Op 18 augustus 2020 werd tevens een bilaterale overeenkomst getekend tussen het Verenigd Koninkrijk en België om de mogelijkheden van samenwerking te gaan onderzoeken bij de inzet van de SktGuardian die door de Britten is omgedoopt tot Protector RG.

Belgian SkyGuardian UAS contract awarded

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc (GA-ASI) has been awarded USD188.9 million related to the production and delivery of its MQ-9B SkyGuardian unmanned aircraft system (UAS) to Belgium.

The Foreign Military Sales (FMS) award, announced by the US Department of Defense (DoD) on 14 August, provides for four of the medium-altitude long-endurance (MALE) unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), two fixed ground control stations (GCSs), as well as spares and support. Work is expected to be complete by 31 March 2024.

News of the contract comes 17 months after the US State Department approved in March 2019 the sale of the SkyGuardian, previously known as Certifiable Predator B, to Belgium.

As noted in that approval, Belgium plans to use the SkyGuardian for intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance (ISTAR) in support of national, NATO, United Nations-mandated, and other coalition operations.

The SkyGuardian UAS differs from the Reaper on which it is based primarily in that it can be used in controlled airspace. Belgium has been approved to procure four to satisfy its ISTAR requirements. (GA-ASI)

Contracts For Aug. 14, 2020

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc., Poway, California, has been awarded a not-to-exceed $188,866,819 undefinitized contract action for Belgium MQ-9B SkyGuardian procurement.  This contract provides for four MQ-9B unmanned air vehicles, two Certifiable Ground Control Stations, spares and support equipment.  Work will be performed in Poway, California, and is expected to be completed March 31, 2024.  This contract involves Foreign Military Sales (FMS) to Belgium and is the result of a sole-source acquisition.  FMS funds in the amount of $94,341,260 are being obligated at the time of award.  Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, is the contracting activity (FA8689-20-C-2013).

On thursday, july 30th, the first @BeAirForce #A400M #Atlas has executed its maiden flight at the @AirbusDefence facility in Seville. The aircraft performed a full Production Aircraft Test Manual (PATM) flight test profile in the late afternoon. CU soon @15WAirTransport !

Even terzijde: er is me bevestigd dat zowel de F-16 die verloren ging bij de crash in Frankrijk als die die uitbrandde bij de 'oeps' op Florennes is vervangen door toestellen die 'in cocon' stonden.

Haha de oeps.
Mooi om te zien dat er aan de sterkte in getallen niets is verandert.
