Deze week is er iets meer info naar buiten gekomen over de geplande Type 32, daarin wordt gesproken over de ''lobby'' van Babcock om het Type 31 als basis van het Type 32 te gebruiken.
In mijn ogen een logische keuze met 2 klasse's van tot op heden slechts 5 fregatten per klasse, en wat mij betreft zou het nog makkelijk omgevormd kunnen worden tot de Type 31B waarbij de eerste 5 bekend staan als Type 31A. Dit is ook gebeurd bij de Type 22's waarvan er uiteindelijk 14 gebouwd zijn in 3 batches.

Beter gezegd... de bewapening van onze M-vervangers is vrij licht, maar daar zijn de meesten hier het ook wel over eens volgens mij...

Vrij licht of gewoon onder bewapend ?

Overigens is het interessant om te vermelden dat onze LCF's de enigste fregatten zijn in de Westerse marines waarbij het aantal VLS cellen hoger ligt dan 32 cells. Op dat gebied zijn de LCF's ook weer een uniek schip, maar andere noemen het Jagers en dan is 40 cellen weer aan de lage kant. Het is dus ook maar net hoe je het wilt zien.  Ga je de ASWF's omvormen naar korvetten zijn ze ook zwaar bewapend voor hun naam.

Blijkbaar gaat het bij de MOU tussen Oekraïne en Denemarken toch om de MPV 80 maar dan de SAR variant. De verwachting is wel dat de MPV 80 bij de Denen het Knud Rasmussen OPV moet gaan vervangen.

De verwachting van wie? Ik lees er niets over terug in het artikel. De genoemde Deense OPV's zijn vanaf 2008 en later in dienst getreden. Lijkt me beetje vroeg om ze te gaan vervangen.

STADT NAVAL Approved As Partner In The Development Of New MMPC



STADT NAVAL has been invited and approved as a partner in the European Naval Industry Consortium led by Fincantieri, Naval Group and Navantia (coordinated by NAVIRIS) for the MMPC / EPC.

The consortium submitted a proposal to the European Defence Fund (EDF) for the MMPC-call earlier this month.

The Consortium aims to maximise synergies and collaboration between European shipbuilding companies and suppliers. Through conceptual studies and a design-phase, the consortium aims to develop a modular, flexible, energy-efficient, green, safe, interoperable, and cyber-secure naval vessel design for new European Patrol Corvettes (EPC).

As partner STADT NAVAL will be responsible for studies and basic design of electric power grid for hybrid and electric propulsion. Studies and design will incorporate main components like switchboards, electric drives, electric motors, and geared propeller solutions. Standard interface for integration and modularisation will be a vital part of studies and design.

The three European shipbuilders submitted their industrial offer for the MMPC project last week. As we repoted at the time, the "MMPC" term first surfaced in the European Defence Fund 2021 calls for proposals document first issued in October 202.

According to a Naval News source familiar with the matter, MMPC is not the new name for the EPC program. Rather, EPC is the name of the Pesco project (launched with support of EDA in 2019) with Italy, France, Spain, Greece (+ Portugal as observer). MMPC is the name of the 1st European Defence Fund call, launched in July 2021, covering the first phase of the program: up to initial corvette design + technological bricks. EPC remains the name of the three shipbuilders' offer answering to the MMPC call, supported by co-funding Nations: Italy, France, Spain, Greece, Denmark and Norway.

Last month, STADT AS and SH-Defence announced that they signed a cooperation agreement to integrate their technologies to increase modularization of power generation and electric propulsion technologies.

Ik vermoed dat men gebruik maakt van het ontwerp van de   KNUD RASMUSSEN  Klasse?

Ook dit schip kan voorzien worden van Stanflex containers.

Navy to pick new torpedo in March 2022 following delay

The Navy is planning to award a contract in March 2022 for a new lightweight torpedo, a major milestone for the first new torpedo the service will field in over two decades.

David Portner, senior program manager for undersea weapons at Northrop Grumman, told Breaking Defense in an interview on Wednesday the consortium managing the competition published the request for proposals in October for the springtime award. Breaking Defense reported earlier this year that a congressional budget cut had forced the Navy to delay the solicitation, which was originally scheduled to be released in January 2021.

The solicitation was not made public at the time of release, but the Navy told Breaking Defense for the previous report that the competition had been postponed until the fall. A Navy spokesman did not immediately respond to questions about the solicitation for this report.

The competition is for the Compact Rapid Attack Weapon and is being managed by the Undersea Technology Innovation Consortium, a group of defense companies curated by the Navy and ranging in size from small firms to major primes. Only members of the consortium will be able to submit proposals for the torpedo competition.

One of the primary advantages of running the competition through the consortium, rather than a standard acquisition process, is the group is operated under other transaction authority, a power established and approved by Congress that enables the service to more rapidly develop and purchase worthwhile capabilities.

Portner said Northrop submitted a proposal for its Very Lightweight Torpedo in November, a weapon that has been designed and developed in partnership with Penn State. As its name suggest, Northrop's VLWT weighs roughly 200 pounds, one third the weight a traditional 600-pound torpedo. Practically, this widens the aperture of platforms capable of employing the weapon to smaller vessels or aircraft, and it also increases the number of torpedoes that any given platform can carry.

It is not clear which companies Northrop is competing against because the Navy does not routinely disclose the names of contractors that respond to requests for proposals.

The strength of Northrop's design, according to Portner, is the weapon's modularity, which segregates the weapon into four compartments. This enables the company or the Navy to upgrade certain components without having to redesign the torpedo wholesale.
