Italië en Noorwegen zijn al ingedeeld bij 62nd FS en Denemarken samen met Nederland zijn ingedeeld bij 308th FS. Daarnaast worden bij deze squadrons ook Amerikaans personeel opgeleid. Blijkbaar is drie nationaliteiten per squadron om verschillende redenen het maximum.

Ook wel logisch natuurlijk, amerikanen weten hierin ook goed wat ze doen. Levert ook niet per definitie synergie op als je NL en BE samen in dat squadron zet.

Ik snap niet dat ze niet aanhaken bij een bestaand opleiding squadron. Bij de NL club in de VS bijvoorbeeld. We werken al intensief samen dus dit vindt ik nogal capitaalvernietiging.

Al met al denk ik dat de F-35 Belgische leger heel veel pijn gaat doen en al het budget opeet..terwijl ze al bezig zijn met de opvolger...wat al niemand begrijpt.

Ze hebben het hele munitie pakket nog niet aangeschaft waarmee je met de F-35 kan wat hij goed doet. En dat in afdoende aantallen gaat al een half miljard kosten.

Misschien zijn ze er al achter dat het niet te betalen is met dit budget en willen ze voorsorteren op de toekomst. Maar het gaat niet goed met het Belgische leger. Het loopt enorm achter, ze gebruiken ( landmacht ) de oudste radio's binnen de gehele NAVO, er is geen publieke actieve breed gedragen discussie over investeren in veiligheid en de Belgische politiek ziet er niet naar uit de komende jaren significante investeringen te doen.

F-35: nieuw vliegtuig, nieuwe eenheid

De Belgian F-35 Conversion Unit vestigde zich eind juli op zijn nieuwe uitvalsbasis, Luke Air Force Base. Verslag van de eenheid die verantwoordelijk is voor de opleiding van de nieuwe generatie piloten en het technisch personeel dat nodig is om de F-35A te doen vliegen.

Na een periode van intense voorbereidingen in België vertrokken de eerste leden van de BEL F-35 Conversion Unit, kortweg BEL F-35 CU, eind juli naar Phoenix, Arizona, in de Verenigde Staten. Een metropool midden in de woestijn met piektemperaturen boven de 45 °C.

Geïntegreerd in het Amerikaanse 312 Fighter Squadron

"De nieuwe Belgische eenheid is geïntegreerd in het Amerikaanse 312 Fighter Squadron", legt luitenant Evelyn Gravez uit. "Onder leiding van de Amerikaanse Luitenant-kolonel Jason 'Chill' Wall, bijgestaan door de Belgische Majoor Vlieger Pierre-Yves 'SO6' Libert, is samengesteld uit Amerikaanse en Belgische militairen en nam zijn intrek in tijdelijke faciliteiten" zegt Luitenant Evelyn Gravez.

De communicatieverantwoordelijke van het Belgische detachement vervolgt: "Bij een nieuwe eenheid komen natuurlijk ook enkele moeilijkheden naar boven, maar door goede coördinatie met zowel Belgische Defensie als USAF worden deze langzaam maar zeker opgelost. In 2025 zal de BEL F-35 CU zijn intrek nemen in het nieuwe gebouw, waar we niet alleen gerenoveerde lokalen, maar ook een nieuwe Belgische Heritage Room mogen verwachten. Een stukje België in de USA."

Momenteel is het detachement volop aan de slag om de aankomst van de eerste Belgische F-35A toestellen en stagiairs voor te bereiden. In totaal zullen er de komende jaren 48 piloten, 14 vluchtsimulatorinstructeurs en 120 technici passeren voor hun opleiding op, of conversie naar de ultramoderne F-35A.

"De laatste maatregelen worden getroffen om zowel vliegtuigen als stagiairs vanaf februari 2024 te faciliteren, in samenwerking met de verschillende diensten van Luke Air Force Base en het team van Eglin Air Force Base, besluit de luitenant tevreden. De impressionante flight line van Luke Air Force Base, met meer dan 110 F-35's, spreekt tot de verbeelding en we kunnen niet wachten om de Belgische F-35A daartussen te zien. We zijn trots om deel uit te maken van dit omvangrijk transformatieprogramma in de geschiedenis van onze Belgische Luchtcomponent."

