Ik kwam wat afbeeldingen van een eerdere concept ontwerp van de Portugeese Marine tegen.
Het ontwerp van Damen ziet er wel iets anders uit, opbouw is een stuk groter en inham met kraan ontbreekt. Helemaal geen dekkraan meer aanwezig om lasten te hijsen.

Ja, die gedachte had, heb ik ook wel, maar nog te weinig info over het schip.
Volgens mij geen bewapening en geen dock, wel een soort slipway. En wat voor (landings)vaartuigen kunnen meegenomen worden ?
Wel een ski-jump, interessant voor gebruik van UAV,drones.

Het huidige ontwerp is niet geschikt voor onze LPX plannen, maar misschien kan er wel gekeken worden ''binnen de familie'' van dit ontwerp naar mogelijkheden voor een dok en andere NL wensen.

Het schip draagt geen landingsvaartuigen maar er is wel ruimte voor Rhib's en USV's die via de slipway gelanceerd en terug gehaald kunnen worden.

De skijump zit er inderdaad op, maar ik denk zomaar dat dat weinig gaat toevoegen op de korte termijn. Misschien in de toekomst als er UAV's zijn die daar gebruik van maken maar nu nog niet.

En bewapening / sensoren is natuurlijk een kleinigheidje, dat zit er zo op 

Nu maar hopen dat de Portugezen ook nog wat budget hebben liggen voor nieuwe fregatten, bijvoorbeeld een 4 tal ASWF's.

Portuguese Navy signs contract with Damen Shipyards for innovative Multi-Purpose Vessel



24 November 2023 – The Portuguese Navy has contracted Damen Shipyards Group for the design, construction and outfitting of a state-of-the-art Multi-Purpose Vessel. The contract was signed by Director of Ships Rear Admiral Jorge Pires and Damen Shipyards Group CCO Jan Wim Dekker. The project follows a European tender process and is funded by the European Union's Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) that is part of NextGenerationEU (the economic recovery package to support EU member states affected by the COVID-19 pandemic).

Damen has developed this 107-metre long Multi-Purpose Vessel based on the specific requirements of the Portuguese Navy. The resulting design is truly a multi-purpose platform, with primary mission roles including oceanic research, search and rescue, and emergency relief in addition to maritime safety and naval support operations. To this end, the vessel will be capable of deploying unmanned drones and helicopters.

For the oceanic research and monitoring scope of operations, the vessel will be equipped with laboratories and accommodation for scientific staff. For the naval support aspect, the Damen-built vessel will have numerous design features to enable such operations. This will comprise a stern ramp for UUVs and USVs (Unmanned Underwater Vehicles and Unmanned Surface Vehicles) as well as a 94×11-metre flight deck and hangars for UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles).

The new vessel will be classified by the Portuguese Navy as a Multifunctional Naval Platform (PNM). To fully match this vessel designation, Damen has collaborated closely with the Portuguese Navy to incorporate future-versatility into the design. This consists of a 650m2 cargo deck and space for twelve 20-foot containers. Modular systems such as containerised hospital facilities, hyperbaric chambers, or ROV equipment can therefore be installed as required.

"We are proud to have been selected to build this spectacular vessel for the Portuguese Navy," Damen Shipyards Group CEO Arnout Damen said after the contract signing ceremony. "We are convinced that this vessel will represent a major milestone in the naval sector. It is the first of its kind, with the highest capabilities to create awareness, deploy and manage all types of drones. This vessel's multi-purpose functionality will enable the Portuguese Navy to develop the most demanding missions and at the same time the ability to perform research activities in the deepest areas of the ocean. It also underlines Damen's firm relationship with the Portuguese Navy and shows a further example of European defence industry cooperation"

The Portuguese Navy currently has two Damen-built vessels in service. These are the 122-metre long Bartolomeu Dias class multi-purpose frigates NRP Bartolomeu Dias and NRP D. Francisco de Almeida. Both vessels originally served in the Royal Netherlands Navy (as Karel Doorman class frigates) before undergoing a substantial modernisation programme by Damen and the Dutch Command Materiel and IT (COMMIT) agency.

Zo ver had ik filmpje nog niet bekeken zou mooi zijn verder ontwikkelen met onze Marine aanpassen aan de Nederlandse en Britse wensen alleen bij de Portugesen zit er geen bewapening op maar ik denk omdat het project ondersteund word met Europees geld

Six months on from the Defence Strategic Review (DSR) recommending that the Australian government "accelerate" its procurement of new landing craft for the Army, it's finally selected an industry team to deliver the vessels.

Norway And Germany To Develop New 3SM Supersonic Strike Missile

The Norwegian government has announced it is starting the development of the next generation strike missile, in cooperation with Germany and Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (KONGSBERG) as the lead industrial partner.

KONGSBERG has developed today's Naval Strike Missile (NSM) and will take the lead role in developing the new naval strike missile, which will complement the NSM, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement. The new missile will be known as SuperSonic Strike Missile (3SM) Tyrfing and is scheduled to be ready in 2035.

"The development of Norwegian missiles is a success story. The Norwegian defence industry, with KONGSBERG at the forefront, has unique expertise and produces world-class missiles. The project will continue to extend this strategically important expertise, so we can continue to develop missiles that are attractive to other NATO countries and close allies."

Today's NSM was developed in the early 2000s and delivered to the Norwegian Armed Forces from 2011 to 2015. Today, the missile has been selected by 13 countries. The development of the new missile is a collaborative project between Norway and Germany and is planned to be deployed on naval vessels in both countries.

The government is proposing to initiate and complete the initial design phase of the project, before returning to the Norwegian Parliament with a recommendation to continue the project.
