TEHRAN — Iran kicked off mass production of two high-speed missile-launching assault boats on Monday, warning its enemies not to "play with fire" as it boosts security along its coastline.

The inauguration of the production lines for the Seraj and Zolfaqar speedboats comes a day after President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad unveiled Iran's home-built bomber drone, which he said would deliver "death" to Iran's enemies.

State news agency IRNA reported that Seraj (Lamp) and Zolfaqar (named after Shiite Imam Ali's sword) speedboats would be manufactured at the marine industries complex of the ministry of defence.

Defence Minister Ahmad Vahidi opened the assembly lines, saying the vessels would help strengthen Iran's defence forces, IRNA said.

"Today, the Islamic Republic of Iran is relying on a great defence industry and the powerful forces of Sepah (Revolutionary Guards) and the army, with their utmost strength, can provide security to the Persian Gulf, the Sea of Oman and Strait of Hormuz," Vahidi said.

He issued a stern warning to Iran's foes.

"The enemy must be careful of its adventurous behaviour and not play with fire because the Islamic Republic of Iran's response would be unpredictable," IRNA quoted him as saying.

"If enemies attack Iran, the Islamic Republic of Iran's reaction will not be restricted to one area. The truth of our defence doctrine is that we will not attack any country and that we extend our hand to all legitimate countries."

Iran's arch-foes, the United States and Israel, have not ruled out taking military action over Tehran's controversial nuclear programme.

Iran has in the past threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz, choking off some 40 percent of tanker-shipped oil worldwide, in the event of a military attack.

IRNA said Zolfaqar was a new generation missile-launching vessel which can be used for patrol as well as for attack operations.

"It is designed for quick assaults on ships and is equipped with two missile launchers, two machine guns and a computer system to control the missiles," the report said.

Fars news agency cited Vahidi as saying that Zolfaqar was to be equipped with the Nasr 1 (Victory) marine cruise missile "which has high destructive power."

Iran has previously said that the Nasr missile can destroy targets weighing up to 3,000 tonnes.

IRNA said Seraj, designed for a tropical climate, was also a swift assault vessel for use in the Caspian sea, the Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, adding that it can fire rockets and also be used in stormy seas.

"Seraj is a fast moving assault rocket launcher using sophisticated and modern technology," Vahidi was cited as saying by IRNA.

The launch of the production lines comes as Iran marks its annual "government week", a period when it traditionally shows off its latest technological achievements.

The naval commander of Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards, Ali Fadavi, was quoted by IRNA as saying that the missile-launching boats are the world's fastest.

"The Iranian-made missile-launching boats rank first in the world when it comes to their velocity," Fadavi said.

Ahmadinejad on Sunday unveiled a bomber drone with a range of up to 1,000 kilometres (620 miles), which he dubbed the "ambassador of death."

State media said the drone, Karar (Assailant), can carry four stealth cruise missiles, two bombs of 250 pounds (115 kilos) each or a precision missile of 500 pounds (230 kilos).

Tehran kicked off its week of military claims on Friday when it fired a surface-to-surface missile, named Qiam (Rising), with some more announcements expected over the next few days, likes of test firing a third generation Fateh (Conqueror) 110 missile.

Iran recently took delivery of four domestically built Ghadir mini-submarines, a "stealth" vessel designed to operate in shallow waters such as the Gulf.

Op de beelden zie ik een granaat onder het toestel vlak voor en volgens mij ook tijdens de lancering.

Yep, dat is correct. Maar zoals je zelf reeds schreef, roept het de nodige vraagtekens op.

Ik heb daar mijn twijfels over. De vlucht is zonder wapens, en getuigt niet van een optimale lanceerban.

Het ziet er inderdaad allemaal niet zo optimaal uit nog...maar ja...een 107mm granaat afgevuurd vanaf een paar zandzakken kan ook dood en verderf saaien als hij in een militair kampement landt en ontploft....Al wordt hier natuurlijk een stevige propaganda-saus gebruikt...de uit deze filmpjes bekende herhaling na herhaling van een lancering oid is ook weer aanwezig.

Ik ben geen wapendeskundige (verre van dat), dus vraag ik me af wat het nut is van het hangen van een bom onder zo'n raket (want een vliegtuig kan ik het niet vinden). Het lijkt me dat dit apparaat gemaakt is voor eenrichtingsverkeer en dat je dan de handel beter kan integreren, toch?

Met een aantal bommen of raketten eronder kun je zo meerdere doelen tegelijk aanvallen of meer gespreid. Als men het toestel zelf dan ook van een explosieve lading voorziet kan die ook nog worden ingezet na het overbrengen van de rest. Want ik zie ook niet veel mogelijkheden om ermee te landen. Het ding is echter niet zo groot, waarschijnlijk goedkoop in massa te maken...en het kost geen Iraanse piloten en het relatief beperkt aantal gevechtsvliegtuigen die het moeilijk zouden hebben tegen de veel modernere luchtverdediging van de landen die Iran als dreiging ziet. Dit wapen kan, laagvliegend, nog wel eens door de mazen van het web glippen.

