Insult over Injury.

Dat de Australische 'Jackaroo's' (leerling cowboys) de hooghartige en onbetrouwbare Fransen de deur uit schoppen komt natuurlijk hard aan.  Maar dat zat er ook al een beetje aan te komen.

Het meest dominante EU land.  Dat ook nog eens als enigste Europese land permanent aanwezig is met bases en eenheden in het Indo-Pacific gebied.
Kreeg woensdag avond 15 september ook nog een veel groter mes in de rug gestoken door een hoog-bejaarde Amerikaanse 'Cowboy'.
Die mooi centraal in beeld stond met aan de ene zijde die verdomde Aussies en aan de andere zijde ... dat vermaledijde Verenigd Koninkrijk.  La France met zijn grandeur mag geen rol op dat toneel spelen en is gereduceerd tot (in hun ogen) toeschouwer en op zijn best waterdrager.

De AUKUS samenwerking tekent niet heel duidelijk de geo-politieke verhoudingen tussen de westerse wereld versus China.  Maar ook de geo-politieke verhoudingen in die westerse wereld.  Frankrijk en de EU zijn de bij-wagen van de VS of Rusland en China.

Dit is waar ik ook rekening mee hou. Het zou mij overigens echt niet verbazen als Nederland uiteindelijk een aangepaste variant van de Type 212CD zal kiezen. Past zo lekker in het straatje van meer samenwerken tussen Nederland en Duitsland op politiek, militair, R&D en industrieel gebied.

Ik durf niet meer ergens mee rekening mee te houden. Het is een totaal verknipte procedure geworden. Die roep om meer transparantie past hier ook. Het is achterkamer geneuzel.

Of de keuze over te gaan naar SSNs plan- en budgetmatig gezien nou zo verstandig is, is een tweede, maar het geeft ze in ieder geval wel heel veel diepte om te opereren en de Chinezen nerveus te maken. Ik verwacht dat dit gunstig is voor Nederland: iedere insider zal wel weten waarom ze Aussies zijn gestopt met de Franse deal én hebben gezien dat de Fransen toch geen afspraken nakomen noch de benodigde productiecapaciteit hebben. Zo komt Saab-Damen waarschijnlijk er een stuk beter vanaf.

French Government, Naval Group React to Australia's Decision to end Attack-class Submarine Program

Krijgen we volgende week weer een persconferentie ? heroprichting ABDACOM ? ... 
(just kidding) geen nucl. onderzeeboten voor NL.

Ik denk wel voor de Fransen een flinke bloedneus, ze zullen nu proberen het maximale nog uit de contractbreuk te halen.
Maar dit heeft voor mijn gevoel toch ook invloed op de NL Walrus vervangingsprogramma.
Of dit heeft zoveel invloed dat NL zelf steeds minder vertrouwen heeft in een Franse deal of dat de Fransen nog intensiever via allerlei kanalen hun invloed zullen aanwenden, ( o.a. Macon vs Rutte ) maar ook dat ze ver onder kostprijs gaan aanbieden om de deal hoe dan ook binnen te halen om internationaal hun gezicht te redden.

Maar als dat gaat gebeuren ben ik bang dat die Franse neus een Pinokkio neus zal worden...       ( vertragingen, kostenverhogingen, toch niet aan de eisen kunnen voldoen )

In Surprise Move US, UK Agree To Share Nuclear Submarine Tech With Australia

A US official called the move the "biggest strategic step Australia has taken in generations."

In a major expansion and deepening of the ties between the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia, the three nations have formed a new joint-security agreement, one that includes giving, for the first time, nuclear-powered submarine technology to Australia.

The agreement, which could potentially alter the future strategic balance in the Pacific, is expected to scrap a current high-dollar Australian submarine purchase from France. Known now as "AUKUS" — for Australia, UK, US — the arrangement was formally announced via a Wednesday evening virtual meeting with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and American President Joe Biden.

"The future of each of our nations, and indeed the world, depends on a free and open Indo-Pacific," Biden said. "This is about investing in our greatest source of strength, our alliances, and updating them to better meet the threats of today and tomorrow."

The agreement will "bring together our sailors, our scientists and our industry, to maintain and expand our edge and military capabilities" over key technologies, Biden added.

In a background call with reporters, a pair of senior Biden administration officials said the agreement will cover a range of security technologies and policies, including what one official called a "new architecture" of meetings and engagements among senior defense and foreign policy officials, one that represents the "biggest strategic step that Australia's taken in generations."

Australia is currently under contract with French firm Naval Group to produce 12 next-generation submarines, but according to a report in the Financial Review, the Morrison government plans to rip up that 2016 agreement — which has become a headache over spiraling costs and local industrial concerns — and focus on the American nuclear offering.

Euan Graham, the Shangri-La Dialogue Senior Fellow for Asia-Pacific Security, noted that there will be financial repercussions, likely "several hundred million dollars," for Australia's cancellation of the French deal. And, he notes, "Franco-Australian relations will take a knock," with Paris likely to be especially displeased to see London take its place as an industrial partner.

But ultimately, Graham said, "the big implication from this debacle is not triumph of Anglo over Franco relations. It is rather the triumph of strategic imperatives over economic ones in Australia's defense procurement."

Niet alleen de defensie-industrie kaarten zijn vandaag flink opgeschud.  Dat geldt evenzeer voor de kaarten in militaire en geo-politieke opzichten.

Franse arrogantie heeft ze opgebroken. Ze dachten die Australiers wel aan de haak te hebben en aan de lijn te kunnen houden. Niet dus. Eeuwig gestokbrood  heeft ze de deal gekost. Ik geloof er niets van dat als de Fransen het echt hadden gewild ze die boten veel sneller hadden kunnen leveren. Ze zaten enkel gevangen in een schaakspel tussen praktisch ieder werf wat ze wel en niet bezaten in Europa waardoor iedere flexibiliteit eruit was. Ze hebben als een hotel planning alles volgeduwd.

Het is enkel vrezen voor nu nog grotere push uit Parijs voor Franse boten in NL. Ze hebben wat te bewijzen nu.
