Het blijkt dat Oostenrijkse bedrijven toeleverancier van de C-390 zijn en Oostenrijk krijgt de C-390 sneller geleverd als men via Nederland de C-390 koopt. En men kan de aankoop uitbreiden naar een vijfde C-390.

Austria selects C-390 Millennium

On 20 September 2023, the Austrian Minister of Defence, Klaudia Tanner, officially announced that Austria has selected the Embraer C-390 Millennium as the successor for the Lockheed C-130K Hercules operated by the Österreichische Luftstreitkräfte (Austrian Air Force).

Austria will acquire four C-390 transport aircraft, valued at around € 600 million. The C-390 Millennium was the only one that met the technical specifications of the Armed Forces, the minister explained, explaining why this type could be decided on relatively early.

For acquiring the Brazilian made transporter, Austria cooperates with the Netherlands in buying together nine aircraft. The details of the cooperation will be negotiated over the next few months, and the contract is expected to be finalised in the first half of 2024. Delivery of the first aircraft is expected within two to three years after the contract is signed.

This announcement also explains why the Netherlands still had not signed a contract with Embraer. Through the joint procurement of the C-390s it is hoped that the price per aircraft will be lower. This week, the Dutch Ministry of Defence announced that they will order a fifth aircraft.

Zijn de NL toestellen anders dan de overige? lees betere bescherming etc.

Niet dat ik weet maar Fokker voorziet deze op Woensdrecht van extra apparatuur waardoor deze aan NL eisen voldoet.

Een contractafsluiting wordt verwacht in de eerste helft van 2024. De machines moeten door Nederland worden gekocht bij de fabrikant en vervolgens worden doorverkocht naar Oostenrijk. Volgens het Ministerie van Defensie zal de C-390 rond 2026/27 in de vloot worden opgenomen.

Embraer C-390 als Hercules-opvolger in de Oostenrijkse strijdkrachten

Zoals gisteren al gemeld, zal de Embraer C-390 de beproefde Lockheed Martin C-130 Hercules bij de Oostenrijkse strijdkrachten vervangen. Minister van Defensie Klaudia Tanner bevestigde dit een paar minuten geleden op een persconferentie.

Tanner heeft nog geen informatie gegeven over de exacte prijs of het aantal aan te schaffen machines, omdat de onderhandelingen nog niet zijn afgerond. Er kan echter worden uitgegaan van een orde van grootte van ongeveer vier C-390-machines.

Het federale leger exploiteert momenteel drie Herculessen, en een andere machine dient als donor van reserveonderdelen. Het verouderende toestel zal echter uiterlijk in 2030 vervangen moeten zijn.

De C-390 zal – net als de Hercules – gestationeerd worden op de vliegbasis Linz Hörsching. Dit vereist echter een aanpassing van de infrastructuur op het terrein. Een deel van de huidige hangars dateert uit de Tweede Wereldoorlog.

Embraer Defense & Security Holds C-390 Millennium Day in India



Embraer's C-390 has been short-listed, along with the Airbus A400M and the Lockheed C-130J, for India's Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) competition, and the Brazilian company has jump-started its marketing campaign.

mbraer concluded its C-390 Millennium Day in New Delhi which brought together key private and public entities from the Indian aerospace and defence industry. The event provided insights on Embraer's efforts to support India's government initiative of Make in India and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' (self-reliant India).

"The event was a great platform to deepen engagement with the players in the industry as we strengthen the case of the C-390 Millennium for India," said Bosco da Costa Junior, President & CEO of Embraer Defense & Security. "The vibrant discussions have paved the way for us to carve a unique proposition for India and the Indian Air Force."

Earlier this year, the Indian Air Force issued a Request For Information for a new fleet of Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) aircraft which Embraer has responded to, offering the C-390 Millennium as the platform of choice.

The C-390 Millennium was on display at AeroIndia in February 2023 where guests toured the modern military tactical transport aircraft. Its multi-mission platform offers incomparable mobility, combining high productivity and operating flexibility with low operating costs, which is an unbeatable combination.

The C-390 can carry more payload (26 tons) compared to other medium-sized military cargo aircraft and flies faster (470 knots) and farther, being capable of performing a wide range of missions such as transporting and dropping cargo and troops, medical evacuation, search and rescue, firefighting, and humanitarian missions, operating on temporary or unpaved runways such as packed earth, soil and gravel. In its refueling version, the aircraft has already proven its aerial refueling capacity, as well as an aircraft receiving fuel from another KC-390 using pods installed under the wings. It is the only aircraft in the world in the segment to carry out such an operation.

