Ik vind het meer en combi tussen onze Fennek en Vector. Het besturingsgadget van de Vector zit er ook in.

Ik zie dit nog wel een voertuig voor onze Zuiderburen in combinatie met hun Scorpion samenwerken met de Fransen.     

Naar mijn mening veel te veel een gepushed moderne look met schuifdeuren.

En overall geen bijzondere spec's, de Vector komt qua specs en prestaties heel erg in de buurt van dit voertuig. Natuurlijk is het grote verschil dat de Scarabee compleet gesloten is en de Vector een meer open ontwerp heeft.

Maar ook op het GRF 5.12 platform van Defenture kan een vergelijkbare cabine ontworpen worden. Ook de hyride aandrijving moet geen groot probleem zijn. Ik zie niks bijzonders hier.

France's Arquus unveils Scarabée, a hybrid armored vehicle that moves like crab    ( maar even hier geplaatst in dit topic )

French manufacturer Arquus said its Scarabée armored vehicle has left the development stage and is ready for the global market.

At a March 10 press conference, CEO Emmanuel Levacher described the ride as "no longer just a pretty prototype, but the world's first truly hybrid armored vehicle."

Arquus, formerly known as Renault Trucks Defense, supplies 90 percent of the French Army's wheeled vehicles and is one of the three partners, together with Nexter and Thales, developing the Griffon and Jaguar armored vehicles that are the cornerstone of the French Army's Scorpion modernization program.

The rear wheels of the Scarabée provide independent steering so that it can not only make very tight U-turns (11m, or 36 feet) but, as the rear axle can be kept parallel to the front one in a turn, it can move simultaneously forward and sideways like a crab.

Unveiled to selected visitors during Eurosatory 2018, the vehicle was well hidden in the back of the Arquus stand, not much is still known about the Scarabee. However the TechnoDays allowed not only to see it for the first time moving on the ground, but also to discuss with the engineers who developed it and grabbing some more info.

In 2019 the Scarabee entered a second phase of its development, Arquus engineers now aiming at evaluating its performances and behaviour both on paved roads as well as cross country, such as its capacity of overcoming various types of obstacle. The Scarabee was developed using company funding, the work having been carried out in nine months by a dedicated team of six engineers and technicians. Although the programme started from a blank sheet, Arquus engineers looked at the company past programmes such as Panhard armoured cars, VBL and VB2L light vehicles, the Crab concept vehicle, exploiting lessons learned and trying to put together all the relevant features into the Scarabee design, the first drawings having appeared in September 2017 while in June 2018 the prototype vehicle was exhibited at Eurosatory.

The stealth aspect has been the key issue since the beginning, Arquus having analysed customer's mission cases and developed them in a so-called "agile" method; this started from assumptions, which were then validated leading to prototyping, this iteration circuit having allowed developing the vehicle in such a short time.

As said, the stealth aspect has been one of the design main features, the vehicle being only 1.90 meters high when suspensions are in the low position, ensuring 400 mm ground clearance, which becomes 500 mm in the high position for cross-country operations. The internal layout sees the driver at the front centre, with two seats scaled back right and left, a fourth rear seat on the centreline being reserved to a host, the basic combat crew being of three soldiers. Protection levels have not been unveiled, however a double floor is installed to decouple passengers as much as possible from under-belly blast events, while modular ballistic protection can be added, exploiting part of the available payload.

Personnel access the Scarabee via two sliding doors; these also include a small part of the roof while a step opens before the door slides backwards, all this in order to facilitate access. The step is hinged in the lower point and rotates outwards, while in travel order it closes over the lower part of the door, something that should also have beneficial effects in terms of blast protection. "The geometry of the step comes from that of the TGV, the French high speed train," an engineer tells EDR On-Line, as he took the idea while waiting for the train in a station. The door architecture allows a soldier to travel standing out of the vehicle while this is moving at low speed. With a GVW of 8 tonnes, the Scarabee has a payload of 2 tonnes, 60% more than the VB2L, the long chassis version of the VBL light armoured vehicle in service with the French Army and other nations. The vehicles maintains some growth potential, as it is fitted with 7-tonnes axels.

Ik snapte er al niks meer van want ajax vervangt toch al die warriors?

