NEWTOWN, Conn. --- Despite acute economic uncertainties, the Krauss-Maffei Wegmann Boxer MRAV (multirole armored vehicle) program remains on firm ground. The original combined German-Dutch procurement objective of 472 Boxer vehicles breaks down as follows:
-- German Bundeswehr: 272 vehicles (including 65 command post versions and 72 ambulance variants)
-- Royal Netherlands Army: 200 vehicles

The Bundeswehr accepted delivery of the first 36 serial-production Boxer vehicles in 2010. Deliveries to the Royal Netherlands Army commenced in 2012. Deliveries under this contract will continue through 2016.

In November 2014, the Bundestag budget committee approved the Bundeswehr procurement of an additional 131 Boxer vehicles. This will increase the Bundeswehr procurement objective from 272 to 403 Boxer vehicles.

The Boxer could potentially become a major source of export sales for the German defense industry. However, the German Bundestag maintains an aversion to approving export sales of war materiel to regimes it deems as repressive. Consequently, the export potential of the Boxer has become problematic for the German government.

Russia and the United Arab Emirates have expressed interest in the Boxer. In December 2012, Saudi Arabia officially requested "hundreds" of Boxers for the Royal Guard Regiment of the Royal Saudi Army.

Thus far, the Bundestag has delayed German government approval of such export sales. At some point, however, Germany must decide between supporting its sense of political morality and supporting its domestic defense industry.

KMW heeft nu wel zo enorm veel SP art. dat ze gewoon hun eigen markt opeten.

ik denk dat dit niet los staat van het twijfelachtige gedrag en defensiebeleid van de thuismarkt...de Duitse regering. Ook bij deze AGM mobile artillery module lees je steeds dat de Duitse regering het dan weer wel en dan weer niet..of weet het nog niet...wil aanschaffen. Het laatste wat ik er van begreep is dat ze overwegen een aantal PzH2000 kanonnen om te bouwen tot deze AGM. Misschien dat KMW daarom ook blijft komen met nieuwe toepassingen en combinaties.

Ik ben benieuwd of dat ding een beetje mobiel is. Gezien zijn hoogte lijkt het mij al lastig om naar een inzetgebied te vervoeren en de mobiliteit in glooiend terrein lijkt me ook vanwege de hoogte niet heel bijzonder.

Ik had begrepen dat hij in een A400M past...daarnaast kan de koepel ook los van het onderstel worden verplaatst (en ingezet?!). De hele opzet zal vast ook nadelen hebben...maar ik vind het als compromis en gezien hogere mobiliteit en bereik wel een interessant systeem.

Krauss-Maffei Wegmann has confirmed to the Eurosatory Daily that the ARTEC Boxer Multi-Role Armoured Vehicle (MRAV) has recently been fitted with its 155mm Artillery Gun Module (AGM), with initial firing trials scheduled to take place at the Meppen firing range later this year.

The AGM is a remote-controlled turret armed with the 155mm/ 52 calibre ordnance that is fitted to the combat-proven Krauss- Maffei Wegmann PzH 2000 tracked self-propelled artillery system deployed by Germany, Greece, Italy and the Netherlands and on order for Qatar.

The AGM is provided with 30 155mm projectiles and 145 modular charges, with six modules used for maximum range. The latter depends on the type of projectile, but a range of more than 40km can be achieved firing an unassisted projectile.

The projectiles and associated charges are loaded automatically, and the weapon is aimed and fired by remote control from the safety of the cab. A rate of fire of up to eight rounds a minute can be achieved. Time into and out of action is currently being quoted as just 30 seconds, meaning that the system cannot be engaged by counter-battery fire.

The AGM was originally successfully tested on a surplus Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) tracked chassis. This was followed by the Donar, which is the AGM integrated onto a new tracked hull developed by General Dynamics European Land Systems Santa Barbara Sistemas. The AGM could potentially also be integrated on other wheeled chassis or used in the static role for forward operating base defence.

Boxer is in production for Germany and the Netherlands. Eurosatory Daily sources have indicated that a number of export customers are interested in the Boxer for a wider range of missions, which could include the AGM version.
