The British Army will commence the replacement of 156,000 SA80 rifles via Project Grayburn from FY 2024/ 25, with contract award in FY 2027/ 28, entry into service FY 2029/ 30 and IOC in 2030/ 31

To add a little more detail:
> 5.56 mm & 7.62 mm ammunition will be retained at section & platoon level (there are no plans to adopt US Army's 6.8x51 mm NGSW)
> Grayburn will be a family of weapons based on a common lower receiver
> 3 to 4 different variants expected to be acquired (dismounted infantry / mounted infantry rifle, other arms rifle, PDW)
> Not necessarily an AR15 rifle

No decision on what options will be tested at this stage. Non-exhaustive list of likely contenders includes:
- SIG MCX LT
- FN Herstal SCAR
- H&K HK416 (AR15 piston)
- H&K HK433
- Knights Armament (AR15 non-piston)
- LMT (AR15 non-piston)
- Daniel Defense (AR15 non-piston)
- Beretta ARX 160
- CZ Bren 805 Mk 2

Heckler & Koch HK416 A8 confirmed as new assault rifle for German army to replace G36 (Frankrijk en Duitsland aan de HK416)

POSTED ON THURSDAY, 15 DECEMBER 2022 10:41

As reported by Waldemar Geiger in Soldat & Technik, the D?sseldorf Higher Regional Court dismissed the lawsuit brought by C.G. Haenel, confirming that the Bundeswehr's final selection decision in favor of Heckler & Koch's HK416 A8 was legitimate. This emerges from the verdict of the court.

Heckler & Koch's HK416 A8 will definitely become the German army's new assault rifle to replace the aging G36 (Picture source: HK Forum)

The reason for the decision was probably the court's view that the exclusion of C.G. Haenel was lawful due to patent infringement by Heckler & Koch, Waldemar Geiger reports. "The respondent [Federal Ministry of Defence] has the applicant [C.G. Haenel] rightly excluded due to serious professional misconduct in the form of an alleged patent infringement. Through the expert opinions it obtained, the respondent has proven an infringement of European patent EP 2 018 508 B 1, the owner of which is the summoned party [Heckler & Koch], by the MK 556 assault rifle offered by the applicant,? says a press release of the D?sseldorf Higher Regional Court.

The Bundeswehr intends to replace its current G36 assault rifle and launched a competition for around 120,000 new assault rifles in 2017. Ultimately, the HK416 A8 from Heckler & Koch emerged as the winner of the comparison competition. Since the supplier C.G. Haenel has taken legal action, the current award process was suspended.

With today's announcement of the decision by the D?sseldorf Higher Regional Court, the procurement project can now be continued. If the Bundeswehr continues to strive for the procurement of the Bundeswehr assault rifle system, the Bundeswehr procurement office BAAINBw will enter into corresponding negotiations with Heckler & Koch and negotiate the final delivery conditions, Waldemar Geiger writes. The negotiated conditions are submitted to the relevant committees of the Bundestag for approval in the form of a so-called 25 million bill. Due to the parliamentary break in the summer, this can only happen in September at the earliest. A supply contract with Heckler & Koch can only be concluded after parliamentary consultation has taken place.

Subsequently, Heckler & Koch would have to deliver a corresponding number of test samples of the HK416 A8 for use in the Bundeswehr. Originally, 390 assault rifles were estimated for this, S&T reported. It was planned to start with the operational testing of the individual variants (short and long barrels) of the new assault rifle around six months after the contract was signed. The tests should then be completed after about a year.

During testing, the functional requirements against the existing weapons and the logistical aspects of the system are checked. In the course of the process, it can also happen that slight changes have to be made to the system, so that the final design status of the final series weapon is only visible after the end of the field test. The operational testing ends with a declaration of acceptance by the armed forces.

The first of the 118,718 assault rifles that had been ordered were supposed to be delivered to the troops just under one and a half to two years after the contract was signed. The total duration for the changeover of the weapons should take more than half a decade, as the tender foresaw an annual delivery volume of up to 20,000 rifles. It is currently not known whether and to what extent the Bundeswehr will adjust the schedules.

The Heckler & Koch HK416 is a gas-operated assault rifle chambered for the 5.56?45mm NATO cartridge. Although the design is based on the AR-15 class of firearm (specifically the Colt M4 carbine family issued to the U.S. military), it uses a proprietary short-stroke, gas piston system from Heckler & Koch's earlier G36 family of rifles.

FN Herstal releases its new 9x19mm FN HiPer® pistol, the next world benchmark for military and law enforcement (hopelijk compenseert het functionele het uiterlijk)

May 31, 2022

Belgium-based designer and manufacturer of small calibre weapons, associated weapon systems and ammunition FN Herstal proudly announces the introduction of its brand-new 9x19mm handgun dedicated to both armed forces and law enforcement: FN HiPer®.

Fully designed, developed and manufactured in Belgium, the FN HiPer® combines the best globally proven solutions with a large number of innovative patented FN features to deliver an ergonomic, reliable and safe weapon dedicated to both armed forces and law enforcement.

ERGONOMICS PUSHED TO ITS LIMITS
Ergonomics was one of the most considered and improved aspects during preliminary studies and the design stage at FN Herstal as it is a vital feature for any pistol and a determining factor for any armed forces and law enforcement operator.

The hand grip has been intensively studied to find the best compromise between static and dynamic comfort. The optimised grip angle, the balance of the pistol and low bore axis give the FN HiPer® perfect controllability, especially for fast follow-up shots.

With its retention grooves, three interchangeable ergonomic grip covers and numerous non-slip grip surfaces, the pistol has been designed to best suit the shape of any user's hand while an optional tactical locking plate is available for even easier cocking.

The ambidextrous slide catch is uniquely located and prevents any accidental activation by the user. Also, the design of the ambidextrous, rotary operating magazine catch is revolutionary. The shooter can reliably change magazines in seconds without shifting grip while staying aligned on the target. The two levers act independently. When one lever is activated the other remains static, so it will not be blocked by the user's hand.

The FN HiPer® comes standard with a new trigger mechanism, the pressure and travel of which can be adjusted by an armourer. These adjustments allow the pistol to be adapted to the shooter, and contribute to the perfect ergonomics of the pistol and exceptional comfort for the shooter.

Choosing the FN HiPer® is opting for a handgun that offers optimum ergonomics, great comfort and easy handling, including for people with small hands.

RELIABILITY AND SAFETY WERE NOT IGNORED
Alongside a rigid metal chassis and a completely new firing mechanism, the FN HiPer® also features unequalled sealing against ingress of dust and dirt, with all subassemblies perfectly assembled, with no gap between them. This makes the pistol extremely reliable in both normal and adverse conditions.

FN Herstal designed a fully polymer magazine using new, highly resistant materials for extreme reliability and durability compared to a traditional metal magazine. The magazine indicates the remaining number of rounds.

Thanks to its inherent innovative overall design, the FN HiPer® offers increased safety as it includes all the standard safety systems, such as trigger safety, firing pin safety, and out-of-battery safety, and can be disassembled without pulling the trigger.

Finally, the FN HiPer® pistol, in its MRD (mini red dot sight) version, features an FN patented interface which makes the pistol compatible with the most commonly used red dot sights for pistols.

FN HiPer® is the pistol that will definitely make a difference for both armed forces and law enforcement.

To learn more about the all-new FN HiPer®, visit the FN Herstal booth (Belgian pavilion, hall 6, booth F197) at the EUROSATORY 2022 show, from 13 to 17 June 2022.

Is toch een keuze lijkt me?

Check.