Nee, Ajax is het verkenningsvoertuig voor de cavalerie en vervangt de CVRT. De Warrior krijgt een nieuwe toren van Lockheed Martin met 40MM kanon, hetzelfde kanon als op de Ajax met de beruchte aanpassingen die nog steeds niet werken! Hadden ze maar het ontwerp van Thales met rust gelaten, hadden ze nu een werkend kanon zoals de Fransen. Maar de Britten willen altijd het wiel opnieuw uitvinden.

De ontwikkeling van de toren met 40 mm kanon voor de Warrior heeft al veel geld gekost. Vraag is wat kan een alternatief zijn , Boxer met .50?

Ajax wordt nu uitgeleverd aan de Britse landmacht, toren voor de Ajax wordt nog niet geaccepteerd

Army Tests New Active Protection For Abrams, Bradley, AMPV & Stryker

The Army's already installed off-the-shelf Israeli anti-missile systems on its M1 Abrams and tried similar tech on Bradley and Stryker. But what it really wants is a standardized yet customizable Modular Active Protection System (MAPS) it can install on a wide range of vehicles.

Between now and 2023, the Army will test new defenses against anti-tank missiles on a wider range of armored vehicles than ever before, from the massive M1 Abrams main battle tank to the lightly armored 8×8 Stryker.

A newly announced contract with Lockheed Martin also includes testing of what's called the Modular Active Protection System (MAPS) "base kit" on two middle-weight war machines. One is the heavily armed M2 Bradley troop carrier; the other is the Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV), basically a turretless utility variant of the Bradley.

The Army and Lockheed have already used the Bradley extensively for earlier development and testing of MAPS, including live-fire tests with anti-tank rockets and missiles in 2019. But Lockheed has only done preliminary work with MAPS on Stryker, the company's program manager, David Rohall, said in an interview. So the new contract will be the first integration and formal testing of the MAPS base kit on Stryker, Abrams, and AMPV.

Why does this matter?

The Army is exploring a plethora of anti-missile defenses for its armored vehicles. Many Abrams tanks already have the Rafael Trophy, a battle-tested Israeli countermeasure which physically shoots down incoming anti-tank rockets and missiles. The Army has also been working to integrate another off-the-shelf Israeli active protection system, Elbit's Iron Fist, onto the M2 Bradley, albeit with mixed success and delays. Bradley's a smaller vehicle than Abrams with less room and electrical power to add radar-controlled interceptors. And the service is trying out two slimmed-down systems, one by Rafael and one by Germany's Rheinmetall, on the Stryker. As the lightest of the vehicles in question, it has proven the hardest to protect.

De gemodificeerde Marder 1 A3 wordt momenteel geëvalueerd door het Duitse leger binnen het 401ste Gemechaniseerde Infanteriebataljon, en bevat de laatste wijzigingen die aan deze machine zijn aangebracht als onderdeel van de levensduurverlenging (Nutzungdauerverlängerung).

Deze upgrades omvatten de installatie van een camera met zicht naar voren en naar achteren, het Saphir 2.6MK thermische schuttervizier en aanpassing van het MELLS-systeem voor het afvuren van de Spike-raket. Deze apparatuur was onderhevig aan contracten met Rheinmetall en EuroSpike, een joint venture tussen Diehl Defence, Rheinmetall en Rafael.

Deze A3-versie moet zich aansluiten bij de A5-versie die is uitgerust met het MELLS-systeem voor de MILAN-raket en een nieuwe Liebherr-motor die het vermogen van 500 naar 750 pk brengt.

Deze versies zouden in dienst moeten blijven tot 2025, meer dan 40 jaar na de lancering van de Marder, om de Puma zijn volledige operationele capaciteit te laten bereiken en zo een capaciteitsverlies op het gebied van infanterie gevechtsvoertuigen te voorkomen.

US Army to test out MAPS (Modular Active Protection System) base kits on combat vehicles

The US Army will test out a new open-architecture processor designed to work with different active protection systems (APSs) on multiple ground combat vehicles. Under the Modular Active Protection System (MAPS) effort, Lockheed Martin has received an initial contract worth up to USD30 million to produce and deliver these base kits.
