanks like the Challenger and Leopard 2A6.

Under a collaborative partnership between General Dynamics European Land Systems and Santa Bárbara Sistemas, several key enhancements are set to be implemented across the Leopard 2E fleet. These upgrades include the potential installation of various protective equipment, including the adoption of a new smoke protection system, the integration of a new frontal armor protection kit, as well as the installation of an active protection system (APS) coupled with a new early warning system, as well as advancements in both mine and improvised explosive device (IED) protection.

In addition to defensive enhancements, offensive capabilities will receive a boost with the installation of a new Rheinmetall L55-A1 120mm cannon, as well as the integration of a remotely controlled weapons system (RWCS) potentially armed with a Belgian FN Herstal MAG58 7.62x51mm machine gun. Additionally, a complete situational awareness system will also be installed. Other improvements include the installation of multispectral camouflage nets for improved stealth, as well as the implementation of new tracks to enhance mobility.

Zoiets inderdaad. Moeten er wel nieuwe torens in.

Ik zag het afgelopen week op wat fora voorbij komen. Er is ook een kans dat we de leopard1-120mm gaan zien, project 1A6 mag dan uit de kast.

Die optie met de Leonardo Hitfact 120mm ?

EODH SA in cooperation with KMW and DUMA is offering an upgrade package for Greek Leopard 1A5 tanks.

The upgrade is based on lessons learned from the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine. The tank should receive lightweight Active Reaction Armor (ERA), slat-armor around the engine compartment, and the possibility of installing a "cope-cage" on the turret. The proposal also involves replacing the engine with a new 1000hp engine (21.7hp per tonne at a combat weight of 46 tonnes) and reinforced suspension. In addition, the turret should house an RWS with a heavy machine gun, which should be integrated with the commander's Independent panoramic sight. The RWS may also be equipped with a C-UAS jammer.

It is offered to increase the tank's firepower by the possibility of launching anti-tank guided missiles (ATGM) and loitering munitions from the main gun, or/and by installing an ATGM launcher.

In addition, the overall ergonomics and situational awareness of the tank should be improved by installing new electronics, cabling, a new advanced Fire Control System (FCS), Gun Control System (GCS) and a new advanced C5I system.

De productie kan de behoefte niet bijbenen, dus het lijkt me een logisch gevolg indien er genoeg kanonnen zijn.

Misschien is dit wel een manier om extra Leo 1A5 naar Oekraïne te krijgen en dat Griekenland met "subsidie" nieuwe Leopard 2A8's aan gaat schaffen.
Griekenland heeft totaal 350+ aantal Leopard 2A4 en A6HEL, waarbij er sprake zou zijn van upgraden van de A4's naar versie A7HEL.
Misschien dan die A4's ook naar Oekraïne en deze vervangen door versie A8 ?

Griekenland heeft zijn eigen fabriek, ik weet niet in hoeverre deze in staat is om geheel nieuwe A8's te kunnen bouwen ?

Om volledig te zijn, bij de T14 Armata ligt de motor achterin, maar bij de T15 Armata ligt de motor voorin, dat komt omdat het Armata concept modulair is.

Modulair, geneuzel. De motor van de panzerhowitzer ligt ook voorin en die van de leopard2 achterin. Ook beiden hetzelfde onderstel.

Niemand is hier echt onder de indruk van de Armata. Het is vooral een van Westen afgekeken ontwerp waarvan er een begrijpelijk vermoeden heerst dat ook dit project vol ontwerpfout en consessies zit.

Goede uitgangspunten, maar qwwer foute conclusies van een onbekende auteur onder de lijst.

Er is geen 't-14' configuratie, ze doelen dan op de crew in een gepantserde doos in het onderstel en geen bemande toren. Dat concept bestaat al jaren. De T 14 heeft dat overgenomen.

En het is ook niet hetzelfde, want in dit ontwerp ligt de motor voorin. Bij de armata achterin.
