Former McLaren F1 chief Ron Dennis takes up UK Ministry of Defence role
« Reactie #5 Gepost op: 03/03/2017 | 12:00 uur »

Former McLaren chairman and chief executive Ron Dennis will join the Ministry of Defence's newly-formed world class innovation panel, the Defence Secretary has announced.

Dennis was forced to relinquish his role at McLaren at the end of last year, bringing to a close a partnership spanning more than 30 years and 17 world championship titles. Alongside British astronaut Tim Peake and intelligence officer Robert Hannigan, the 69-year-old will "bring his global perspective to meet the UK's security challenges" in the new advisory role.

"There can be nothing more important than our national security," Dennis said. "I'm enthusiastic to be among the first of those named to this world-class panel, who have joined MOD to spearhead their efforts to innovate across the organisation, from technology to culture -- challenging the status quo, staying ahead of the curve through change and innovation."

The Defence Innovation Advisory Panel will be responsible with driving forward the MOD's 'Innovation Initiative', which encourages imagination, ingenuity and entrepreneurship, in pursuit of maintaining military advantage in the future.

Defence Secretary Michael Fallon added: "Backed by an 800M innovation fund, we want to transform defence and work with small firms, academics and others to find solutions to the threats to our security. This panel of world class innovators will bring their drive and expert insights to the vital task of keeping the UK ahead of our adversaries and boosting our prosperity."
