Lithuania is looking to buy 12 Panzerhaubitze 2000 (PzH 2000) 155 mm self-propelled artillery (SPA) systems from Germany, it was announced on 15 April.

The news emerged during a visit by Lithuanian Defence Minister Juozas Olekas to his German counterpart Ursula von der Leyen.

Olekas said he had asked "about the possibility of buying German PzH 2000 self-propelled artillery and received a positive response". The Lithuanian minister added: "This will allow us to have experts in May launch specific negotiations, which, hopefully, will in the near future [see us] acquire the necessary capacity," according to a statement published by the Lithuanian Ministry of Defence (MoD)

The Lithuanian MoD statement additionally noted that the country is also interested in the possibility of buying German infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs).

Although the Lithuanian MoD did not specify how many PzH 2000s or which IFV it was interested in buying, the German MoD clarified that the programme was for 12 SPA, and for ARTEC Boxer 8x8 IFV. Any Boxer purchase would include the Organisation for Joint Armament Co-operation (OCCAR), which oversees the programme for Germany and the Netherlands.
