En het ''CIWS/RWS'' wat je ziet is de 30 mm Sea Snake van Rheinmetall. Dat is in elk geval wat er is aangeboden, maar het lijkt er op dat ze als model de Marlin WS 30 mm van Leonardo op het model geplaatst hebben.

Ik vind dit ook wel een 'gaaf' schip...
Natuurlijk weten we niet wat er binnenin zit en hoe het gebouwd is en uitgerust voor Fire Fighting en Damage Control in vergelijking met vMFF.

A shortlist was recently leaked for the future frigate of the Hellenic Navy. Naval News reviews in detail the three frigates at the top of this list.

In a previous article we reported about the alleged shortlist for the Hellenic Navy's frigate competition. With the DEFEA defense exhibition in sight, we are now taking a close look at the ships in the so called "1st category" of this shortlist.

Type 45 Destroyers to receive £500m 'firepower upgrade'
MBDA UK has been awarded an 11-year contract to integrate the Common Anti-Air Modular Missile, often referred to as Sea Ceptor, into the Type 45 destroyers' Sea Viper weapon systems.

Kort gezegd krijgen de Type 45's de komende jaren een 24 extra VLS cellen voor de Sea Ceptor voor de huidige geplaatste 48 A50 VLS cellen. Een opmerkelijke keuze omdat er op diezelfde plek ook een 16 cells Mk41 VLs gepland is wat weer ruimte bied aan maximaal 64 Sea Ceptor raketten of TLAM's.

Ik hoop voor de Britten dat ze de volledige optie invullen met 16 cells MK41 VLS Strike Length, dit zou een veel flexibeler VLS geven dan slechts 24 extra Sea Ceptors (in waarschijnlijk 6 extra cellen quadpacked).



Lockheed bied de 3 cells Extensible Launching System (exLS) waarbij je maximaal 24 Sea Ceptors kwijt kunt. Maar dit is wat mij betreft echt een budget oplossing, een 16 cells Mk41 is wel duurder maar wel veel flexibeler en ik ga er vanuit dat met de aankoop van 8x 24 cells Mk41 VLS voor het Type 26 er al een mooie prijs ligt. Verhoog dit aantal met nog eens 6x 16 cells en je hebt een geweldige deal voor zowel het UK als voor Lockheed Martin.

US Navy ditches futuristic railgun, eyes hypersonic missiles

The U.S. Navy has pulled the plug, for now, on a futuristic weapon that fires projectiles at up to seven times the speed of sound using electricity.

The Navy spent more than a decade developing the electromagnetic railgun and once considered putting them on the new, stealthy Zumwalt-class destroyers built at Maine's Bath Iron Works.

But the Defense Department is turning its attention to hypersonic missiles to keep up with China and Russia, and the Navy cut funding for railgun research from its latest budget proposal.

"The railgun is, for the moment, dead," said Matthew Caris, a defense analyst at consultancy Avascent Group.

The removal of funding suggests the Navy saw both challenges in implementing the technology as well as shortcomings in the projectiles' range compared to hypersonic missiles, he said.

The Navy's decision to pause research at year's end frees up resources for hypersonic missiles, directed-energy systems (like lasers) and electronic warfare systems, said Lt. Courtney Callaghan, a Navy spokesperson. Information gleaned during testing will be retained in the event the Office of Naval Research wants to pick up where it left off in the future, she added.

Italian Navy aircraft carrier to get first F-35B 'within a few days'

The Italian Navy aircraft carrier Cavour will receive its first F-35B this month after the vessel started certification work in the U.S. earlier this year to host the aircraft.

The fighter jet is undergoing final checks at the Cameri air base in Italy, home to the country's F-35 final assembly and checkout facility, which is due to turn out 90 F-35s for Italy, including 30 F-35Bs.

"The test flights have been completed, so within a few days [the aircraft] will be available for the Navy to collect and it will [be] delivered directly to the Cavour," said Rear Adm. Dino Torresi, the head of the Navy's air operations.

The Navy previously took delivery of two other F-35Bs, which were sent to the U.S. to join a training program for pilots and technical personnel. The new delivery makes it three out of a final order of 15 aircraft for the Navy. The "B" variant can land vertically and take off on short runways.

Meanwhile, the Cavour undertook certification work in the U.S. this year including sea trials with American jets.

New Developments In Greece : A Shortlist For The Fleet Modernization Program
Recent news from Greece points towards a shortlist concerning the selection of the future ships of the Hellenic Navy.

The shortlist ranked proposals in 3 categories. The first is made of the ones who were mature and well-rounded enough to pass. The second is for the proposals which still require a few adjustments to make the cut and finally, the last regroups the ones that are out of the competitions for various factors.

Ja, ik moet wel zeggen dat ik het complete ontwerp lelijk vind maar die boeg heeft wel iets

Hierbij ook een beeld van de Klasse 424, de vervangers van de Type 423 Oste class vlootdienst schepen (SIGINT/ELINT). Van dit nieuwe schip zullen er 3 gebouwd worden door de Lurssen werf.
