Helaas, ik had andere verplichtingen (is meestal zeker de moeite waard) desondanks had ik nog wat tijd om een aflevering van
"operation petticoat" te kijken.

Even voor de goede orde:   Ik wist dondersgoed dat het een typefout was           maar het was goedkoop scoren  wat ik niet kon laten liggen   mijn  welgemeende excuses.

Dit bericht klopt niet. Er komen zelfs uberhaupt geen vrouwen op. Dat is vooralsnog voorbehouden voor de Ohio klasse SSBN/SSGN's

Ik heb reeds eerder de opmerking geplaatst over overtollige ballast bij het plaatsen van berichten uit de media. Knippen/plakken gaat snel en is eenvoudig; maar het doet geen recht aan het onderwerp en maakt het bericht vaak minder leesbaar/begrijpelijk.
Ik heb bovenvermeld bericht dus maar aangegegrepen, om te trachten eea duidelijk te maken. Het citaat mijnerzijds zijn allemaal onderschriften bij foto's die niet geplaatst zijn. In dit geval is het onderwerp beter te volgen indien die citaten buiten de posting waren gehouden.
Ik wil voor alle duidelijkheid hieraan toevoegen, dat dit GEEN aanval is op de poster, in dit geval jurrien visser.
Maar ik wil u allen verzoeken bij het posten van berichten uit de media hiermee rekening te houden en overtollige ballast te verwijderen.

Michelle Obama sponsors first-ever ALL-FEMALE nuclear submarine named after her home state of Illinois

First Lady Michelle Obama has agreed to sponsor a future submarine named after her home state that will be staffed by an all-female crew.
The White House has announced that Mrs Obama has accepted an invitation to be the backer of the USS Illinois, a Virginia-class submarine being built in Groton, Connecticut, and Newport News, Virginia.

The new nuclear-powered boat is expected to join the fleet in late 2015.
Under construction: When completed, the Virginia-class USS Illinois will be 377 feet long, will weigh 7,800 tons and will be able to operate at more than 25 knots under water
It will cost about $2.7 billion to build the USS Illinois. The boat is being constructed by Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding in partnership with General Dynamics/Electric Boat Corp., according to a Defense Department press release cited by the Chicago Tribune.

When completed, the submarine will be 377 feet long, will weigh 7,800 tons and will be able to operate at more than 25 knots when submerged.
In her role as a sponsor, the First Lady will be involved in the life of the submarine and establish a special relationship with the ship's sailors and their families.

'It's an honor and a privilege to serve as sponsor of the USS Illinois,' the First Lady said in a statement. 'I'm always inspired by the service and sacrifice of the men and women of the Navy, as well as the families who support them.'

'This submarine is a tribute to the strength, courage, and determination that our Navy families exhibit every day.'

On Monday, Mrs Obama met with 24 women who were accepted into the Navy's nuclear submarine program and are serving on ballistic and guided missile submarines.
This is Mrs Obama's second foray into ship sponsorship. According to the White House, the First Lady also serves as a sponsor for the recently commissioned U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Stratton, based in Alameda, California.

Other First Ladies have sponsored Navy submarines, including Laura Bush, the wife of former President George W. Bush, who backed USS Texas, and Hillary Rodham Clinton, the wife of ex-President Bill Clinton, who sponsored USS Columbia.

This would be the second USS Illinois in the history of the U.S. Navy, the Tribune has reported. The first vessel by that name was a battleship completed by the Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co. on February 10, 1897, according to Navy records.

It was launched in October of 1898 and commissioned in September of 1901.
The ship saw service in World War I and was assigned to the New York Naval Reserve in 1924, where it remained for more than 30 years.

The ship was renamed Prairie State in 1941 to allow the name Illinois to be used for a proposed new battleship. It was sold for scrap to Bethlehem Steel in 1956. The battleship was never completed.

Mrs Obama's endorsement of the Illinois comes as female service members are pushing the Pentagon for a larger role in combat operations, according to The Hill.
In February, the Pentagon announced that it was opening up 14,000 new positions to women after a review of its combat policies.

However, the Defense Department has maintained a ban on women serving in units below the battalion level with primary combat roles and specialties like infantry or special-operations units.

The rule has prompted two female Army reservists to file a federal lawsuit on Wednesday in an effort to officially end the ban on women in combat, which they claim violates their equal protection rights under the Fifth Amendment.
