De NAVO heeft nu niet echt iets gedaan om de spanning die er sinds einde koude oorlog lag te verkleinen ze hadden een kans om Rusland in de NAVO op te nemen had wel een berg problemen gegeven maar controle over hun doen en laten was eenvoudiger geweest, en waren de huidige conflicten misschien

Dit is weer een partij wensdenken en naïviteit ten top die bijna aansluit bij Kremlin-communicatie.

Je denkt werkelijk dat de Russen oprecht op zoek waren naar evenwichtige transparante participatie in een alliantie die erop gericht was juist Russische agressie te controleren?

Hun plan was het totaal uithollen en lamleggen van de NAVO, van binnenuit. Alleen het opperen van hun interesse om bij de NAVO te willen horen had als doel tweesplijt te zaaien. Rusland haat de NAVO omdat het hun niet toestaat te handelen zoals de blieft, het intimideren van naties zoals Estland o.i.d., of de wil opleggen zoals de deden met Finland (karelie), Roemenie (bessarabie) of wat ze ook willen, dat kan niet meer op basis van 'ik ben groot en jij bent klein' ..want we zijn vereenigd. En dat is Ruslands probleem.

Mensen moeten echt ophouden met het zien van Ruslands acties o.l.v Putin als rationele integere besluiten. Deze naiviteit is dodelijk. Het Rusland waar we nu mee zitten is een direct resultaat van de mannen die op 9 december 1991 de macht hebben genomen: KGB. 

We zij  dertig , zwker twintig jaar aan het lijntje gehouden.
Afsluitend: de NAVO kan niet deescaleren, de NAVO bestaat niet, de NAVO is een velangen vereniging van individuele lidstaten die allemaal over eigen budgetten, plannen en investeringen gaan. De NAVO heeft geen krijgsmacht. De NAVO vormt geen dreiging het is een fukking defensieve alliantie. Alsof de NAVO ooit besluit tot het aanvallen van een land in dit construct; nee. Het moet unaniem worden besloten allemaal en succes met die vergadering dan.

Dit is echt kremlin geneuzel.

Poland: We're ready to host nuclear weapons

Polish President Andrzej Duda said atomic sharing has been a topic of Warsaw-Washington talks.

Polish President Andrzej Duda said Poland is "ready" to host nuclear weapons on its territory if NATO decides to reinforce its eastern flank.

"Russia is increasingly militarizing the Königsberg oblast (Kaliningrad). Recently, it has been relocating its nuclear weapons to Belarus," Duda said in an interview published Monday by Polish outlet Fakt.

"If our allies decide to deploy nuclear weapons as part of nuclear sharing on our territory as well, in order to strengthen the security of NATO's eastern flank, we are ready for it," he added.

Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, President Vladimir Putin has made veiled nuclear threats toward the West, even stashing atomic weapons in Belarus, which borders NATO members Poland, Lithuania and Latvia.

Duda said nuclear sharing has been the subject of talks between Poland and the U.S. "for some time."

"I've already talked about it several times. I must admit that when asked about it, I declared our readiness," he said.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov responded Monday that Russia "will take all the necessary retaliatory steps to guarantee our security," according to state-owned news service RIA Novosti.

Duda, who recently traveled to New York and met Republican 2024 candidate Donald Trump, spoke fondly of the former president, saying that the two have "a lot of common topics."

"He is a politician with whom I directly cooperated with the United States for four years when he was the president of the United States," Duda said. "I want to emphasize very strongly that we have been friends since then. I really like talking to him, because he is an extremely interesting personality and has a lot of experience, both political and business."

Niet doen zo ik zeggen.
Vindt dit wel weer dingetje is juist een van de redenen dat de Rus doet wat het doet en moet toegeven dat ze wel een punt hebben. De NAVO heeft nu niet echt iets gedaan om de spanning die er sinds einde koude oorlog lag te verkleinen ze hadden een kans om Rusland in de NAVO op te nemen had wel een berg problemen gegeven maar controle over hun doen en laten was eenvoudiger geweest, en waren de huidige conflicten misschien wel niet geweest maar het is niet gebeurd dus koffiedik kijken, gemiste kans laten we maar zeggen.

Organiseren NAVO-top kost Nederland zeker 95 miljoen euro

Het organiseren van de NAVO-top volgend jaar kost het kabinet zeker 95 miljoen euro. Dit geld komt uit een speciaal potje voor internationale samenwerking. Er zijn al kosten gemaakt voor de voorbereiding, zoals de huur van de locatie en het boeken van hotelkamers, blijkt uit de Voorjaarsnota.

Het was al bekend dat Nederland de NAVO-top van volgend jaar zou organiseren. Volgens De Telegraaf is de keuze zoals verwacht gevallen op Den Haag als gaststad.

In 2024 en 2025 gaat in totaal 95 miljoen euro naar de top, bevestigt een woordvoerder van Buitenlandse Zaken. Dat departement legt zelf 20 miljoen euro bij. De andere 75 miljoen euro komt uit het speciale potje. Dat wordt verdeeld over de departementen die kosten zullen maken voor de voorbereiding: Justitie en Veiligheid, Infrastructuur en Waterstaat en Buitenlandse Zaken zelf. Er komen mogelijk ook nog kosten van Defensie bij, wat het ministerie binnen de eigen begroting moet oplossen.

