Canada, Netherlands hires DRS for missiles

PARSIPPANY, NJ, United States (UPI) -- The Canadian and Dutch navies have jointly hired New Jersey`s DRS Technologies Inc. to supply them with missile trackers.

Under terms of the $142 million contract, DRS will make Sirius Long-Range Infrared Search and Track Systems for both navies, DRS said Friday.

The systems are designed to boost ships` self-defense capabilities by automatically detecting and tracking anti-ship missiles and aircraft.

Deliveries are expected to begin in March 2008 and continue through August 2011.
