Russia's Sukhoi S-70 flying wing UAV makes first flight

Russia's Sukhoi S-70 Okhotnik flying wing unmanned air vehicle (UAV) has made its first test flight.

The flight took place on 3 August, according to state-owned news agency TASS. The location of the initial liftoff was not disclosed by the Russian ministry of defence, who on 7 August published video online of the event.

The first flight of the Okhotnik, or "Hunter", UAV lasted more than 20min. The aircraft made several flights over an airfield at an altitude of about 2000ft, after which it successfully landed, says the ministry. The video released online shows a grey camouflage aircraft taxing on a tarmac, taking off, making several banked turns with its landing gear extended, before touching down on the runway again.

The S-70 UAV uses "special materials and coatings that make it practically invisible to radar detection equipment," says the Russian foreign ministry.

The aircraft looks similar in shape to flying wing UAVs developed by Western militaries, including the Dassault Neuron, BAE Systems Taranis and Northrop Grumman X-47B. That flying wing shape should give it less radar cross section, though its aft exposed jet engine exhaust nozzle would likely negate some stealthy characteristics.

The aircraft is equipped with targeting equipment, optoelectronic sensors, radio hardware and other types of reconnaissance equipment, says the ministry. The S-70 is capable of a maximum speed of 540kt (1,000 km/h), according to TASS.

Een officier van een klein landje komt een admiraal uitleg geven hoe zij in een gebied zo groot als Luxemburg een succesvolle luchtoorlog uitvochten.
Dit gebied was door de tegenstander voorzien van de grootste concentratie SAM systemen op Aarde en een verdedigende luchtmacht van ca. 185 jachtviegtuigen.
Deze admiraal had ook 1 aanvalsmissie uitgevoerd vlakbij dit gebied met in totaal 10  A-6 Intruders en A-7 Corsairs, maar hij had 1 A-6 en 1 A-7 verloren.
Die admiraal vroeg zich af, waarom hebben zij wel en ik geen succes ?

Enfin, aan boord werd een video film gestart en begon met een heldere zwart wit film van de Admiraal zijn eigen vliegdekschip !
Huh ???? Hoe kan dat ?  Onze moderne scheepsradars, onze E-2C Hawkeye radarvliegtuigen hebben niets opgespoord !
Ja, zegt de bezoeker, wij hebben kleine vliegtuigjes die moeilijk met de oogballen, radar of warmtebeeld camera  op te sporen zijn of juist heel gemakkelijk.  De meeste houden zich bezig met intel surveillance reconnaissance (ISR).  Maar sommige houden zich juist bezig met afleiding / misleiding van het vijandelijke Integrated Air Defense System.  Die Remotely Piloted ISR Aircraft, een flink slag kleiner dan een sportvliegtuigje, zorgden ervoor dat de Israeliers een duidelijk algeheel beeld kregen van de vijandelijke slagorde.  De misleiders en afleiders zorgden ervoor dat de tegenvoeters hun radars en radio's activeerden.  Dat zorgde er weer voor dat andere ISR middelen deze doelen konden opsporen, nauwkeurig lokaliseren en identificeren.  Andere middelen, zoals artillerie en jachtbommenwerpers konden deze vervolgens kinetisch of elektronisch (EOV) aangrijpen.    En uiteindelijk zagen wij de vijandelijke Syrische jagers in verwarring rondjes vliegen.

Jordan puts Chinese UAVs on sale

The Royal Jordanian Air Force (RJAF) has put its Chinese-made armed unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) up for sale, indicating its disappointment with their performance.

In a notice posted on its website on 3 June, the RJAF said it was looking to sell six CH-4B UAVs, a type made by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC). The RJAF acquired the type in 2016 along with AR-1 laser-guided missiles and FT-9 guided bombs. The Jordanian aircraft are capable of operating beyond line of sight as they are fitted with satellite communications equipment.