Belgium Joins European Next-Generation Fighter Program

Belgium has joined one of Europe's two next-generation air combat programs, while Sweden has stepped away from the other, rival effort.

Belgium has confirmed that it will join the pan-European Future Combat Air System (FCAS) next-generation air combat program, alongside France, Germany, and Spain. The announcement comes amid a period of flux in Europe's sixth-generation air combat efforts, with Sweden having stated earlier this month that it's no longer involved in Tempest, the project to develop the stealth fighter at the center of the rival British/Italian/Japanese Global Combat Air Program (GCAP).

Belgium to join Europe's FCAS next-gen fighter program in June 2025

Once Brussels joins the program, details about the role it will play at both a funding and an industrial level are expected to be shared.

A senior Belgian official revealed that by June 2025 her nation will become the fourth partner nation behind Germany, France and Spain to join the Future Combat Air System (FCAS)/SCAF sixth generation fighter program.

Ludivine Dedonder, Belgium's defense minister, announced the expected timeline in a LinkedIn post last week, which comes after the country first committed to the project at the Paris Air Show in June.

Brussels will also sign a FCAS observer status membership agreement next month, according to Dedonder, which she referred to as a "crucial step towards global security and innovation."

"The development of a next-generation air combat capability is a unique opportunity for Europe. In doing so, Belgium is committed to peace, stability and innovation in defence, building together a secure and prosperous future for our nation and our partners," she said.

Once Brussels joins the program as a full partner, details about the role it will play at both a funding and an industrial level are expected to be shared. France's Dassault, Germany's Airbus and Spain's Indra currently make up a trio of FCAS industry leads, committed to development of a Next Generation Fighter (NGF), Remote Carriers or adjunct aircraft and a combat cloud, designed as a multi-domain capable, data rich network, allowing cross platform information sharing.

Belgium's FCAS entry has not been without controversy. A month before Brussels decided to join the effort, Dassault CEO Eric Trappier opposed talk about such a move because of Brussels's F-35 acquisition, which went against a rival pitch by the manufacturer to replace F-16 jets with Rafale aircraft. Trappier went so far as to say that he would "fight" against any future decision that included giving Belgian companies jobs on the FCAS program, according to the Brussels Times website.

For the moment, France, Germany and Spain are assessing four NGF designs before selecting a final one in the first quarter of 2025.

for the provision of 15 + 5 optional H145M Helicopters, as well as a provision of respective Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) and In-Service Support (ISS).

NSPA believes this requirement can only be fulfilled on a sole source basis.

The Customer's requirement is to reach out an existing capability that could become operational seamlessly and with low risks in term of development process (e.g. certification & qualification), with the following high-level requirements:
- helicopter be already developed, certified and in service with other armed forces;
- possibility to confirm from an objective point of view the operational performance of the system;
- possibility to allow international cooperation with other armed forces (interoperability with other nations); and
- meet the timelines defined by the Customer in his Strategic Defence Framework, (i.e. delivery of capability by the end of 2027).
As part of the national selection process, the Customer invited all known companies to participate in a national military prospection to evaluate specific requirements against the capabilities of available Light Utility Helicopters known in the market. The result of the market assessment identified the Airbus H145M as the only aircraft capable of meeting the requirements outlined by the Customer and the only system being already available to comply with the schedule constraints defined in the Strategic Defence Framework.

Upon the analysis of the requirements established to perform the national selection process, NSPA has determined that the conclusions of the process represent an objective evaluation of the potential candidates available in the market. NSPA's assessment takes into consideration compliance with the following key aspects:
- system readiness: already developed helicopter with a completed certification process;
- operational performance records: operation performance data available from real life experience;
- potential interoperability with other Nations: aircraft already in service by other users (Operational Capability already declared); and
- compatibility with the strategic roadmap: capability established no later than December 2027.

Is dit het prijsverschil tussen een af fabriek F-35A Block 4 en een F-35A Block 3F of is het t.o.v. een F-35A Block 3F met een Block 4 retrofit?

Geen idee. Dit is de inflatie die door de oorlog op militair goed is gegooid. De wereld staat in de fik, prijzen gaan omhoog.

Daar moet dan ook geld voor zijn en een F-35 zal zo'n 20 tot 30% duurder zijn als je ze nu koopt.