M'n wapenstok lijkt nog geavanceerder dan die oranje ambassadeur. Dat ze in Iran eerst maar eens aan HD-TV of zo iets gaan werken, ben alleen maar pixels aan het tellen op dat beeld van de staatstelevisie.

't ziet er een beetje uit als een gemodificeerde V1. Die zou best wel eens een heel eind kunnen komen.

Een werkende kernreactor hebben ze ook al, dus al hebben ze misschien nog geen nucleare bom, hebben ze binnen kort wel al genoeg nuclear afval om een smerige bom te kunnen maken...

Tijd dat we met z'n allen eens gaan ingrijpen om meneer Achmadinnedinges tot de orde te roepen. Iran heeft weer een flinke stap omhoog gezet in de opbouwende geweldspiraal van Iran tegen de rest van de wereld...

Iran presenteert onbemande bommenwerper

De Iraanse president Ahmadinejad heeft een nieuwe, onbemande bommenwerper gepresenteerd. Het vliegtuig van vier meter lang kan volgens Iran grote afstanden overbruggen en heeft de naam Karrar, Farsi voor aanvaller, meegekregen.

Details over wat het vliegtuigje precies kan, zijn niet bekendgemaakt. Wel gaf de president er een kleurrijke beschrijving ervan: "Hoewel dit straalvliegtuig een ambassadeur des doods is voor de vijanden van de menselijkheid, draagt het een boodschap uit van vrede en vriendschap."

Ahmadinejad onthulde het vliegtuig zelf tijdens een ceremonie die live op tv werd uitgezonden. Hij zei te hopen dat het nieuwe wapentuig afschrikwekkend zou werken: "De vijand zal verlamd in zijn basis blijven."

Volgens de president is het vliegtuig gemaakt voor de verdediging van Iran. "Iran wil niet aanvallen, we zullen nooit besluiten ergens aan te vallen."

De onthulling komt een dag nadat Iran begon met de opstart van een nieuwe kernreactor in het land. Israël noemt het opstarten van een kernreactor "volkomen onaanvaardbaar". Wat Israël betreft moet de internationale gemeenschap veel meer doen om elke vorm van uraniumverrijking in Iran tegen te houden.

Israël vreest dat de reactor kan worden misbruikt voor de ontwikkeling van een kernwapen. Deskundigen denken dat die kans klein is; de brandstofstaven gaan na gebruik naar Rusland en het project staat onder toezicht van het Internationaal Atoomenergieagentschap IAEA. De VS legt zich dan ook neer bij het project.

De Bushehr-reactor in Iran moet over een paar maanden stroom leveren.

Ahmadinejad inaugurates Iran's first unmanned bomber aircraft

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Sunday inaugurated the country's first domestically-built, long-range, unmanned bomber aircraft, calling it an "ambassador of death" to Iran's enemies.

Speaking to a group of officials Ahmadinejad said, "The jet, as well as being an ambassador of death for the enemies of humanity, has a main message of peace and friendship."

The goal of the aircraft is to "keep the enemy paralyzed in its bases," he said, adding that the jet is for deterrence and defensive purposes.

The president championed the country's military self-sufficiency program, and said it will continue "until the enemies of humanity lose hope of ever attacking the Iranian nation."

The 4-meter-long unmanned plane, dubbed the Karrar or striker in Farsi, was inaugurated on the national day for the country's defense industry in a ceremony aired live on state TV.

No details were provided on the craft's capabilities.

Iran has been producing its own light, unmanned surveillance aircraft since the late 1980s.

The ceremony came a day after Iran began to fuel its first nuclear power reactor, with the help of Russia, amid international concerns over the possibility of a military dimension to its nuclear program.

Iran insists it is only interested in generating electricity.

Referring to Israel's occasional threats against Iran's nuclear facilities, Ahmadinejad called any attack unlikely, but he said if Israel did, the reaction would be overwhelming.

"The scope of Iran's reaction will include the entire the earth," said Ahmadinejad. "We also tell you — the West — that all options are on the table."

Ahmadinejad appeared to be consciously echoing the terminology used by the U.S. and Israel in their statements not ruling out a military option against Iran's nuclear facilities.

On Friday, Iran also test-fired a new liquid fuel surface-to-surface missile, the Qiam-1, with advanced guidance systems.

Since 1992, Iran has also produced its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles, torpedoes and a fighter plane.

It frequently makes announcements about new advances in military technology that cannot be independently verified.

Iran launched an arms development program during its 1980-88 war with Iraq to compensate for a U.S. weapons embargo.
