Navantia floats out Isaac Peral S-80 class submarine   (S-80 ligt in het water)

According to information published by the Twitter account of Navantia on May 10, 2021, the Spanish company floated out Isaac Peral S-80 class submarine in Cartagena, Spain

The S-80 Plus class (or Isaac Peral class) is a Spanish class of four submarines in production by the Spanish company Navantia in its Cartagena shipyard for the Spanish Navy. Navantia expects to deliver the first S-80 Plus to the Spanish Navy in 2021.

The S-80's air-independent propulsion (AIP) system is based on a bioethanol-processor consisting of a reaction chamber and several intermediate Coprox reactors. Provided by Hynergreen from Abengoa, the system transforms the bioethanol (BioEtOH) into high purity hydrogen. The output feeds a series of fuel cells from UTC Power company.

The S-80 Plus-class submarines have a full load displacement of 3,200 tons, a total length of 81.05 m (265.9 ft), a beam of 11.68 m (38.3 ft) and a draught of 6.20 m (20.3 ft). With a cruising speed of 12 knots, the S-80 Plus-class submarines offer a range of 8,000 nm. The submarine can accommodate 32 personnel (plus 8 troops).

The S-80 Plus-class submarine is equipped with 6 × 533 mm torpedo tubes with DM2A4 torpedoes and Harpoon missiles.

Die glimmende buitenlaag is toch nirt de bedoeling? Waar zijn akoestische tegels of een reflecterende/singaal refucerende coating.

Ik heb een aantal jaar geleden weleens gehoord dat DuPont een lak of coating heeft waardoor een onderzeeboot onderwater 1 knoop harder vaart. Ik ben op internet hierna aan het zoeken geweest maar heb dat tot nu toe hier geen info over kunnen vinden.

Ze zullen er wel over hebben nagedacht. Viel me alleen op.

Uhh, de oorspronkelijke boot was al 75 - 100 ton te zwaar.  Die betegeling kost ook flink gewicht.  Door de flinke verlenging heeft het Type 80 'Plus' een niet zo goede Lengte / Diameter verhouding meer.  Heeft nogal negatieve invloed op de prestaties gehad.

En volgens mij glom de eerste Barracuda ook bij zijn presentatie.

Het is Spanje eindelijk gelukt! De eerste boot gaat het water in op 22 april. Op de website van Navantia hebben ze een hele pagina gemaakt met alle info rondom de boten.
Opvallend genoeg hebben de boten (slechts) 12 opslag plekken voor torpedo's, harpoons en/of Tomahawk kruisraketten (fitted for but not with) en nog eens 6 buizen. Relatief weinig voor mijn gevoel.

First version of russian submersible patrol ship Strazh    ( Tja....  .... Ik weet niet wat ik ervan moet denken ?  )

According to information published on April 12, 2021, Rubin unveils the first version of a submersible patrol ship combining the benefits of a submarine and a surface patrol vessel. The concept named the Sentry (Border and Offshore Submersible Sentry, BOSS) is intended for foreign customers.



Offshore patrol vessels are relatively inexpensive, which makes them affordable for countries with constrained budgets. Their operation is profitable because they can be used to prevent illegal trade, poaching and other law infringements. Ships of this type are multi-functional and can be used as patrol ships, and as rescue or research vessels as well. Equipment for the new ship comes mostly from surface ships and aircraft and is commercially available.

The ability to dive provides the ship with two advantages at a time: to discreetly observe inflictors (and to catch them red-handed) and evade harsh weather conditions without aborting the mission. A submersible ship can be used as a classical submarine, for intelligence, surveillance & reconnaissance (ISR), as well as other missions. Seabed research capability of the submersible patrol ship would be wider than those of a surface ship. It can also serve as an inexpensive training vessel to give crews seagoing experience and prepare the infrastructure before purchasing classical submarines at a later stage.

In its architecture and outline, the ship resembles Whiskey-class submarines (Project 613) - the most numerous series of the Soviet submarines, very popular with foreign customers. Basic parameters are also much the same, with the surface displacement around 1000 tons, overall length 60 to 70 metres depending on the configuration, and the crew up to 42 people including the boarding team. Large pressure-proof containers can be used to store RHIBs for boarding teams or an UAV with up to 3 hours endurance, its launch sequence will be automated and will not require the presence of people on the open deck. At the customer's choice, the ship can be fitted with torpedoes, small guided missiles and autocannon.

Whiskey-class submarines are a class of diesel-electric attack submarines that the Soviet Union built in the early Cold War period.

Their hull and equipment were not very different from WWII units, but the specification for a dive over 200 meters, and greater autonomy, as well as mass production, resulted in a submersible more than 1000 tons. Their artillery differed according to the initial versions (Whiskey I, II, III and IV, the latter having a schnorchel).

The Whiskey V, on the other hand, had a new, better profiled hull and no artillery pieces (Project 613M). They formed the new production standard in 1955. Their sonars were very much inspired by those of the Type XXI whose engineers were now working (rewarded by a golden bridge) for the USSR.

Canadese onderzeeboot blijvend beschadigd door fout werf    ( oeps ... foutje ...  ...  kunt je de "Brook" van de actieve lijst halen en afschrijven  ?.. )

HMCS Corner Brook, een Canadese onderzeeboot van de Victoriaklasse is tijdens een test in maart 2020 blijvend beschadigd geraakt. De onderzeeboot ligt sinds 2011 in het dok in verband met een reparatie en modernisering, en zou in 2020 weer te water worden gelaten. Dat is uitgesteld. Gisteren kwamen meer details over het incident naar buiten. "Het was een domme truc", reageert een van de Nederlandse experts die Marineschepen.nl sprak.

Dit is een grote 1 april grap. Zou dit ontwerp onmogelijk zijn? Nee dat denk ik niet, dit is in mijn ogen gewoon een soort van driecilinder boot maar dan naast elkaar i.p.v. in een driehoek zoals bij ons het geval was.
