Jordan puts Chinese UAVs on sale

The Royal Jordanian Air Force (RJAF) has put its Chinese-made armed unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) up for sale, indicating its disappointment with their performance.

In a notice posted on its website on 3 June, the RJAF said it was looking to sell six CH-4B UAVs, a type made by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC). The RJAF acquired the type in 2016 along with AR-1 laser-guided missiles and FT-9 guided bombs. The Jordanian aircraft are capable of operating beyond line of sight as they are fitted with satellite communications equipment.

Leonardo launches a new UAV



At the Bourget show, a new light MALE UAV will officially debut in the form of a mockup, in the PREDATOR-A category to be clear, derived from the FALCO family. The aircraft, of which RID had talked about it in advance and which internally in Leonardo was known as FALCO-48, is actually a completely new machine weighing between 1.2 and 1.5 t and with a payload of 300-350 kg , and with an equally new aerodynamic formula. The machine will start the flight tests immediately after the salon closes with a first prototype already completed at the Ronchi di Legionari plant. Further details on RID.

Spain orders two more MQ-9 Reaper drones

After the United States approved the sale of four Reaper drone systems for Spain in 2015, General Atomics received an order for two MQ-9s.

The US Defense Department notified General Atomics on March 29 of an order for two MQ-9 Reaper drones bound for Spain. This announcement follows an FMS (Foreign Military Sale) passed between the two states in 2015. A first order of MQ-9 Reaper was announced by the USA  in 2017 and already seemed to be focused on two drones.

According to the DoD announcement, the delivery of these two systems should be completed in March 2020. For its part, the Spanish Ejercito del Aire seemed to announce that three drone systems would be received in the course of 2019.

Thus, already last January, Spain announced to prepare the arrival of the first Predator, to be delivered during the second semester. These drones will be used to conduct ISR (Intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance) missions and will not carry weapons.

In addition to the MQ-9 Reaper, Spain is also involved in the European program  to develop a male drone in cooperation. The entry into service of the latter is expected by 2025. It will also be dedicated to observation and surveillance missions and will be able to carry weapons.

Een nieuwe UCAV die aangestuurd kan worden door fighters, topsnelheid mach 0.9 (1111 km/h), 1500 miles (2400 km) combat range en 500 lbs payload (2x GBU-39 SDB).
De UCAV moet runway independent kunnen opereren, vanaf Forward Operating Bases of zelfs vanaf onverharde runways.

De richtprijs is 2 miljoen dollar per stuk bij massa productie. Het Unmanned wing men concept word verder uitgewerkt.

Het fundamentele probleem met types zoals de F-22A Raptor en de F-35 familie is dat ze zo duur zijn, dat men er simpelweg niet voldoende van kan aanschaffen.
Tenzij je het geen probleem vindt om de schatkist 'kapot te slaan' en eens flink te plunderen.
Daarnaast hebben Low Observable (LO) / stealth kisten ook nog eens een kleinere nuttige lading en / of bereik dan conventionele niet-LO / steelse kisten.

Dus in optie 3, nul 4,8 generatie F-35C's !  Dus de US Navy is dan van dat ongewilde weeskind af.
De bespaarde muntjes worden gestoken in verder ontwikkeling van de X-47B UCAV en het (*) K-UCAV, een onbemand tankvliegtuig.
Zodat de F-18E/F's geen tanker sorties hoeven te vliegen, want in 33 - 40 % van alle F-18E/F sorties wordt er alleen maar peut (af)getapt.
Bovenstaande optie 1 en 2 vallen binnen de US Navy begroting, bij optie 3 moet men deze iets verhogen.
Maar optie 3 werkt het snelst en meest doeltreffend en biedt een high / low mix tussen respectievelijk (K)-UCAV's en Super Hornets.

Het is weer bijna een boek Poleme  Weer een mooi verhaal om te lezen, de (K)-UCAV heeft ondertussen een naam ''MQ-25 Stingray'' van Boeing. Ze mogen er 4 bouwen van de USN voor oplevering rond 2024 en een mogelijke verdere order van totaal 72 stuks. Daarnaast steken ze een deel van het geld ook in het F/A-XX programma voor de vervanging van de F-18's eind jaren '20 wat alweer een 6th gen fighter word en daarmee de 5th gen fighters slechts een kleine familie word.