Since entering operation with FAB in 2019, the C-390 has proven its capacity, reliability, and performance. The current fleet of six aircraft, all in the aerial refueling version, designated KC-390, has already accumulated more than 9,500 flight hours. Recent figures show an operational availability of around 80%, with a mission completion rate above 99%, demonstrating exceptional productivity in the category. The C-390 Millennium has orders from Portugal and Hungary, both NATO member countries. The Netherlands, also a member of NATO, selected the C-390 Millennium in 2022.

Embraer has an established presence in India with around 40 aircraft, across the fields of defense, commercial aviation and executive aviation.

Embraer is the leading manufacturer of commercial jets up to 150 seats and is the main exporter of high value-added goods in Brazil. The company maintains industrial units, offices, service and parts distribution centers across the Americas, Africa, Asia, and Europe.

Op Marine gebied ... ja,  Rafale M en nog 3 onderzeeboten.

Maar ik denk wel dat de C-390 een serieuze kans heeft, de Herc valt af met zijn 20 Ton. De A-400 heeft weer een te groot tonnage met 37 ton, hoger dan de gevraagde capaciteit 18-30 ton.
Maar goed, we zullen zien.

Airbus pitches A-400M transport aircraft for IAF's Medium Transport Aircraft contest

IAF has issued an initial tender for an MTA with a carrying capacity between 18 to 30 tonnes

Aircraft manufacturer Airbus has pitched its A-400M transport aircraft in response to the Indian Air Force's (IAF) Request For Information (RFI) for a Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) with a carrying capacity of 18 to 30 tonnes. The submission deadline for the RFI issued in December 2022 was extended till March 31, and it has two other contenders, the Lockheed Martin C-130 and Embraer C-390. The MTA is a potential replacement for the much smaller AN-32s in service, and could also replace the larger IL-76.

Airbus is pitching the A-400M, which can carry a maximum payload of 37 tonnes, as a replacement for the old fleets of C-160, C-130 and IL-76 aircraft.

The C-130 has a maximum carrying capacity close to 20 tonnes, while the C-390 can carry up to 26 tonnes.

This is an opportunity to replace the AN-32s with an aircraft of higher carrying capacity, given the changed requirements and circumstances, a defence source said. In the backdrop of the 2020 stand-off in eastern Ladakh with China, the Indian Army is now looking to procure a light tank with a maximum weight of 25 tonnes. The MTA could potentially be considered to carry the light tank, officials indicated.

Embraer Eyes European Market For KC-390 And Super Tucano Sales

Portugal soon will take formal delivery of the first of five C-390 Millenium airlifters, while the Netherlands is expected by year-end to sign contracts for a planned fleet of five aircraft.

The C-390 also is being purchased by Hungary with Budapest's first aircraft in final assembly and interest growing from other European nations including Austria, the Czech Republic and Sweden.

Most of these nations want to use the C-390 to replace the elderly Lockheed Martin C-130 Hercules that dominates Europe's airlift scene.

Portugal has provided a useful test case for the C-390's introduction into Europe, with Embraer installing what it calls a NATO operations package, which includes a Link 16 datalink, military satellite navigation system, new transponders and encrypted radios. 

Similar equipment is set to be installed on Hungary's two aircraft and envisioned for the Netherlands' five. Portugal also has recently flown its first KC-390 equipped with an Elbit-developed electronic-warfare pod on the outer wing pylons.

Embaer PARIS Air showtalks with @NATO
egarding the KC-390 for the @SAC_Program
and its Heavy Airlift Wing at Papa in Hungary. With #Hungary to receive two KC-390s, alliance has previously touted idea of utilising platform to augment C-17s.

Ondanks dat we deze kisten zelf gaan aanschaffen juich ik een aantal KC-390's voor SAC enorm toe. Er is niet altijd een C-17 nodig en uitbreiden van capaciteit is altijd maar zeker nu zeer welkom. Dit zou ons toegang geven tot meer tactische transport capaciteit dan we ooit gaan kunnen doen met onze 5 eigen kisten. Bijvoorbeeld een 6 tal KC-390's naast de 3 C-17's geeft de SAC ook een behoorlijke boost.
