The hull of AbramsX is most likely modified from Dieselized Abrams (aka HCVTB) hull built by General Dynamics in 2013. Dieselized Abrams can be distinguished from standard Abrams by different tail light housing, new drive sprocket and Diehl lightweight track (570P3).

General Dynamics unveils its new US AbramsX tank MBT technology demonstrator

According to information published on the Twitter account of General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) on October 8, 2022, GDLS presents the future generation of American-made Main Battle Tank (MBT) with its AbramsX technology demonstrator.



The General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) AbramsX technology demonstrator will be unveiled during the AUSA 2022, Association of United States Army defense exhibition that will take place in Washington D.C. from 10 to 12 October 2022. With the AbramsX, GDLS demonstrated its ability to develop a new generation of Main Battle Tank offering more firepower, protection and mobility able to counter all the new threats of the modern battlefield.

As the next generation of Main Battle Tank, the AbramsX technology demonstrator features reduced weight for improved mobility and transportability, delivering the same tactical range as the M1A2 Abrams with 50% less fuel consumption.

The AbramsX's hybrid power pack supports the U.S. Army's climate and electrification strategies, enhances silent watch capability and even allows for some silent mobility. With a reduced crew size and AI-enabled lethality, survivability, mobility, manned/unmanned teaming (MUM-T) and autonomous capabilities, AbramsX can be a key node in lethal battlefield networks and serve as a bridge from Abrams SEPv3 and SEPv4 to future tank.

The AbramsX is completely based on a new design compared to the M1A2 Abrams tank family. In terms of protection, the AbramsX is fitted with a new armor package mounted on the hull and the turret. The tank also integrates an APS (Active Protection System) able to intercept anti-tank guided missiles and other current projectiles by launching a small warhead and initiating it at a safe distance from the protected platform, at a precisely calculated moment, and defeating or destructing the threat through a shock-wave effect.

The firepower of the AbramsX is also strengthened using a new generation of 120mm main gun able to fire new ammunition MRM (Mid-Range Munitions), AMP (Advanced Multi-Purpose), and AKE (Advanced Kinetic Energy). A coaxial machine gun is mounted on the right of the main armament and a remotely operated weapon station is mounted on the turret roof which is armed with one 30mm automatic cannon and one machine gun.

Voor wie geïnteresseerd is in de productie van Leopard tanks (2A7) geeft dit twitter draadje wat inhoudelijke informatie. Geloof niet dat er op korte termijn veel (meer) wordt geproduceerd aan Leo2A7's in Europa. K2 en M1A2 SEP3 worden dikke concurrenten op de Europese markt. Aankijken wat het besluit in Noorwegen wordt binnenkort.

Enige productielijn in Europa die actief is op dit moment, is in Griekenland.

The only active production line for new tank hulls in Europe is at the METKA plant in Volos ,Greece, where the Leo 2 hulls are welded.
It is probably the only place in the whole of NATO where new hulls are welded. Leclerc line closed in 2010 and Abrams are rebuilt from old hulls

De Noorse firma Nammo, gespecialiseerd in de productie van munitie, heeft de sluiting aangekondigd van een overeenkomst voor de ontwikkeling van nieuwe 120 mm-munitie bedoeld voor de Zuid-Koreaanse K2-tank. Hybride aandrijvingen zullen zeker de toekomst zijn. All-electric zal het niet worden.
Bij alle voertuigen denk ik, maar vooral de front voertuigen, tanks, ifv, apc, scout, zullen veel voordeel kunnen halen om over te schakelen naar elektrisch rijden, opereren. Stille modus, geen of minder geluid, maar ook de warmte afgifte/beeld van je voertuig is klein.

Wanneer komt er een nieuwe CDS? Dat is dan de beste kans op het bestellen van horizontale vuurkracht.

Zo te zien is die functie voor 4 a 5 jaar, en de huidige CDS zit pas sinds 2021 dus dat gaat nog wel even duren.

De stroming draaide in mijn beleving negatief door de opmerkingen van de huidige CDS en het misbruik of verkeert gebruik van de MBT's door de Russen. Maar nu is daar weer een koers wijziging nu de Oekraïne juist weer laat zien hoe je succesvol opereert met MBT's op het gevechtsveld en de NAVO wederom hard aandringt op horizontale vuurkracht voor NLD landeenheden  En daar mag je geen tanks van Deu voor tellen. Nu gaat het grootste deel van het CLAS budget naar mun voorraden vastgoed allemaal ook goed voor behoud en aanwas personeel.  13 horizontale vuurkracht en daarna (nieuwe CDS) en subs besteld misschien MBT's .

Na Prinsjesdag is mijn overtuiging eigenlijk alleen maar sterker geworden: NL wíl geen MBT's. Dat geklooi met de mof is alleen maar voor de bühne...

Dat denk ik ook inderdaad.
