Op de VN/UN moeten 'we' niet rekenen. De Russen (en mogelijks de Chinezen) zorgen wel voor een vetootje.

Dan blijft enkel nog over: sancties door 'het Westen'/NATO-landen... op zijn minst economische... en verder wacht ik wel af waarmee men nog op de proppen komt.
Mss nog wat meer vriendjes en kennissen van Poeting inreisverbod opleggen en hun 'assets' blokkeren (mss zelfs in beslag nemen).

Kattegat en Noordzee/Kanaal blokkeren, dan wel een aanmelding van geplande doorvaart (mss ook 72 u?) invoeren voor de Russen? Tit for tat...
Wanneer we die weg inslaan maken we duidelijk aan de Russen dat "we" aan de zijde van de Oekrainers staan (en daarmee heb ik geen probleem).
En wat als ze zich niet daaraan houden?
Gaan we dan ook rammen/waarschuwingsschoten lossen - of zelfs 'firing for effect'?
Dat zie ik ons nog niet snel doen met/tegen een Russisch marineschip (hoewel we in de Adriatische zee wel degelijk zo'n ROEs hadden voor blokkadebrekers)

US Defense Contractor Posts Job Offering For "Classified Contingency Operations" In Ukraine

The geopolitical analysis site SouthFront has unearthed from the pages of LinkedIn an incredible public job offering by a US defense contractor which reveals potentially sensitive information. The job posting mentions "classified Contingency Operations" in Ukraine and was posted a mere 15 days ago — just prior to last Sunday's incident between the Russian and Ukrainian navies in the Kerch Strait.

Writes SouthFront, the US-based defense contractor company "Mission Essential" accidentally revealed a US military specialist deployment in the combat zones in Ukraine via a Job Advertisement on LinkedIn.

Crucially, it's yet further evidence which disproves the years-long claims by Washington that the United States is not directly involved militarily in the Ukraine conflict. The public posting suggests US special forces operations are indeed active and ongoing as tensions with Russia soar.

Similar to the Atlantic Council's latest report on the independence of Eastern European countries, as well as the meeting between US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin, the posting came just days before the escalation in the Sea of Azov.

"Mission Essential" is a government contractor based in the Washington D.C. suburb of Herndon, VA primarily serving intelligence and military clients, and is also considered a leading provider of translation and interpretation services for the US government.

The preemptive job advert was posted on November 16th and seeks:

...linguist candidates who speak Ukrainian to provide foreign language interpretation and translation services to support classified Contingency Operations in support of the U.S. Military in Ukraine.

The formal place of work is Mykolayiv, Ukraine. The port city is also significant, because that is where the US "logistical" naval facility is currently under construction.

The advert also requires candidates to be able to fit in the local culture and customs, in addition to "the ability to deal inconspicuously with local populace if necessary." Which simply means that the interpreter needs to be able to hide the fact that he is not a Ukrainian citizen, at least partly.

Unsurprisingly, the individual needs to be able to serve in a combat zone "if necessary," in addition to being able to "live, work, and travel in harsh environments, to include living and working in temporary facilities as mission dictates."

Considering repeated claims by the US leadership that Washington is not involved in the Ukraine conflict, the vacancy posting is an operational security failure by Mission Essential. Most other vacancies posted by the company are for analysts and various linguistical and project management positions, almost predominantly in different military facilities in the US.

It is quite possible that these specialists would assist US military personnel deployed in or near the "combat zones" in Ukraine – i.e. Eastern Ukraine, and as it was expected since as early as November 16th – the Sea of Azov.

This is another piece that reinforces the notion that the "provocation by Russia" in the Sea of Azov could somehow have been premeditated.

However, it also appears that, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko's plans have appeared to, at least partially, backfire. "Partially," because he managed to institute martial law and make another step in his attempts to postpone elections in 2019, thus "democratically" holding on to power and not allowing the Ukrainian citizens to vote and most likely elect his rival and favored presidential candidate Yulia Tymoshenko.

De actie van de Russische marine staat niet op zichzelf. De aanwezigheid en activiteit van de Russen in de Zwarte Zee en het oosten van de Middellandse Zee neemt al tijden toe. De NAVO houdt dat nauwlettend in de gaten, en vergroot ook zijn aanwezigheid. Dat zegt marinecommandant Boudewijn Boots, die bij Nieuws en Co vertelt over zijn werk in dat gebied.

