Vietnam will close its own 4000-ton battleship

( Defense of Vietnam ) - The documentary "Vision 4.0 of Vietnamese brand ships" revealed information about the ambition of Vietnam's military shipbuilding industry.

In the interview about 189 Shipbuilding Company, Major General Doan Hung Minh, - Vice Chairman of General Department of Defense Industry said:
"... certainly in the near future, Z189 will rise to build ships of larger scale. There are even a few times more water stretch than the ships that are currently built.
On those ships, it is sure to integrate high-tech weapons, high-tech weapons, to ensure our combat capability. It is not only the combat on the water but also the underwater operation. "

Besides, Senior Lieutenant Colonel Tran The Vy - Director of the Z189 Factory further clarified:
"... with 30 years of cumulative shipbuilding experience and the active research and design, manufacturing and application of 4.0 technology and science achievements of the world into practice.

To build the factory to become an advanced, modern shipbuilding facility, on a par with the area, capable of closing grams of large military ships, water stretching to 4,000 tons ".
Based on the above statements, we have enough basis to expect the bright future of Vietnam's military shipbuilding industry, the foreseeable future will create a multi-purpose surface water battleship twice as large. Gepard 3.9.

The current concern is the 4,000-tonne water-warship class that the Z189 plant specifically refers to, which is a design of Russian, European origin, or Vietnamese self-study. save in the country.
However, it should be noted that the Z189 factory is the basis of close cooperation with the Dutch shipbuilding group Damen, which is still executing many layers of patrol boats, cargo ships, amphibious ships ... according to the set. Their design, so the high probability of this 4,000-ton battleship is also Damen's product.

After reviewing some of Damen's products, it is most suitable for the leaders' statements Z189 and General Department of Defense Industry is the Crossover 115 Security class with a load of 4,500 tons of full load and 115 length. m. This class of battleships has a very advanced module design that allows to customize the weapon configuration according to user requirements. During the patrol mission, it carried only a 76.2 mm Oto Melara Super Rapid gunboat with two Millennium CIWS anti-aircraft guns of 35 mm size.

However, the empty space in front of the ship can immediately integrate the multi-purpose vertical launcher of Mk 41 of the US or UKSK, the radar tower is easily attached to a modern AFAR active phase array radar. When fully armed, Crossover 115 Security will become an ultra-modern missile defense ship with the power of light across the destroyer. With the ability to flexibly customize equipment and close cohesion with the Z189 Factory for many years, this is the brightest candidate for the future 4,000-ton "made in Vietnam" class battleship.

Damen's reaction to suspending the auction of corvettes

Damen learned that the tender procedures for the Essential Endowment Program "Multipurpose Corvette" were suspended by the Ministry of National Defense. We make the following statements on this subject:

- Until this moment, no official information was received from the Romanian authorities regarding the suspension of the auction.

- This will further delay the entire program of renewal of the Romanian naval fleet. We await further communication from the Romanian authorities on the auction and about this suspension. We are available for further clarification, and Damen will cooperate fully and transparently with the Romanian authorities on this matter, if requested.

- We fully support the Romanian authorities in conducting the investigation on the information repeatedly presented by a part of the Romanian press and which could be considered confidential.

- We understand the need for verification procedures and fully support the Romanian authorities, reaffirming that Damen's bid is strictly in compliance with the tender procedures and the rules in force.

- Damen states that his offer is fully in line with the entire renewal program of the Romanian Naval Forces fleet. We are confident in our extensive experience at the Damen Galati shipyard, where we offer a proven product that is technologically advanced and built according to the deadlines and the specified costs:

o With a history of over 90 years, the Damen Shipyard Group started its activity in Galaţi 25 years ago as a partner, and later as the main shareholder. The Damen Group has invested heavily in the shipyard, making Damen Galati one of the most successful privatizations in Romania's history. More than 1300 vessels were built in Galaţi during the 125 years of activity of the yard.

o Damen Galati Shipyard has built a successful story in the last 25 years. Since we joined the Damen Group, we have built over 400 ships, including 30 military ships serving over 13 navies and coast guards around the world, including NATO and EU member states. Galati Shipyard became one of the largest exporters of military products in Romania, the Damen Group benefiting extraordinarily from the experience found here, the managers being local and relying on a long history of shipbuilding.

o Damen Galati became the most important shipyard of the Defense and Security Division of the Damen Naval Group. Also, Damen Galati is the only shipyard in Romania with experience in building military vessels for more than 20 years.

- This is the fourth year of procedures since Romania began negotiations for a new naval defense capacity, and 2019 would have been the year that we would have celebrated the launch of the first ship instead of this suspension. Thus, instead of launching the first Sigma ship for the Romanian navy, the Romanian engineers at the Damen Galati Shipyard celebrated the launch of Sigma Corvette for the Mexican Marine at the end of last year, where they made a direct contribution. This was the 10th Sigma ship built by the Damen Group.

- Damen believes that his offer is the most appropriate solution for Romanian naval needs: it contains weapons systems in the United States that are interoperable at the level of the NATO alliance, bringing together the best defense industry companies in the United States of America (BOEING , RAYTHEON, GENERAL DYNAMICS) and the European Union. These can be built in Romania by Damen Galati in an existing naval shipyard, with local labor force and Romanian engineers who could start the works immediately after signing the contract and finalize all this by observing all deadlines.

