CitaatRheinmetall and Elbit Systems have successfully conducted a live fire demonstration of an automated 155mm L52 wheeled self-propelled howitzer. The demonstration of the new system took place in early March 2023 at the Shivta firing range, in southern Israel. It was attended by high-ranking officials of the armed forces of the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands and Hungary.

DEFEA 2023: Israeli Elbit Systems PULS rocket & missile launcher attracts European armed forces

At the DEFEA 2023 defense exhibition in Athens, Greece, Israeli company Elbit Systems showcased the PULS, a new generation multi-caliber rocket and missile launcher system. Recently, the armed forces of Denmark and the Netherlands have opted for this cutting-edge technology.

On March 2, 2023, the Danish government announced the acquisition of two batteries of PULS artillery rocket launcher systems from Elbit Systems, including a package of rockets and missiles. On April 3, 2023, the Dutch Ministry of Defense followed suit, announcing the purchase of an undisclosed number of PULS MLRSs (Multiple Launch Rocket Systems).

The adoption of the Israeli-made PULS by these two NATO members indicates a potential shift in the standard for rocket launcher systems, potentially outperforming American counterparts like HIMARS and M270 MLRS.

Elbit Systems' Land rocket artillery solutions are tailored to modern artillery requirements and battlefield scenarios, offering a cost-effective solution for the precise firing of advanced rockets. Their autonomous advanced firing systems streamline mission management and ensure consistent and efficient fire support in all weather conditions. The flexible platforms are also compatible with local or third-party products and C4I systems.

The PULS autonomous artillery rocket system delivers a comprehensive and cost-effective solution for the precise firing of various advanced rocket types, boasting optimal responsiveness. Unlike traditional artillery, the PULS system can fire different ammunition types to various ranges from the same position, reaching distances of up to 300km.

The multi-purpose launcher has two PODS, each designed for a specific rocket type: the Accular 122mm (18 rockets) with a range of up to 35km, the Accular 160mm (10 rockets) with a range of up to 40km, the EXTR (4 rockets) with a range of up to 150km, and the Predator Hawk (2 rockets) with a range of up to 300km. PULS is capable of accurately and effectively neutralizing targets at all ranges, providing maximum responsiveness and firing flexibility without requiring special modifications.

A typical firing mission with PULS can be executed in under a minute. The system is fully adaptable to existing platforms, significantly reducing maintenance and training costs associated with introducing new vehicle platforms. The launcher was specifically designed to bridge the gaps between all artillery components: means of fire, sensors, and C4I.

Rheinmetall Defence and Lockheed Martin will cooperate on Rocket Artillery System

21 April 2023
Rheinmetall Defence and Lockheed Martin have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on tailored solutions that will provide Germany with a unique rocket artillery system that maximizes existing and combat proven components, produced in Germany.

For us, the letter of intent signed today is an agreement of strategic significance. The combination of Lockheed Martins proven capabilities and extensive know-how with Rheinmetalls experience in fabrication and production opens unique opportunities for both sides, declares Armin Papperger, chief executive of Rheinmetall AG. For Germany and Rheinmetall, the agreement offers the chance to secure key technologies and a significant share in the value added chain for Germany.

Under this collaboration, the companies will explore potential joint opportunities in areas such as research and development, production and other activities.

Lockheed Martin looks forward to collaborating and optimizing our combined resources to meet an immediate need for deterrence, said Lockheed Martin Vice President of Tactical Missiles, Paula Hartley. This is another step in our partnership with Rheinmetall bringing 21st Century Security solutions to Germany.

BAE Systems successfully tests guided projectile

In partnership with the U.S. Army, BAE Systems successfully fired a Sub-Caliber Artillery Long-Range Projectile with Enhanced Lethality, our concept for the U.S. Army?s XM1155 sub-caliber program, from a 155 mm XM907E2 58 caliber cannon and impacted a fixed target beyond ranges previously demonstrated by other precision guided projectiles fired from the same type of cannon.

The test at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, used a U.S. Army-designed sabot package and confirmed the projectile?s compatibility with the 155 mm Extended Range Cannon Artillery (ERCA) Howitzer Test Bed and propelling charges.

?This successful test confirms our Sub-Caliber Artillery Long-Range Projectile with Enhanced Lethality can defeat long-range targets and advance to follow-on testing out to double the range of existing guided projectile and with sensors to find fixed and moving targets of interest,? said Brent Butcher, vice president and general manager of Weapon Systems at BAE Systems. ?We are confident that the projectile is on track to provide the Army the best munitions solution for cannon artillery with a leap ahead capability that will bring a highly lethal, maneuverable projectile to soldiers on the battlefield.?

Our concept for the U.S. Army?s XM1155-SC program is an advanced, cannon-launched projectile under development for the defeat of fixed and moving targets in contested environments at more than double the range of existing cannon launched precision guided munitions (PGM). The latest PGM in the Hypervelocity Projectile family of munitions, our concept was developed to penetrate and destroy adversary defenses through increased range, advanced guidance, lethality, and survivability. The projectile addresses the Army?s modernization goals for a long-range precision fires munitions solution.

For the past several years, BAE Systems has invested in the innovation, development and testing of advanced long-range precision fires solutions and has completed more than 100 PGM tests. In early 2022, the predecessor to our XM1155-SC concept, BAE Systems? Extended Range Hypervelocity Projectile (HVP-ER) successfully destroyed a target at a range of more than 110 kilometers.

BAE Systems is currently under contract with the U.S. Army to develop and test the projectile as part of the Army?s XM1155 Extended Range Artillery Projectile program.