"Indien noodzakelijk" kan er nog eens naar het budget gekeken worden op een later moment.

In 2014 organiseerde Nederland een grote top over nucleaire veiligheid, waar ook de toenmalige Amerikaanse president Barack Obama bij aanwezig was. Voor die top is indertijd zo'n 24 miljoen euro uitgetrokken.

A dozen allies agree to expand NATO Flight Training Europe initiative

Twelve NATO allies – Belgium, Czechia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Spain, Türkiye and the United Kingdom – agreed on 25 March 2024 to further expand military aviation training across the alliance through the NATO Flight Training Europe (NFTE) initiative.

This will include the first ever placement of around 50 student pilots in four locations beginning this year, the addition of nine new training campuses, as well as the establishment of a dedicated industry advisory body.

The NFTE aims to fundamentally change the way NATO nations train the full range of aircrews, including pilots for jets, helicopters, and remotely piloted air systems (RPAS), while also further promoting unity within the alliance.

"Unity doesn't just happen; it has to be earned," NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană was quoted as saying in a NATO press release. "One way of achieving this is by systematically training together and forging trusting relationships in the process. NATO Flight Training Europe is an excellent example of this. This important multi-national effort will help us to break down national silos towards a shared approach to training the next generations of aircrews."

With the latest expansion of the number of training campuses to 14 locations, the NFTE is now facilitating training in seven allied countries.

The rapid growth of the NFTE has attracted interest from other NATO nations not yet involved, with several allies expected to join it in the first half of 2024.

The NFTE was officially launched as a 'High Visibility Project' by 11 allies in the margins of the meeting of NATO defence ministers in June 2020 with the signature of the corresponding Letter of Intent (LoI); Belgium became the 12th participant by signing an amendment to the LoI in February 2021). This provided the framework for interested allies to systematically explore and develop the NFTE concept further. Under the LoI work focused on the more detailed questions associated with establishing the NFTE: determining all national requirements; cataloguing existing training capacities on the territory of participating countries; outlining the governance structures for the NFTE; as well as determining the composition and features of specific campuses, standardised training syllabi and potential contractual provisions to engage with industry.

Based on this extensive and thorough preparatory work the participants' defence ministers signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at the NATO Summit in June 2021. The MoU fully established the NFTE governance structure and architecture, therefore paving the way for designating and opening the first NFTE training campuses.

In December 2021 the participants officially designated the Flight Training Center (CLV) in Pardubice, Czech Republic, and the International Flight Training School (IFTS), located in Decimomannu, Italy, as the initial two NFTE training campuses.

In January 2023, three training sites – in Greece, Hungary and North Macedonia – were added to NFTE project. The 120th Air Training Wing in Kalamata, Kecskemet Air Base and the Air Training Center near Skopje respectively joined the campuses in the Czech Republic and Italy on the list of official training sites for the Alliance's military pilots.

De nieuwe wapenwedloop met Rusland

Het is een oud Romeins spreekwoord: als je vrede wilt, bereid je dan voor op oorlog. Een oude wijsheid die veel Westerse landen na de Koude Oorlog liever vergaten. Maar door de oorlog in Oekraïne en de oorlogstaal uit Moskou, is dat besef helemaal terug.

Idee van Europees leger is al uit 1948, Frankrijk lag dwars.

Jan Paternotte (D66, democraten) stelde in een opiniestuk op 26-03-24 in het Algemeen Dagblad: "zonder Europees leger stelt 2 % niets voor."
Laurens Dassen van de pro-EU partij Volt lanceerde in 2023 overigens hetzelfde voorstel.

Ik had wel verwacht dat beiden eerst meer informatie zouden zoeken omtrent een Europese krijgsmacht.  Dit idee dateert al uit 1948 en er zijn in de jaren die volgden veel trajecten gestart.  In augustus 1995 werd ik als militair geplaatst bij Bureau Planning Cell van de WEU (West Europese Unie).  Het kantoor stond in Brussel.  Tot mijn vertrek in november 1998 heb ik meegewerkt aan de samenstelling van een organisatie die qua uitvoering gelijkgesteld moest worden aan de NAVO, zij het op Europees niveau.  Er werd samengewerkt met militairen uit diverse Europese landen, waaronder Noorwegen en het Verenigd Koninkrijk.
Deze door de politicus Paternotte genoemde landen waren destijds al actief voor dit doel.

  Het is jammer dat het idee voor een Europees leger niet verder is uitgewerkt.  En veel kennis verloren is gegaan mede door de opstelling van Frankrijk.
Nu hebben we nog steeds te maken met een dwarsliggend Frankrijk.  Denk maar aan de Nederlandse puls visserij, die door hen met valse argumenten de grond in geboord werd.

Bij mijn vertrek in 1998 kreeg ik van de secretaris-generaal Jose Cutileiro, een boek over de geschiedenis van de WEU 1948 - 1998.  Mocht een of beide genoemde heren interesse hebben, ben ik bereid dit uit te lenen.
