Denmark receives first three MH-60R Seahawks

By Dominic Perry, London | 07 June 2016

Denmark has received the first three of an eventual nine Sikorsky MH-60R Seahawk anti-submarine warfare helicopters to replace its fleet of ageing Westland Lynx 90s.

To be operated by the Royal Danish Air Force, the remainder of the order will be delivered by mid-2018.

Speaking at a ceremony on the heli-deck of a Danish navy Iver Huitfeldt-class frigate, defence minister Peter Christensen said the new helicopters would extend Copenhagen's reach and capabilities.

It intends to complete the introduction of the new type by 2019, he adds.

Rear Adm Frank Trojan, chief of the Danish naval staff, says his crews cannot wait for the arrival of the full complement of Seahawks and "their skilled crews".

They will be operated by the RDAF's 723 Sqn, based at Karup air base.

Ziet er wel "bad-ass" uit moet ik zeggen.  ;)

Google maar eens op MH-60R en MH-60S met bewapening. Dan zie je genoeg gunships.

Lockheed Martin Delivers First Danish MH-60R Helicopter to the U.S. Navy

Lockheed Martin | October 22, 2015

Aircraft to enter testing series prior to Royal Danish Air Force acceptance

The U.S. Navy accepted the first Danish MH-60R "Romeo" aircraft in a ceremony today.

OWEGO, N.Y. /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Navy accepted the first MH-60R helicopter slated for Denmark from Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) in a ceremony today at the Lockheed Martin facility in Owego, New York.

"We are excited to accept this aircraft bound for Denmark," said Rear Adm. CJ Jaynes, program executive officer for air anti-submarine warfare, assault and special mission programs, which oversees the U.S. Navy's H-60 program office. " The Romeo is the U.S. Navy's primary rotary anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare platform in operation and we're proud to know these will be flying soon with the Royal Danish Air Force -- our first Seahawks in Europe."

Manufactured by Sikorsky Aircraft and provided with advanced mission systems and sensors by Lockheed Martin, the MH-60R is operational and deployed as the primary U.S. Navy anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare system for both open- ocean and littoral zones. In 2012, Denmark announced it will acquire a total of nine MH-60R aircraft by 2018 to conduct missions such as surveillance, search and rescue, anti-piracy and anti-surface warfare.

"MH-60R helicopters host the complete package of sensors and systems that address today's increasing threats," said Dan Spoor, Lockheed Martin vice president of Aviation and Unmanned Systems. "We are honored to extend our international partnership with the Royal Danish Air Force to deliver these capabilities and the technology that will protect our allies around the globe."

Prior to being delivered to the Royal Danish Air Force, these aircraft will enter a series of testing to validate Danish configuration modifications. The first aircraft will be delivered to Denmark in the second quarter of 2016, and the full fleet will be delivered by 2018.

Denmark is the second international partner in the MH-60R program, following the Royal Australian Navy. To date, Lockheed Martin has delivered a total of 14 of 24 Australian aircraft ahead of schedule. The remaining 10 aircraft will be delivered in 2016.

First two Danish Seahawks near completion

By Beth Stevenson, London | July 31, 2015

The first two Lockheed Martin/Sikorsky MH-60R Seahawk helicopters destined for the Royal Danish Air Force have arrived at the former's Owego, New York site, where they will undergo mission system integration ahead of a planned delivery to the Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation in 2016.

Tom Kane, director of naval helicopter programmes for Lockheed Martin Mission Systems and Training, tells Flightglobal that the first pair of aircraft will be delivered to the US Navy in September/October under a Foreign Military Sales agreement. They will then undergo validation testing on the Denmark-specific modifications that have been made to the rotorcraft.

The difference between this configuration and the USN's includes modifications to the deck lock system to allow the aircraft to land on Danish ships, plus the addition of a life raft and installation of a high-frequency radio common to Denmark.

The USN will provide some training to the Danish military, but a long-term training plan has yet to be decided on, Kane says.

The US Naval Air Systems Command – the contracting body – announced that the service would sell nine of the anti-submarine warfare helicopters and associated support to Denmark in In December 2012. The nation had also evaluated AgustaWestland's AW159 for the requirement.

A $135 million contract was awarded in 2013 to Sikorsky for the baseline aircraft, and a separate contract placed with Lockheed for mission systems work.

Five aircraft are expected to be delivered in 2016, three in 2017 and one in 2018 – all according to the original schedule, Kane says.

The Seahawks will replace the Royal Danish Air Force's Westland Lynx 90Bs, which entered service in 2000.

Meanwhile, deliveries to the first export customer for the MH-60R – the Royal Australian Navy – have passed the halfway stage, with 13 of the 24 aircraft having been delivered. The remaining 11 will be delivered "over the next several months", Kane says, with the last delivery scheduled for the third quarter of 2016.

In May, Saudi Arabia was also granted an authorisation by the US State Department for the purchase of 10 Seahawks, worth a potential $1.9 billion.

Kane could not provide further detail on the contract status, simply noting: "We stand behind the US Navy, and look forward to assisting both navies as they look at deepening and expanding co-operation in the maritime domain."

There have been reports claiming that Taiwan is also interested in acquiring 10 of the type for its navy, but Kane defers all comment to the USN.