- Damen is fully committed to meeting Romania's expectations, being a hopeful partner, on the basis of the best technical solution, through the only Romanian naval shipyard that has built 30 ships for naval forces and coastal guards in the world.

Bagira wins Netherlands CBRN contract

[img]https://www.janes.com/images/assets/065/86065/p1736531_main.jpg[/imgl]

Bagira Systems and Van Halteren Defence have jointly been awarded a contract by the Netherlands Ministry of Defence for the simulator for its national chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) training centre at Bredero barracks in Vught.

The contract, the value of which was not disclosed, is to supply, operate, and maintain the simulator for 15 years. The centre provides CBRN training for military personnel and first responders, and the simulator will support instruction and training in dealing with various CBRN scenarios.

Leveraging Bagira's core 'Digital Dust' technology, the new simulator is based on the company's B-ONE 3D imagery software. It includes elements that together enable interactive training in a realistic and dynamic environment. B-ONE provides a standardised skeleton and interchangeable animation, enabling the creation and presentation of different scenarios using the B-SCENE scenario editor.

The simulator can be used in conjunction with live training, injecting CBRN events, simulating the spread of hazardous substances, and providing the correct feedback to simulated monitoring devices, which can be implemented as applications on mobile devices. All levels of command and CBRN defence functions can be exercised, with dynamically changing threats and environmental conditions.

Thales details POLA role

Thales has revealed the full scope of the mission suite it is supplying for the Mexican Navy's new Patrullera Oceánica de Largo Alcance (POLA) vessel ARM Reformador .

Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding (DSNS) was awarded a contract for the POLA programme in early 2017. The ship is a variant of DSNS's SIGMA 10514 frigate family, an earlier version of which was built for the Indonesian Navy's SIGMA 10514 Perusak Kawal Rudal (PKR) guided missile frigate programme.

The construction of Reformador has followed the model set by the PKR programme, with module construction split between the Netherlands and Mexico. Two of the six ship modules were built by DSNS in Vlissingen, Netherlands, while the remaining four were constructed at the Astillero de Marina No.

EXPERTISE APPLIED TO THE NAVAL SECTOR

About 10 months ago, the Brazilian Navy launched the Request for proposal (RFP) notice for the acquisition of four Tamandaré class Corvettes. Aiming at strengthening the Brazilian naval industry and ensuring the independence of the Force for future upgrades and maintenance of these vectors throughout its life cycle, this auction notice included important requirements. Through critical technologies transfer adding new knowledge to the sector, or by using local content to guarantee the participation of the Brazilian industry, the project will also allow Brazilian economic development.

It is in this last category – local content, whose index according to BNDES methodology should reach no less than 30% of national technology for the first ship and 40% for all other ships of all components and systems of the corvettes project – that Akaer takes part of the project. Acting as a strategic defense company in the Consortium Saab, Damen and Wilson Sons Shipyard, to contribute to the fulfillment of this requirement of the notice, Akaer will be responsible for the manufacture, assembly and delivery of subsystems that will be installed in the Corvettes.

Besides participating in one of the Navy's most recent strategic projects, being at the Corvettes Project is aligned with the company's strategic planning for diversification, and this project means joining a new sector – the naval sector. In recent years, Akaer dedicated itself to the aeronautical sector, but this project opened the perspective to return to the company's origin, founded with the goal to overflow the technological advances of the aeronautical sector to other sectors. Not to mention that the original formation of Akaer's founder and CEO, Cesar Augusto Teixeira Andrade e Silva, is naval engineering.

"A project like Tamandaré Corvettes will be an important showcase for Akaer but the greatest satisfaction is to be able to apply all our knowledge and technology developed over the years in a new area, which is naval," – Andrade e Silva.

The company already identifies what needs to be worked through, after all, the team must undergo training to even understand technical jargons, terms and symbols of the area. An immersion in the naval environment will be part of the strategy to efficiently serve this new market.

"On one hand, we have the advantage of already having a much consolidated knowledge for the aeronautical environment, but on the other we will deal with a new platform, with another dynamic in another environment. These are new challenges that will contribute a lot to our growth ", reinforces the company CEO.

WEG AND PRAXIS SIGN MOU TO SUPPORT DAMEN SAAB BID FOR THE BRAZILIAN NAVY

On December 13th, Brazilian company WEG Electric Equipment and Dutch company Praxis Automation Technology, both leading companies within their respective fields, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the bid of Damen Shipyards Group and Saab for the construction of four corvettes for the Brazilian Navy. For the Tamandaré class corvettes bid, Praxis and WEG will be partners for the supply of the complete Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS).

The signing took place at Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding in the Netherlands and was witnessed by staff from Damen, Saab and its strategic Brazilian partner Wilson Sons Estaleiros.

Praxis and WEG already have a track record of cooperation in Brazil, with the two companies jointly installing equipment on board more than 40 vessels built by Wilson Sons Estaleiros and designed by Damen, including the first diesel-electric PSV in Brazil. Praxis develops, manufactures and delivers innovative automation and navigation equipment, while WEG is a Brazilian technology company that among many other activities is active in the area of industrial automation.

With this MoU, the Damen Saab Tamandaré consortium is ensuring another strong partnership with two leading Brazilian companies, which will be part of the project to build four corvettes in Brazil. It proves the intention of the consortium to present a credible and reliable offer to the Brazilian Navy with a proven ship design (SIGMA 10514), a world class Combat Management System and strong partnerships with Brazilian companies for the construction and 'through life support' of the future Tamandaré class.
