We mogen hopen dat Egypte niet in een "Syrie" of "Libie" verandert dat nog eens potentieel 90mln vluchtelingen kan opleveren

En resulteert in complete destabilisatie van de hele MENA regio.
In zeker zin is Egypte gewoon too big to fail.

The Mistral is Coming to Egypt: Adding a Sea Base to Its Combat Capability

2016-02-12 According to an article published by our partner defenceWeb, Egypt is to receive both Mistral class ships later this year.

The Egyptian Navy will take delivery of its two Mistral class landing helicopter dock (LHD) vessels in June and September this year from French shipyard DCNS.

According to AFP, citing an unnamed source, the two Mistral class LHDs will be delivered to the Egyptian Navy in June and September respectively. Contacted by Navy Recognition a DCNS representative would not comment on the delivery dates but explained Egyptian sailors will be in France by the end of March to achieve their formation.

The French presidency just announced that Egypt will acquire the two Mistral LHDs originally intended for Russia. "President of the French Republic met with the President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi. They agreed on the principles and terms of the purchase by Egypt of two Mistral class amphibious vessels" according to an official statement by the French presidency.

In early August 2015, France and Russia reached an agreement for the non-delivery of the two Mistral class LHDs originally ordered in June 2011. It was officially announced in September 2015 that Egypt would acquire the two Mistral LHDs originally intended for Russia.

The Egyptian Navy took delivery a FREMM Frigate from French shipyard DCNS last year. Moreover, a year ago, DCNS won a contract to supply the Egyptian Navy with four Gowind corvettes. Slated in 2017, the delivery of the first corvette, which is developed and realized at the DCNS Shipyard in Lorient, will occur less than four years after the signature of the contract. DCNS started cutting metal for the very first unit on April 16th 2015.

Mistral class vessels are capable of carrying 16 helicopters, four landing craft, 70 armoured vehicles and 450 soldiers.

Although there apparently are still some technical details to work out, the resale contract and adapting old projection and command of Russian to Egypt is on track. For this it was necessary for Cairo to ensure payment of the order, which is "ruby set on the nail," the French defence minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian said in January.

While the adaptation work of former PCB Vladivostok and Sevastopol are in progress, the second is in dry dock in Saint-Nazaire for a refit prior to her return to sea.

A hundred and eight Egyptian sailors will come to Saint-Nazaire to take over the vessels with the assistance of DCNS and STX France and DCI Navfco for tactical training. The first Egyptians should already be in the Loire estuary. They will form the implementation crews for four CTM type landing craft and two fast catamarans NG type L-CAT.

Delivery of the first Egyptian PCB is planned for early summer, before joining her sister ship to Alexandria three months later.

The Egyptian Armed Forces announced on 28 January that it had received another three Dassault Rafale multirole fighters.

It released photographs and a video showing the three aircraft landing at Cairo West Air Base and lining up with the three that were delivered in October 2015. Like the first batch, all the new ones are two-seat aircraft.

It was announced in February 2015 that Egypt had ordered 16 Rafale B two-seat and eight Rafale C single-seat aircraft. Deliveries have been expedited by transferring ones that were already being produced for the French Air Force.

Egypt to get first Ka-52 helicopters in 2017

Jeremy Binnie, London - IHS Jane's Defence Weekly | 19 January 2016

Egypt has apparently ordered 46 Ka-52 attack helicopters for its air force, but has yet to order the Ka-52K variant for its navy. Source: Russian Helicopters

The first Kamov Ka-52 Alligator attack helicopters being built for export will be delivered in 2017, according to a report posted on the official website of Russia's Primorsky Krai region, the home of the Progress Arsenyev Aviation Company that makes the helicopter.

The report said the export order was awarded to Progress by the state arms export agency Rosoboronexport in October 2015. It did not identify the customer, but Egypt is the only country known to have ordered the Ka-52 other than Russia.

"A big contract for the supply of 46 Kamov Ka-52 Alligator helicopters has been signed with Egypt by JSC Rosoboronexport," Alexander Mikheyev, the general director of Russian Helicopters, announced in a New Year statement, according to multiple Russian media reports.

Russia to Supply Egypt with 46 Ka-52K Naval Attack Helicopters

Sputnik news | December 30, 2015

MOSCOW --- Russia has struck a deal with Egypt to deliver 46 Kamov Ka-52K navalized attack helicopters, the director-general of the state-run Russian Helicopters aircraft maker said Wednesday.

Ka-52Ks were designed for French-made Mistral helicopter carriers that were to join the Russian Navy last year, before France cancelled the deal over Ukraine. The warships are now being bought by Cairo.

"In the outgoing year, new contracts were signed with Russian and foreign helicopter users," Russian Helicopters Director-General Alexander Mikheev said in a statement published in the corporate magazine.

He added that a major sale of Kamov naval helicopters were part of the deals that Russia's state arms exporter Rosoboronexport had inked in 2015. The Ka-52K is a naval modification of the Kamov Ka-52 Alligator. It has reinforced landing gears intended for ship-borne attacks.

Russia and France officially terminated the 1.2 billion euro (some $1.28 billion at current exchange rates) contract on the delivery of the warships in August following French President Francois Hollande's suspension of the supply late last year over the Ukrainian conflict.

In October, Cairo and Paris signed a contract for Egypt's purchase of the warships originally built for Russia.

Egypt's first Type 209 sub launched

ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) announced on 10 December that the first of four Type 209/1400 submarines it is building for Egypt at its Kiel yard has been launched and named S 41.

This is the first time the German company has acknowledged the Egyptian Type 209 submarine contract, the existence of which was confirmed by Rear Admiral Osama Ahmed el-Gundi, the chief of the Egyptian navy staff, in August 2012.

The press release provided no additional details about the submarines or their delivery dates.

Ongelooflijk...
