Sikorsky awarded $2.7B contract for 35 CH-53K King Stallions, some bound for Israel  (27 stuks USN, 8 stuks Israël )

In total, the Marine Corps plans to purchase up to 200 CH-53Ks as part of the program of record.

The Navy on Thursday awarded Lockheed Martin-owned Sikorsky a contract worth $2.7 billion to deliver 35 CH-53K heavy-lift helicopters, including eight of which that are bound for Israel through foreign military sales, according to announcements from company and the Pentagon.

Excluding the eight marked for FMS, the other 27 helicopters make up the seventh and eighth lots of CH-53K King Stallions, the successor program to the Marines' CH-53E Super Stallion aircraft. The newer helicopters boast three times the carrying power as their predecessors, the Marines and Sikorsky have previously said.

The aircraft are scheduled to begin delivery in 2026, according to the company. In total the Marine Corps plans to purchase up to 200 CH-53Ks as part of the program of record. (While the CH-53Ks are used by the Marine Corps, the Navy's Naval Air Systems Command is responsible for drawing up contracts and ultimately purchasing aircraft used by both services.)

Lockheed announces first production for Israeli CH-53K helicopters

The first choppers are expected by 2025, but the addition of Israeli high-tech systems could delay delivery, sources said.

Lockheed Martin has officially announced it will produce a dozen CH-53K heavy-lift helicopters for Israel, choppers that sources here say will be augmented with high-tech Israeli-made systems.

The announcement, made Tuesday, comes after the Israeli government approved the deal in January for 12 helicopters for some $2.4 billion, though the Tuesday's announcement only concerns the first four helos.

Lockheed said the choppers, made by subsidiary Sikorsky, will replace the Israeli Air Force fleet of CH-53D Yasur helicopters "which have been in Israel's inventory for over 50 years."

"The all-new CH-53K delivers modern state-of-the-art capabilities that result in improved survivability, safety, and reduced aircrew workload over its predecessor, making it the perfect fit for the demanding IAF mission," Lockheed said in its announcement.

The initial delivery of the base helicopters is expected for 2025, but Israeli sources told Breaking Defense Israel plans to outfit the helos with their own systems, which could delay delivery by a year or so. Most of those systems are classified, but sources said one will be a version of the Elbit MUSIC system designed to protect against man-portable ground-to-air missiles.

Lockheed's announcement comes as the Israeli Defense Forces also look to buy new combat helicopters and upgrade those in their current fleet, sources said, including potentially purchasing 20 new Apache E helicopters and upgrading another 20 Apache D helicopters.

US Marine squadron officially transitions to CH-53K King Stallion

Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron (HMH) 461 held a re-designation ceremony at Marine Corps Air Station New River, North Carolina, Jan 24. The ceremony marked HMH-461's transition from a CH-53E Super Stallion to the Marine Corps' first fleet CH-53K King Stallion squadron.

Maj. Gen. Michael Cederholm, commanding general of 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, described the significance of HMH-461's transition to a CH-53K squadron.

"Today our Marine Corps got a little stronger. It is only appropriate that 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, and in particular Marine Corps Air Station New River, would be the first to receive the newest land and sea-based heavy helicopter because this is the home of the Marine Corps' assault support. Placing the CH-53K King Stallion into the hands of our warfighters will ensure we capitalize on the unique qualities and characteristics of the 53K, and will allow 2nd MAW to continue to provide the best aviation support to the Marine Air-Ground Task Force right now, and well into our future.

"Quite simply, 2nd MAW will be able to move more troops and equipment, at higher altitudes, faster speeds, and in more austere environments than ever before. We continue to become a more modernized and lethal force so, when the time comes, we will deliver on II Marine Expeditionary Force's motto: 'Come to Fight - Come to Win.' I am so proud of the Marines and Sailors of 2nd MAW, and find it appropriate that they are a part of this moment in Marine Corps aviation history."

The CH-53K will allow the quick massing of combat power, agile maneuver, resilient logistics and predictive maintenance, and be used in the Marine Corps' execution of expeditionary advanced based operations, a key component of the Commandant of the Marine Corps' force design.

The squadron received its first CH-53K King Stallion, and the ceremony signified the beginning of the Marine Corps' modernization from the CH-53E Super Stallion to the CH-53K King Stallion in support of the expeditionary warfare vision for future-force employment. The CH-53K is an optimized vertical, heavy-lift, sea-based, long-range solution for the Marine Corps and will provide three times the lift capability of its predecessor

Navyrecognition RAF CH47 HMS Queen Elizabeth

Future vertical lift. Bell/Boeing V-280 Velor en SB-1 Defiant. In Europa is men via EU Cleansky Fast Rotor Craft ook bezig met nieuwe technologie. Airbus Racer en Leonardo NGCTR. Wacht dit even af aub.

Rotor opvouw mechanisme; vliegdek grijp mechanisme; verbetering corrosie bestendigheid?
