Russische schepen zijn bezig om onderzeese datakabels en andere communicatie-infrastructuur op de Noordzeebodem in kaart te brengen. Dat zegt het ministerie van Defensie in reactie op vragen van het Friesch Dagblad.

Netherlands and Belgium boost ASW training

The Dutch and Belgian navies have added a significant boost to their ASW training capabilities with the addition of seven SEMA targets from RTsys.

The Royal Netherlands Navy is now using the SEMA ASW practice target following evaluation by the Netherlands Research Agency, TNO.

SEMA is designed and manufactured by French company RTsys and is already in service with a number of navies, including those of France and India.

Just over two metres long, SEMA is an autonomous, recoverable, acoustic target dedicated to ASW training and torpedo firing exercises. It simulates a range of different submarines and can be used to train airborne, surface or sub-surface ASW operators.

The Dutch Navy has ordered seven SEMA systems. It will retain four and three will be provided to Belgium under the terms of the joint maritime initiative that sees the two countries share a naval headquarters and jointly procure materiel. Deliveries of the remaining six devices will continue over the coming months alongside an operator training programme.

According to RTsys, SEMA is 'easy to deploy even from a RHIB; the navigation route is plotted with either waypoints or segments. Different types of training modes, such as passive, active and combined acoustics can be programmed.'

The training modes include: an acoustic echo-repeater (1-33kHz); five bands for active sonar frequency; two bands for active homing torpedo simulation; six narrowband (200Hz-38kHz); two broadband (450Hz-8kHz and 10-23kHz) and an acoustic recorder with data encryption.

Klopt en bij de Duitse marine worden de Schiebel  S100's vervangen door de UMS SKELDAR dus zo goed is de Schiebel  S100 niet.

Dat zegt echt 3x niks over of ie nou wel of niet goed is.

Prachtig die V-200 om mee te beginnen maar dit is toch voor de toekomst niet wat je moet willen op je fregatten of andere grote schepen? In de toekomst mogen we er toch vanuit gaan dat we naar het formaat VSR-700 of zelfs MQ-8B Fire Scout toe groeien.

Het dient ook niet ter als vervanging van een NH90. Nog altijd 10x beter dan geen heli.

maar je moet wat te wensen overhouden voor de toekomst ... 
maar ben met je eens dat je de ontwikkelingen goed moet bekijken, ik zie nog wel iets in een onbemande toevoeging in ASW taken, sonar en afwerpen van (mini) torpedo's.

Die Thales I-Master kun je ook op andere UAS of UAV's zetten, voor de nieuwe mijnenjagers zijn al UMS Skeldar V-200 aangeschaft twee verschillende UAS systemen zijn te duur voor de marine.

Thales, Schiebel partner to fill maritime ISTAR requirement   (iets voor de toekomst voor op de vMFF en de FuAD)



Thales and Schiebel have already conducted flight trials in the UK of an unmanned ISTAR platform.

Thales and Schiebel have joined forces to serve the growing appetite from navies for UAS-based ISTAR capabilities.

Their system comprises the Schiebel Camcopter S-100 UAS and integrated sensor-suite including the Thales I-Master radar, the Israel Aerospace Industries POP Ultra EO/IR sensor pod and IFF.

The system would give naval vessels the capability to perform persistent aerial surveillance, freeing up larger helicopters for more critical or more complex missions such as engaging potential threats or anti-submarine warfare.

The collaboration responds to emerging requirements for UAS that can find, fix, track and identify surface threats, including fast attack craft or USVs.

Conventional methods can mean fast attack craft are not spotted until it is too late to respond.

Sensors aboard the S-100 Camcopter, combined with Automatic Identification System data processed by the CarteNav AIMS mission system, allow operators to identify and detect potential threats quickly.

The I-Master system can detect contacts using synthetic aperture radar and Maritime Moving Target Indication modes. Once a track is detected, the EO/IR sensor is cued to identify the target.

High-definition imagery of the potential target is transmitted back to a ship's Combat Management System.

Schiebel argues that Camcopter S-100 offers a low-cost capability complementary to traditional aerial assets.

The system can contribute to the maritime picture of littoral and blue water operations.

The collaboration combines two proven systems in the Camcopter S-100 and I-Master. The S-100 has been deployed by more than 25 operators and completed in excess of 2,000 deck landings.

I-Master is in service with the British Army as part of the Watchkeeper UAS system. The system's maritime capabilities were proven during past RN exercises.

Dit citaat uit het artikel geeft toch wel aan dat er iets niet goed gaat toch...  en dan moeten we hopen dat de nieuwe fregatten op tijd operationeel kunnen zijn en niet "te laat" in opdracht gegeven worden zodat de levering ook later zal worden, waardoor er nog langer beperkt gevaren kan worden