Op zich is het wel gerechtigd van de Russen om dit te vragen, denk ik, de route zal het merendeel door de 200 nmiles grens gaan van Rusland.
Maar voor de Rusland/Poetin is dit weer een extra vinger in de pap voor de claims omtrent het Noordpool gebied.

Als reactie op het Russische besluit moeten naar mijn mening alle NAVO landen een zelfde maatregel invoeren voor Russische oorlogsschepen.
Dat word pesten om het pesten maar we moeten toch iets terug doen, daarnaast moeten we duidelijk onze marine vergroten/versterken op een confrontatie met de Russen in alle mogelijke regio's van Middellandse tot de Pool gebieden.

Oorlogsschepen niet zomaar langs kust Siberië

MOSKOU - Moskou moet vooraf worden ingelicht als buitenlandse marinevaartuigen over de noordoostelijke doorvaart, de zeeroute langs de Russische noordkust of Siberië willen.

Dat heeft een hoge defensiefunctionaris in Moskou, Michael Mizintsev, beklemtoond. De verplichting Rusland op de hoogte te stellen gaat volgens hem komend jaar in, meldt het Russische persbureau Sputnik.

Het Kremlin wil met nieuwe wetgeving naar eigen zeggen af van ,,een juridisch vacuüm" over de zeeroute. De vaarroute is de kortste tussen het noorden van Europa en het Verre Oosten.

Maar het grootste deel van de route ligt zo ver noordelijk dat die hooguit twee maanden per jaar ijsvrij is. De verwachting is dat de aarde warmer wordt en de zeeroute dan steeds langer bruikbaar is.

Russische mannen mogen Oekraïne niet meer in

KIEV - Russische mannen tussen de zestien en zestig jaar mogen Oekraïne niet meer in. Dat heeft het hoofd van de grensbewaking vrijdag verklaard. In Oekraïne is de staat van beleg van kracht naar aanleiding van een incident in de Zee van Azov.

De Russische grensbewaking nam drie Oekraïense schepen in beslag die via de Straat van Kertsj de Zee van Azov waren binnengevaren. De bemanningen werden meegenomen en worden vastgehouden.

Ukraine President Asks Germany, NATO to Send Ships to Sea of Azov 

NATO members including Germany have been asked to send naval vessels to the Sea of Azov to back Ukraine against Russia. "Germany is one of our closest allies," President Petro Poroshenko said.

Ukraine's president on Thursday sought support from NATO states in the stand-off with Russia in the Sea of Azov off the Crimean coast.

"Germany is one of our closest allies, and we hope that states within NATO are now ready to relocate naval ships to the Sea of Azov in order to assist Ukraine and provide security," President Petro Poroshenko told Germany's Bild daily, suggesting Russia "wants nothing less than to occupy the sea."

Naming German Chancellor Angela Merkel as a great friend of Ukraine, Poroshenko said that "in 2015, she already saved our country with her negotiations in Minsk, and we hope she will once again support us so strongly, together with our other allies."

Poroshenko suggested that Russia and its president, Vladimir Putin, had major plans.

"Putin wants to bring back the old Russian Empire. Crimea, Donbas, he wants the whole country," Poroshenko suggested. "As a Russian emperor, as he sees himself, his empire cannot function without Ukraine, he sees us as a colony."

Putin defiant

For his part, Putin accused Poroshenko on Wednesday of orchestrating a "provocation" to boost his flagging popularity ratings before an election next year. The latest opinion polls in Ukraine show only 9 or 10 percent support for the Ukrainian president.

Putin defended his forces' actions in seizing three Ukrainian ships last weekend in the Sea of Azov. "They were fulfilling their military duty," he said. "They were fulfilling their lawful functions in protecting Russia's borders."

Poroshenko has imposed martial law in parts of Ukraine for 30 days.

'Dangerous'

The EU's top diplomat, Federica Mogherini, on Wednesday night issued a statement expressing "utmost concern about the dangerous increase of tensions" and dismay at the "unacceptable" use of force by Russia. It called on Russia to release the Ukrainian vessels and sailors it seized and ensure unrestricted sea access.

There was no mention of sanctions in the statement. The bloc is divided on imposing further measures against Moscow. Countries such as Italy, Greece, Belgium and Cyprus have been calling for a softer approach to Russia, as Germany and France have focused on measures to ease tensions. Only the three former Soviet states on the Baltic Sea — Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania — backed by Poland and the UK called for tougher language against Moscow.

US President Donald Trump told the New York Post on Wednesday that he "didn't like" what was happening. He called on European leaders, especially Merkel, to "get involved."

"Angela, let's get involved Angela," Trump said.
