Over 120 Missiles for Russian S-400 Systems Delivered to Turkey, Says Source

MOSCOW --- More than 120 surface-to-air guided missiles have been supplied by Russia to Turkey along with a regiment set of S-400 air defense missile systems, a military diplomatic source told TASS on Monday.

"Turkey has received two S-400 battalions, more than 120 surface-to-air missiles, as well as auxiliary equipment, spare parts and tools," the source said, adding that technology transfer, even partial, was not envisaged by the contract.

According to the source, the delivery and acceptance act was signed by the Turkish and Russian sides in Ankara in early December, giving the start to a 20-month warranty maintenance period.

Rosoboronexport, Russia's state-run arms exporter, refrained from commenting this information.

Turkey's National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said on January 15 that Turkish military continued works to put the Russia S-400 missile systems into operation, promising to finish the process in April or May.

Russia said in September 2017 that it had signed a $2.5 bln contract for supplies of its S-400 missile systems with Turkey. The first batch under the contract was delivered to Ankara by air transport in July 2019.

Russia's S-400 Triumf (NATO reporting name: SA-21 Growler) is the most advanced long-range air defense missile system that went into service in Russia in 2007. It is designed to destroy aircraft, cruise and ballistic missiles, including medium-range missiles, and can also be used against ground-based targets. The S-400 can engage targets at a distance of 400 km and at an altitude of up to 35 km.

Spanje zit op dit moment niet in het SAMP/T programma.

Er is geen fluit te doen, Spanje heeft al vrijwel geen betekenis in de NAVO. Hiermee doen ze nog iets en dragen zichtbaar bij. Low risk, low cost, heerlijk.

Defensieminister VS wil uitleg dreigement Erdogan

WASHINGTON
De Amerikaanse minister van Defensie Mark Esper wil uitleg van de Turken over dreigementen om twee strategische bases te sluiten die de Amerikanen in Turkije gebruiken.

De Turkse president Recep Tayyip Erdogan dreigde afgelopen zondag de basis in Incirlik en die in Kurecik te sluiten. De twee militaire bases liggen in het zuidwesten van Turkije, dicht bij de grens met Syrië. De Amerikaanse luchtmacht gebruikt de basis in Incirlik. Op de andere basis staat een radarstation van de NAVO.

Esper zei dat hij met zijn Turkse collega, defensieminister Hulusi Akar, moet spreken om "precies te begrijpen wat Erdogan bedoelde en hoe serieus hij is". De Amerikaanse minister zei dat hij teleurgesteld is in de richting die Turkije opgaat, weg van de NAVO en meer in de invloedssfeer van Rusland.

Spain Extends Patriot Deployment in Turkey   ...  ... ?

Spain has decided on the extension of Patriot air defense missiles deployed in Turkey's southern Adana province for the next six months because Madrid attaches importance to its NATO ally's security concerns, Spanish Ambassador Juan Gonzalez Barba has told the Hürriyet Daily News.

He recalled that Madrid decided to continue supporting the security of its NATO ally, although Spain joined the European consensus in restricting arms export license over Turkey's military operation in northern Syria because his country disconnects these two issues.

"The long-term perspective is that whatever divergences might be regarding the operation [Peace Spring] the fact that Turkey's security, as a NATO partner, is essential and has been the main consideration," he said.

Spain's Patriot air defense missiles were deployed in Adana in 2015, replacing the Netherlands'. The missiles were deployed as part of Turkey's request for NATO assistance for possible attacks from Syria to Turkey.
